will Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 Heard Andrew Cogliano is on the block..... as what...a younger, cheaper goose? meh.
Punch Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 as what...a younger, cheaper goose? meh. Not that I'm interested in Cogliano, but he's nearly the polar opposite to Goose in terms of size, speed, and skill set. He'd be more of what we may already have too many of: small, speedy, inconsistent scorers.
inkman Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 . Spndchz (however you spell it, or say it) is right. That's big pimpin son!
Lanny Posted July 5, 2011 Report Posted July 5, 2011 DarrenDreger I'm hearing Keith Yandle has agreed to an extension. 5 years, $26.5 mil.
spndnchz Posted July 6, 2011 Author Report Posted July 6, 2011 I think Stamkos is a talent along the lines of someone like Sidney Crosby and you typically don't have the opportunity to attempt to sign a player of that caliber. Adding a guy like Stamkos at this stage in his career gives whatever team that signs him a player to build around for the next 10-15 years. He's not the type of player that is added only to get your team over the hump. The problem with this philosophy is the long term as u stated. Giving up 4 first round picks is a pretty big setback to a club. Given a player takes at least 1-3 years to develop (exceptions sure), that's possibly a full 4-7 years before u get another 1st round pick. Before u offer sheet a player u had better know not only your short term plan but your long term plan for the team.
Sterling Archer Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Before u offer sheet a player u had better know not only your short term plan but your long term plan for the team. Short term plan: Win the CUP! Long term plan: Win MORE CUPS!
X. Benedict Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Callahan, Dubinsky, Boyle, and Sauer file for Arby for NY Rangers. http://www.northjersey.com/sports/125060263_Four_Rangers_want_raises_from_arbiter.html

nucci Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Pominville, Adam, Kassian, McNabb, 1st (12), 1st (13), for Stamkos. Yzerman thinks about it... and do you know what he's thinking after he stops laughing?
Lanny Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 think we'd offer sheet any of them? Once they file for arbitration it's too late.
dEnnis the Menace Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Once they file for arbitration it's too late. Gotcha. I'm interested to see how these all pan out then.
nucci Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Gotcha. I'm interested to see how these all pan out then. I think Callahan and Dubinsky get big awards. Can't see the Rangers being able to fit all 4 players in the cap. Would love a shot at Callahan but it will be expensive.

Weave Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 Zenon Konopka signed with the Ottawa Senators. 307 PIM's and a 57.7% faceoff win rate. He is going to make Paul Gaustad and Cody McCormick very busy boys, Goose in the circle and Cody with his fists. Ottawa may not do very well this season but they are going to entertain their fans. Neil, Lessard, Carkner, and Konopka. Shades of May, Ray, Barnaby, Hughes, et al.
X. Benedict Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 think we'd offer sheet any of them? Can't. They filed for Arby.

X. Benedict Posted July 6, 2011 Report Posted July 6, 2011 None of them will be going anywhere. It will be interesting to see how they do it. I imagine it will involve moving Wolski and Avery.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 It will be interesting to see how they do it. I imagine it will involve moving Wolski and Avery. Avery still plays in the NHL?
ROC Sabres Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 Avery still plays in the NHL? People still care Avery plays in the NHL?
Marvelo Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 You know about the Sedin twins but do you know that Vancouver drafted another pair of Swedish twins in the 2011 draft? Is that weird or what? The Canucks are starting to look like a Nazi experiment or "Village of the Damned." http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=568775
carpandean Posted July 8, 2011 Report Posted July 8, 2011 Isn't it time for an "Around the NHL 2011-2012" thread? Contracts ended July 1, so doesn't that signal the start of the NHL calendar year?
