I'm disappointed, to say the least. Forsberg has always been my favorite player (except when he wore Halloween orange and black) but I am glad that he recognized that he is done and didn't drag it out.

It is too bad. He did try a couple of comebacks, but he's hardly Brett Favre. He could have been the greatest of his years were it not for some injuries.

Forsberg was a beast and I believe pound for pound the best player in the game for a time. Had he not gotten injured he would have been up there with the greatest ever. So much skill, nasty when he wanted to be, physical, good in all areas of the game. Hate to see any player's career cut short cuz of injuries.

Thank you. I've heard other people try to draw a comparison between Forsberg and Fav-rah and the situations couldn't be more dissimilar. Forsberg never made any secret about wanting to play, it was just whether his foot would hold up. You see other guys in other sports - Yao Ming and Ilgauskus in Cleveland - who have had recurring foot problems and it kills their careers.

That was what I liked the most. He could do it all - score, set up his linemates, play nasty, play the PK, PP, and when his foot was healthy he was a hell of a skater and very fast.

Forsberg when healthy was a force of nature.

Hope he enjoys retirement.

Yeah, I don't remember him ever actually retiring until just this week. It's crazy to think that a foot injury can derail a career so easily, but then again, it is kind of an important body part for a hockey player.

Atlanta extends Bfyuglien. 5 years $26 million.

Numerous reports stating Chicago head coach Quenneville suffered severe pain last night and went to the emergency room. He is stable and not a cardiac issue.

Stan Bowman had told him they had to trade Bfyuglien because they would have to pay him 5 years $40 million?

NHL's leading goal scorer among defenseman. Sounds like a bargain, Campbell is making 7 and Rivet is making 3.5.

Buttfugly doesn't always play D (I haven't seen much this year, though), and comparing him to two grossly-overpaid guys, who are widely known to be overpaid, well, does that really establish his value?

Would you want the Sabres to spend 5 per on buttfugly, or would this be another source of complaint about overspending on mediocrity? I strongly suspect the latter (although not necessarily from you).
