X. Benedict Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Cody McCormick, and others on that play - http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=351090 FWIW...I think giving Gleason the instigator is ridiculous. Every guy in the league is probably thinking, "What the hell was Kulimin doing?"
shrader Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 FWIW...I think giving Gleason the instigator is ridiculous. Every guy in the league is probably thinking, "What the hell was Kulimin doing?" And the refs had to have been thinking along the same lines. They saw Kulemin and just assumed Gleason started the whole thing.
spndnchz Posted January 27, 2011 Author Report Posted January 27, 2011 Kotalik put on waivers today. let's hope the fax machine is still broken.
Two or less Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 Kotalik put on waivers today. let's hope the fax machine is still broken. lol in honor of Kotalik... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAHtMptN4bU&feature=player_embedded
Stoner Posted January 27, 2011 Report Posted January 27, 2011 lol in honor of Kotalik... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAHtMptN4bU&feature=player_embedded The few minutes leading up to that goal might have been the highwater mark of Sabres hockey post lockout -- heck, post Dom. Really missing Jim. And I always used to take shots at him for not being more critical of the team.
thesportsbuff Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 heard on Versus the other day that Vanek has the most powerplay goals in the league since the lockout
Calvin Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 heard on Versus the other day that Vanek has the most powerplay goals in the league since the lockout don't tell it to the folks who think Ruff is misusing him in front of the net on PPs
carpandean Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 heard on Versus the other day that Vanek has the most powerplay goals in the league since the lockout Every time PA pulls out the "Vanek outproducing Ovechkin in goals per minute" argument for playing him more, I show that he doesn't come close to OV in goals/TOI at even strength, but far outpaces OV in goals/TOI on the PP. I would argue for letting him stay out on the PP longer, but he would definitely need to move from in front of the net for some of that.
X. Benedict Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 don't tell it to the folks who think Ruff is misusing him in front of the net on PPs Vanek is about as good as they come posting up low inthat situation.
shrader Posted January 28, 2011 Report Posted January 28, 2011 Vanek is about as good as they come posting up low inthat situation. And most of the powerplay goals he doesn't score tend to be a direct result of him being in that position. Whether it's the screen or a defenseman being drawn towards him, he's usually the one putting up the results.
Tom Backyard Posted January 29, 2011 Report Posted January 29, 2011 Kotalik clears waivers. Link: http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=351455 No surprise there.
deluca67 Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Kotalik clears waivers. Link: http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=351455 No surprise there. If a team claims him on re-entry waivers they can get him for half price?
Weave Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 If a team claims him on re-entry waivers they can get him for half price? Don't say it. Don't even think it.
deluca67 Posted January 30, 2011 Report Posted January 30, 2011 Don't say it. Don't even think it. What? Having him return to the Sabres? His contract does to the end of next season. If he was a UFA at the end of this year and the Sabres were is a better position I would consider it. I was thinking more of him being a cheap option for other teams at the deadline.

If he was a UFA at the end of this year and the Sabres were is a better position I would consider it. I was thinking more of him being a cheap option for other teams at the deadline. Given the structure of the NHL, he is worth it just for shootouts and a cannon on the point. Say you are a team that is right at the playoff line. You have 32 games left...if 5 of those make it to a shootout, Kotalik might get you an extra 2-3 points. Put him on the 4th line with an instigator type that will keep him awake and he is fine. He needs to tap into his Varada and not his Jagr.
shrader Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 If a team claims him on re-entry waivers they can get him for half price? He has to be placed on re-entry waivers first, but yes.
spndnchz Posted January 31, 2011 Author Report Posted January 31, 2011 He has to be placed on re-entry waivers first, but yes. ... and waive his NTC. He'd be dumb not too.
shrader Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 ... and waive his NTC. He'd be dumb not too. Does he actually have one? Anyway, that doesn't really matter here anyway. A no trade clause only covers being traded. He'd need a no movement clause to block out a waiver transaction. If he had one of those, he more than likely would have had to already waived it to be put on waivers in the first place.

X. Benedict Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 If a team claims him on re-entry waivers they can get him for half price? Then he's half-price, but he's still Al Kotalik.
Bmwolf21 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 He does have one. I was replying to the getting picked up by another team comment. Seriously? Someone gave Kotalik a NTC? REALLY?
Bmwolf21 Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 Seriously? Someone gave Kotalik a NTC? REALLY? Did some digging around the web and found that he has a limited NTC that prevents the team from trading him to one of three teams (Calgary was one of them) so he could potentially be traded to what, 25-27 teams without his approval.
nobody Posted February 1, 2011 Report Posted February 1, 2011 New Jersey Devils are 4 sale. Bet they sell for a little more then the Sabres.
X. Benedict Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 New Jersey Devils are 4 sale. Partially.... Jeff Vanderbeek: "As Managing Member of the New Jersey Devils, it is not my desire to sell the team. My partner, Brick City, and I have different visions for the franchise. While Brick City has a right, under our partnership agreement, to explore a sale and Moag and Co. has been retained to assist in these effort, I anticipate maintaining a controlling interest." http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=551325
