Buffalo Wings Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Wow. 2 goals in 24 sec by TB to go up 4-3. The caps looked absolutely awful on D that last one. Caps need a miracle now. I honestly didn't see this one coming.
LabattBlue Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Anyone else find the 3 camera crews running on the ice at games end strange? It was if TB had won the Cup.
thesportsbuff Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Nashville stole my "Gold Rush" idea! I assume you mean the gold tee shirts? I suggested that to my friends, too, at the start of Game 3 vs Philly. It was just so bland with all the dark-blue jerseys/teeshirts and sabres-wear... dark blue just doesn't stand out enough. I thought it would be sweet if Buffalo handed out gold shirts.
LGR4GM Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Dear vancouver, the playoffs started. Sincerely, G. Bettman. You would think Vancouver would be more dominant than they have been and its kinda sad. Well maybe they will pull this one out, they did start really strong, but Rinne is shutting down the net. I feel like Vancouver takes this one though but I need sleep. 1-1 but Vans outshooting them 24-9, should be a good finish!
darksabre Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Washington continuing to prove my belief that they are the most overrated team in the league. I'm loving every minute of this.
OverPowerYou Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Pekka Rinne makes a save and the commentator says, "Impeccable save by Pekka Rinne." For some reason I thought that was funny.
SwampD Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Great game. Too bad it had to end on a horrible hooking call on Weber. The guy was definitely holding his stick. I hate when the refs ruin a good game.
OverPowerYou Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Weber made it obvious that he was NOT hooking when he tried to yank his stick from out of the players arms several times. Terrible ending to a terrible game. Good hitting/chances in overtime, bur neither of these teams has been consistent in the playoffs. Give me SanJose or Detroit. One of those teams will rep. the West this year.
Punch Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 With all the discussion here and on WGR about trading Ryan Miller, I've been wondering: Is it possible the Caps could sell the idea to fans of moving Ovechkin for a boatload, a la the Herschel Walker trade? I can't see how they will ever win with this guy, unless he truly has a "come to Jesus" kind of conversion in regards to playing within the team concept and committing to defense and sensible physical play, rather than continuing as the gung-ho individualist that he has been--- despite all the PR hype to the contrary, he absolutely has not changed his stripes. I believe he is being stifled somewhat by Boudreau's sea change in defensive philosophical approach this season (in addition to teams more or less figuring out his moves which, while still effective from time to time, are no longer a guaranteed scoring chance), but his being more effective as an individualist also kind of makes it impossible to build around him. I like several Caps' players (Laich, Johannsen), but I hate their team... and the multitude of clueless bandwagon fans, but that's a whole other thing. Maybe it would be easier to move either Backstrom or Mike Green, but I still think OV is a huge obstacle, despite his prodigious talent--- literally the poster child for all that ails the Capitals in the postseason.

When was the last time the Caps reached ECF with Ovechkin? I believe NEVER... That being said, Ovechkin is good during the regular season when he plays selfishly and dipsy doodles around players in regular season games. You can't win like that in the playoffs as it takes a team effort. Sure, we would probably be the best team almost every year if we had him, but his style of play wouldn't help us in the playoffs. To this day, I still believe Ovechkin is a Class A chokeartist. Unless a change of scenery (coming to Buffalo) changes him, I don't want him. But hey, he was a sabres fan when he was a kid, right? Maybe that'll change him if he played here
Iron Crotch Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Weber made it obvious that he was NOT hooking when he tried to yank his stick from out of the players arms several times. Terrible ending to a terrible game. Good hitting/chances in overtime, bur neither of these teams has been consistent in the playoffs. Give me SanJose or Detroit. One of those teams will rep. the West this year. Just got back from the Preds-Canucks game. Pretty good atmosphere except for the second period when the crowd was kind of dead. Was a brutal call on Weber at the end of the game - everyone in the stadium could see Kesler holding Shea's stick. The refs didn't call much throughout, so it is a mystery why that call would be made... but in general I thought the Preds didn't have the energy that they did in Game 2 in Vancouver. On another note, Joel Ward is a free agent who we might want to take a look at.
rbochan Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Great game. Too bad it had to end on a horrible hooking call on Weber. The guy was definitely holding his stick. I hate when the refs ruin a good game. Especially after the all-too-obviously botched too many men non-call on the 'Nucks.
rbochan Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Nice of the scheduling Einsteins to put both EC games on at the same time tonight.
nobody Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Nashville stole my "Gold Rush" idea! Didn't it look nice? Too bad the Sabres missed their chance on this one.
spndnchz Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 So who wins a Stanley Cup first? Ovechkin or Miller?
Weave Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 So who wins a Stanley Cup first? Ovechkin or Miller? Depends. Which one gets traded first?
X. Benedict Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Great game. Too bad it had to end on a horrible hooking call on Weber. The guy was definitely holding his stick. I hate when the refs ruin a good game. I agree. That was a lousy call. I thought it ruined a terrific game.
X. Benedict Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 So who wins a Stanley Cup first? Ovechkin or Miller? Boudreau has really never impressed me as a coach. He's got a ton of Russian talent on that team, and the big switch this year was to a more defensive system. The defensive system has led to bad habits from falling back. They are having lots of trouble with Tampa's 1-3-1 (are you kidding me...you have Semin, Ovechkin and Backstrom) Too much individual play through the neutral zone and on entres. Tampa has simply been the better team. Better skating, better pursuing, better puck supporting team. (Miller  )
carpandean Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I agree. That was a lousy call. I thought it ruined a terrific game. Or lousy non-call on Kesler. Weber's stick was in his hands, so you could argue "hooking" by the current definition, but then also call "holding the stick" on Kesler.
X. Benedict Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Or lousy non-call on Kesler. Weber's stick was in his hands, so you could argue "hooking" by the current definition, but then also call "holding the stick" on Kesler. Tucking a stick under your arm shouldn't get a call in that situation. I actually think the ref should yell "let go of the stick!...play on!...." there.
Buffalo Wings Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Tucking a stick under your arm shouldn't get a call in that situation. I actually think the ref should yell "let go of the stick!...play on!...." there. Agreed - give Kesler one chance to let it go so he doesn't have to call a penalty. Of course, if the ref saw it correctly, he might have actually done this.
donteatyellowsnow Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 So who wins a Stanley Cup first? Ovechkin or Miller? Ovechkin. He will have a new coach next year and then Washington will go somewhere in the playoffs.
Iron Crotch Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Nashville stole my "Gold Rush" idea! Gold tee shirts tomorrow night in Nashville too. Plus the towels that seem to be mandatory for all NHL arenas during playoff time now.
OverPowerYou Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 So who wins a Stanley Cup first? Ovechkin or Miller? This is a trick question. What if neither of them ever win the Stanley Cup? Also, what happens if they win the Stanley Cup and they're on the same team? Does it then become a matter of who touches the cup first?
