Anyone recognize the guy in the third fight here?

Couple observations - first, interesting hearing RJ pronounce 52's name as "rivet" and not "Ree-Vay"; second - Brashear sure was backing up fast - he looked like he knew he had to go with Ray but didn't really want to. I also do not remember that incident at all, nor do I remember the Sabre he was fighting.

That's just so weak if you're serious about getting that out of the game.

Fine the owner a million. Suspend the coach for 10 games.

Agreed. Stiffer penalties are defintiely needed if you're going to be serious about this.

I'm having trouble seeing the elbow because of the speed and the camera angles, but that was definitely the blindside hit they've been talking about.

The blindside part is what bothers me. The hit and elbow seems to be in place and not illegal, but the blindside infuriates me.

He hits him shoulder to shoulder but he has his elbow out in front at the last second and pops him in the nose with the elbow at the same time.

Sawada has injury to his shoulder and nose from the hit.

Beauty of a hit, but illegal.

IMHO there is no way in hell that his elbow hit him in the face. Shoulder maybe. That is a completely legal hit in my eyes and I don't want that getting taken out of the game.

I don't see the elbow and the suspension was for the blindside hit according to reports I heard. I could be wrong on that but league said nothing about an elbow from what I heard. Anyone know?

It was all shoulder and no elbow. Is that a penalty if it stays shoulder to shoulder and doesn't end up shoulder to head? Tough call.

Poor Paille - the first big hit he has thrown since juniors and he gets suspended 4 games.

Chicago got jobbed tonight on a goal called back that would have put them up 1-cod. Ref called goalie interference when it clearly wasn't. Even the canucks play by play and Ray Ferarro couldn't believe the call. Its funny how they'll let guys wipe out goalies one night and on other nights they'll call phantom interference calls.

Meanwhile Buffalo got jobbed on the Cooke goal which was so offside. As was the canucks goal by erhoff ( spelling?) tonight against Chicago. Damn officiating is infuriating at times.

I was thinking Benoit Hogue.

ETA- Interweb cheating tells me it was likely Scott Pearson. I forgot about him.

LOVE peter forsberg.. always one of my favorite players when i was just getting into hockey.

things aren't sounding good for Kessel in Toronto... I know it won't happen, and would be WAY too steep a price if it did, but if Buffalo could swing a trade for Kessel and Kaberle I would be stoked. of course i think we all know that deal would involve a kassian/foligno and much more, and none of us want that. =(

This is a move Pegula needs to be all over if it is available to be made. The kid is only 23. Imagine him on a power play with Vanek and Roy?

The Leafs traded two firsts and a second for him and have come out on the short end of that deal by one player already. I have no problem with the idea of getting Kessel; I do not want them to overpay for him. They can have a first in 2011 and a second in 2012. Don't break the bank for this guy.

Kessel? That guy was last man picked at the all star game - he's a scrub!

I hear you. Despite his struggles, I've always thought that Kessel has incredible potential. I'd love to see him as a Sabre. And since Kaberle is a rumor every year, we may as well grab him too! But given the price that Burke paid for Kessel (#2 pick, aka Tyler Seguin), I don't see him giving him away for cheap.

HOWEVER...

I would have no problem coughing up our first rounder this year. From what I hear the draft class isn't that strong and we'll probably end up picking between 15-20, so that could be a nice bargaining chip. Maybe Sekera, Connolly (I know, not much value, but Toronto could afford to take a flyer on him and make a decision on his future as he is a UFA), a first rounder, Luke Adam/Gragnani/some other prospect for Kessel and Kaberle (also a UFA). Really the only untouchables are Kassian/Foligno.

I haven't seen anything out of Kessel that makes me believe he was worth the 2 first rounders Burke got ripped off for never mind the sabres giving up the farm for him. Unless you want to build around a guy thats never lived up to the hype and is soft.

Back to back 30+ goal years and is on pace to reach that milestone again, despite playing for teams where he hasn't had much of a support cast. He's a pure goal scorer and hasn't reached anywhere near his full potential yet. I would take Kessel not living up to the hype but scoring 30 goals a year over 50% of our roster.

Do you think Kessel will develop to be more than Pommer is? Cuz Phil Kessel's best stats = Jason Pominville's best stats. I'm not sure I see Kessel as an upgrade over Stafford or Pominville, all RW's. And none of those 3 are worth the ransom Toronto paid for Kessel. Kessel does give you a different skill set that may be important if you are looking to change that, but really Kessel is essentially the same scoring threat Pommer is.

Offensively, he will be better than Pommer; defensively, maybe, but not too sure about that.

He will be better than Stafford, certainly. Let's not forget that the mouse potato is in a contract year (like Hank was last year.)

Considering the team's lack of offense I would trade Pommer for Kessel straight up. But the proposal I posted would be preferred, because adding Kessel to the mix of Pommer, a hot Stafford, and Vanek could do wonders for this squads' playoff hopes. Especially if we got Kaberle, too.

And you can have him.

Sekera, Connolly, 1st rd pick, and a top prospect is an awful lot to give up for Kessel and Kaberle. If you assume Kaberle and Connolly are UFA washes then you end up with Sekera, top prospect, and a 1st rd pick for Kessel. That's getting pretty close value-wise to what Toronto gave up for Kessel to begin with. Lose either the pick or the prospect in that deal and I'd agree to it.

We need to be careful thinking of Luke Adam as a decent prospect in trades. He is the only center in the system that has a realistic shot at playing in the NHL. Center depth is a problem right now. If we are going to trade away center prospects we should be thinking in terms of getting a center back in the deal.

Phil Kessle

upside: Speed in the open, stick-handles nice to the outside, wicked shot. Goal scorer.

Downside: plays small, allergic to contact, doesn't go to the tough areas, poor vision with the puck, doesn't use teammates well, poor defense and back-check, carries the puck way too much, baffling attitude. Very streaky.

Intangibles:

Beat testicular cancer, but testicular cancer isn't the reason teammates call him Uno.

Gets benched yesterday for not back-checking, and then obliquely asks to get traded.

He's perfect where he is!!!
