Campy Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Bernie "Boom Boom" Geoffrion was a hockey legend probably most well-known as the inventor of the slapshot. He retired after a stellar career with the Habs, but came out of retirement a couple of years later and led the Rangers to the playoffs. I'll put a couple of links below if you're interested in learning more about him. A week ago he was in surgery and during the surgery doctors discovered that he had stomach cancer. 6 months ago the Habs told him they would retire his jersey on March 11 (today) - a move that most hockey fans agreed was long overdue. Upon learning about the cancer Boom Boom reassured fans that they needn't worry, that he "wouldn't miss it for the world." Boom Boom died earlier today. His wife, kids, and grandkids raised his #5 to the rafters in an emotional ceremony prior to Montreal's game this evening. It's a sad day for hockey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernie_%22Boo...om%22_Geoffrion http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=Av2b...ov=ap&type=lgns
Rock DJ Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 It's a sad day for hockey. A great player and a great man. Never saw him in a Montreal uni, but did get to see him with the Rangers. Wish I had seen tonite's ceremony.

Wish I had seen tonite's ceremony. You need Center Ice. They showed it. He deserved to go up to the rafters in the original 'Forum'. The Habs were once the class of the NHL. I don't know if that's true anymore.
