Report: Langenbrunner awaits trade from Devils

Devils captain Jamie Langenbrunner is not at Prudential Center tonight for New Jersey's game against Philadelphia and is waiting to be traded, according to reports from The Record and Newark Star-Ledger.

Langenbrunner, who has been with the Devils since March 2002, said he has been in discussion with the Devils about waiving his no-trade clause. He's in the final season of a five-year contract that includes a full no-trade clause. He can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

any use to us? i've never really watched his play closely.

I'm guessing he isn't ging to waive his NTC to move up 2 spots in the standings.

He is free to enjoy Columbus--or whatever city Columbus has its farm team in. (Shouldn't it just be in Columbus?)

Langenbrunner to Dallas for a conditional third round pick, becomes a second round pick if Dallas wins a round in the playoffs and/or re-signs him.

Brodeur, 5-18-1 with a League-worst .882 save percentage tells coaching staff he's okay with Hedberg playing instead.

Is he okay with being traded too? How much is a one time great goalie worth that now sucks?

I could see Detroit picking him up, a Hasek-like move. I was watching the Detroit-Flames game last night and a commentator picked on this: not only do Detroit's best players play their best but the rest of the team plays their best too. Consistently. When the Datsyuks and Zetterbergs don't score, the Rafalskis and Eaves do. That's why they're great year after year.

Consistent max effort from all members of the team.

This is the philosophy that the Canucks have embraced this season as well. No nights off. When Gillis came in as G.M. the first thing he said was they were going to model their operations after the Detroit Red Wings which is easier said than done but this year it is all coming together. They are a well oiled machine.

"I don't think this team is close at this particular point," he said. "I think there is a good foundation here. I think this team needs to get faster. It needs more grit. It needs to be more competitive.

"We have a solid defence and solid goaltending but there are a number of areas that need to be addressed. If they get addressed well, this team won't be far. A couple of very good decisions, or a couple of really bold decisions, might put this team in a position to win immediately."

This is what Gillis said the day he was hired as GM in 2008. Sounds a lot like Darcy, ain't it?

The particular interview I listened to on 1040 am Vancouver he said he would try to run the team much like the Detroit model which had been pretty successful to that point. As far as I know most teams do look to Detroit when they look for ways to be successful. Looking at how the team is coming together I'd have to say they are fairly successful. It remains to be seen if they can have the same success in the playoffs as they are in the regular season. I suppose a huge part of that will be up to Luongo. He may sound like Darcy but the one thing that sets the two apart is Gillis will make bold moves whereas Regier is too scared to fail so no moves are made.

I was joking about the Darcy part. ;)

Wojtek Wolski (Pho) for Michael Rozival (NYR)

The movement has started early and like usual, Sabres are on the sidelines. Rangers are depeleted at forward due to injury and are taking steps to fix that for the playoff race. Sabres are down their #1 center for the season and..... :wallbash:

Hurry Pegula, hurry !!!!

His stats are down this season. The Rangers are in a tough spot injury-wise. They need quality forwards.

It's looking like Tim Kennedy doesn't get a sniff this year, which is sad.

More importantly...I think this is clearing cap space for a bigger move.....getting Rosival off the books plus Drury's time on LTIR leaves the Rangers in great shape for a trade deadline move.

Wow imagine that a GM up against the cap being creative to create the space to make moves to try and help your team.

Must be nice having ownership that lets you burn money like a addicted losing gambler.

So placing a guy on LTIR is getting creative now? I guess Sather took a hammer to Drury's hand.

haha, I thought the same thing, but kept it to myself.

Well, DeLuca's gonna be happy or mad not sure. His man Frolov has a torn ACL and out for the season.

Tough break for the kid. One of those players with good size and flashes of talent that could never really put it together on a consistent enough basis. How was he not a Sabre?

The day this front office was cemented for the dishonest, sackless, POS they are is the day Regier came public in February of '07 and said without a doubt that Connolly and Afinigenov would play again that regular season. By doing so he handed over their salary to the cap, instead of adding guys like Gary Roberts for a song and Bill Guerin who would have both been allowed on the team ALONG with Connolly and Afinogenov in the playoffs since there is no cap.

So YES......it is creative.

At the time, Afinigenov was diagnosed INTO the playoffs if he went the full term of rehab. He came back for a game and was scratched in the playoffs.

Connolly had been out a full year at the time and only made it back for the last week.

Once again.....Darcy KNEW they were going to let the captains walk in February. He needed to "protect" guys like Paille, McArthur and Stafford who could take up roster spots the next year.....at 20% the price.

This is AFTER F'n with Drury earlier in the year, knowing he wanted out.

Remember this as Tommy G makes his $175MM deposit in one of the nation's ever so solvent banks in a few weeks.
