You mean there are coaches in the NHL who can coach offensive talent that's brought to his team?

I've come to believe that what Kovalev does in any game is entirely independent of any coaching at all.

The guy has always had all world talent, but he shows it remarkable less than the time he spends out of position.

I'm watching TradeCentre on TSN. When did Clarke MacArthur become a superstar? He's a decent player on a horrible team and therefore it makes him a superstar? Really? Don't get me wrong, I like MacArthur, but seriously, is he the next coming of Gretzky? That's how they cover him on TSN. Ridiculous. This must have been what it was like for Dominic Moore, too. Mediocre player putting up points on a lousy team, therefore must be a great player. Wow, they are starved for talent in Toronto.

Could you imagine the worst case scenario for the NHL and the Pens? Crosby has to end his career because after a concussion he can no longer play the game. That would be insane and a huge blow to the sport.

And just in the short term, they've potentially lost Crosby and Malkin for the season this year. Has any team ever lost two players of that caliber during the season?

Trade Centre loaded for you? This is driving me crazy.

I'm in Canada on business, so I'm actually watching the TSN channel. I have a couple of conference calls before I have to meet with a customer, so I'm watching TSN right now. Wow, it's amazing how they talk about MacArthur.

Mac is a good player that is getting first line minutes.

I don't think he has much more potential than what you are seeing this season.

The conundrum is how much to pay him.

It's also being shown on NHL network. So I'm watching on the set top box hooked to my computer.

I'd agree. And the TSN guys were all saying that Mac should re-sign in TO because he probably won't get used the same way anywhere else. Talk about a backhanded complement (for both the Loafs and Mac).

The funny thing is, he's never been a great backchecker, but he's still one of the better backchecking Leafs. Which is also a backhanded compliment. :D

the impression here on this board is that Ruff ruined him after that first game

I believe Bernier got injured in like his 2nd game with the Sabres (tweaked a groin perhaps?)

No claims in on Conklin? That seems surprising to me. Unless he's hurt or they are planning on exposing him to re-entry waivers where teams can get a shot at half the cost.

Avoiding the Conklin Curse. NYR might be interested, Marty Biron broke his collarbone today in practice.

It's 3.2, 4, 4, 4. 3.8 cap hit.

Interesting, I know Chicago was in cap trouble in the offseason, but Niemi was arby'd 2.75 million and they turned it down.

They really backed themselves into a corner with that cap situation. Personally, I think they already had a better and cheaper goalie in Crawford, so walking away from Niemi was pretty easy. They would have won it with him last year too, they just went with the older guy. I really wonder why they didn't give Crawford his shot right off the bat this year though.

Ouch - how did that happen?

Stupid. In some fairness it was a split second response to his own guy getting hit from behind.....but toss the gloves and beat him senseless....don't be a dip####

On a side note...Clutterbuck is an awesome name. If I ever get a hound dog, I'm gonna name him Clutterbuck.

Very interesting read.

Probert suffered from degenerative brain disease, scientists find

Six months before he died of a heart attack at age 45, former National Hockey League enforcer Bob Probert was flipping television channels when he stumbled upon a documentary about scientists analyzing the brains of dead professional football players.

Their findings so intrigued the former NHL tough guy that, when the researchers lamented how few hockey players had volunteered to help them understand the aftermath of multiple hits to the head, he vowed to do his part.

The first hit seemed worse than the second. I think Clutterbuck was selling it a little bit.

On a hockey note, Kovi with a goal and assist to lift the hottest team in hockey to another win.
