biodork Posted February 12, 2011 Report Posted February 12, 2011 If you guys thought Montreal/Boston was a battle, you guys NEED to check out Islanders vs. Pens. Incredible old school stuff. Wow - it's amazing they had enough players left to finish the game!
deluca67 Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Does the league get a cut of it or something? I doubt they do. My thoughts were more revenue sharing based.
korab rules Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Lightning blow a 3-1 lead late in the 3rd to the canes, but pull it out in overtime to hold Carolina to one point. Stupid Bolts, why couldn't they hold the lead?
Derrico Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 That was unbelievable, however, Lighting win in OT. Sabres 3 back, 3 games in hand.
Lanny Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 That was unbelievable, however, Lighting win in OT. Sabres 3 back, 3 games in hand. Atlanta plays Carolina tomorrow, someone has to lose, just hope it's in regulation.

I hate the Pens, but the Isles were ridiculous in that game. Garbage hockey from a garbage team. The Pens' announcers had it right - an embarrassment to the NHL. God I love Hockey. The homer Pens PBP guys are a riot. Brent Johnson is the Steve Shields of the Pittsburgh Penguins. I never thought I'd be a fan of a Pens player, but this guy is a riot. Dear Brent Johnson, I respect you. Even if you play for a team that I hate with unwavering passion. Regards, This guy right here. +1. I like his teammate jumping on a 10-game grenade to protect him, too. We can't get guys to clear the crease in front of Miller....who's coming off the bench to prevent him from taking a beating?

Nathan Gerbe? It would be funny, only Gerbe is the only Sabre I've seen with any kind of chip, or attitude lately.

This went way, way beyond payback and went into the land of Slap Shot Federation League thuggery.
bunomatic Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Gillies got nine games, martin got four and the team was fined U.S. 100 000 dollars while Godard of pittsburgh got ten for leaving the bench.

Just about the same can be said about Pittsburg Penguin Matt Cooke. Sorry, I just have no sympathy for the Penguins, any of them, in this case. The video's of the Penguins bench and after game interviews of Penguin players was a good indication of what was coming here. Everyone of the players I saw on that bench were laughing at DP's injury and actually voicing some pretty rude comments about it after the fact. That continued on into the post game interview. The Penguins reaped what they sowed.

dumb_dumb88 Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 Dallas Dave is an excellent source: As per Dallas Dave's twitter. Quote: #Habs shopping Andrei Kostitsyn for a defencemen. Unconfirmed rumors that they've offered Kostitsyn + Weber for Kaberle, still checking that

The Penguins reaped what they sowed. Where in my post did you see anything about sympathy for the Penguins? I have none either (in fact, I think I prefaced my first reply with "I hate the Pens".) I just think this whole thing was ridiculous ###### on the Isles' part. Go after Talbot, fine. Fight him, kick his ass, it should be over. Not once, not twice, but at least three times I counted where someone went after Talbot. And yes, Cooke deserves anything he gets. He's made a career of cheap shots and questionable hits. None of this gives the Isles carte blanche to run the rink like Dr. Hook, Ogie Oglethorpe and company. Gillies jumping Tangradi with an blindside elbow, pummeling an injured player slumped on the ice, and then taunting him from the runway while he's being tended to by the trainer? Disgusting. Except it was a fair fight by two willing participants. DiPietro should stick to goaltending if he can't fight. Thank you.

Also, at the time, none of the Penguins knew he was injured. All they saw was their goal drop the other goalie in a one punch fight. We all would be laughing at that. And as to that Slapshot style payback, I always chuckle when I hear someone (fan or former player) say the players can and should police themselves. The league has to step in sometimes.
Weave Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 <------------ My avatar approves of the turn this thread took.

I particularly like the line about the Isles "When you're one of the worst teams in hockey and an embarrassment to the NHL, I guess nothing makes a difference at this point" You stay classy Pittsburgh.
carpandean Posted February 13, 2011 Report Posted February 13, 2011 We can't get guys to clear the crease in front of Miller....who's coming off the bench to prevent him from taking a beating? Cody McC; he's been playing that kinda role while babysitting the kids (Gerbe, Byron.)

We all would be laughing at that. Exactly -- I know I would be laughing my a$$ off if Patty Lalime had dropped DiPietro like that (before it became obvious he was injured and not just KTFO). It's not really fair to him, but I think people find it more amusing when DiPietro gets hurt because of his ridiculous contract. Somehow it always turns into "well, the Isles got what the deserved for signing him to a 15-year deal" even though you can't fault the player for taking it.

thesportsbuff Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 I'm so disappointed that Forsberg is retiring again.
