Yup. Looks like the Sabres would have had a shot at NY, Washington, Montreal, maybe Pittsburgh, and maybe TB, in our conference. I thought a Boston match up would have been good before this second round, after watching some of the Habs/Bruins games, but I think now they would have smacked the Sabres down harder than Philly did.

I thought Buffalo matched up well with Boston.

Boston is beating Philly because Philly has no rebound control.

They are beating Philly with net presence and rebound control. I don't think the Bruins could have hemmed Buffalo in like the Flyers did.

Agreed - hence my comment. If the NHL was smart, they would have swapped Bos-Phil onto the NHL Network (I assume TSN or someone was covering it, too).

However, I imagine it had to do with the markets and that they already had Doc Emrick & Ed Olczyk in Boston.

I suspect it has everything to do with Vs's market size in each team's city.

I'm watching the game and I don't think the Nashville fans realize their team is losing.

You ain't kidding. I didn't feel the intensity or panic from a home crowd like I usually can. I watched from Nashville's weird 2nd goal to the end and even though Vancouver was leading, it seemed like both teams were going through the motions. That didn't feel like a playoff game at all.

Now that the Caps are out - Darcy can start talking to them.

Teams out of the playoffs can talk trades? The only player on the Caps I'd be interested in will be an UFA, anyhow: Brooks Laich.

I hate the Bruins too.

o god yes me too, but watching the Cryers die in 4 is making me happy... however does that mean that the sabres need a lot more because the flyers arent that good or are we fine and dont worry?

I don't care what anyone says, but the Sabres beat the living crap out of the Flyers the first 5 and half games and wore them out. The Flyers have played extremely slow, lazy, and they just have looked dead every game. I believe most of this is because of what Buffalo put them through in the first round.

I agree with this. The Sabres softened up the Flyers in the first round and the Bruins really finished them off with authority.

The Flyers lost a top player in Carter, but what really did them in - and the Sabres should've been able to exploit this a lot better - was their goaltending.

And personally I think the reason the Flyers seemed "dead", is the fact that the Bruins apparently are a lot faster than us.

Most teams are faster than us these days, not sure when that happened.

Well the goaltender situation in Philly was obvious even in the first round, Buffalo just couldn't capitalize to the point of winning game 6 when they had it within their grasp. The fact that it was a very physical series for both teams also played a roll. You can be sure that Philly was also hurting after the 7 games with Buffalo but just couldn't let on about injuries due to their next series.

How many shots did the Sabres average during the season and then during the Flyer series?

Season: 32.8 for (4th in league), 30.7 against (17th)

Playoffs: 30.3 for (11th), 35.9 against (15th)

Of course we all know this was due to the Sabres not being able to get out of their own zone. But if they were able to keep pace with their regular season placement they would have averaged 4 more shots per game and 4 less shots against. Over the series that would give the Sabres probably 3 mores goals for and 3 less against. Probably enough to win one more game.
