gregkash Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 Please assume in the poll that he will be signed for a very low price if not the veteran minimum. Basically it's asking if having another veteran presence on the blue line would solidify it more. I for one feel much more comfortable with McKee than both Sekera and Weber. But I also acknowledge we'd probably have to deal one of the two.
darksabre Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 I love Jay McKee to death. And I never want to see him back in a Sabres uniform.
gregkash Posted August 27, 2010 Author Report Posted August 27, 2010 I love Jay McKee to death. And I never want to see him back in a Sabres uniform. I completely understand that point of view.
wonderbread Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 Why not. I saw him last spring in Pittsburgh and he still looked pretty good. He's getting up there and he's been injured a lot but giving him a shot couldn't hurt. Personally I'd rather have him in there than Butler who imo has regressed. maybe it would serve as a good motivator. Of course with DR and LQ buying out Kennedy over 200k, i doubt anything like this will veer happen.
thesportsbuff Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 I like Jay McKee and I think I'd like him more than butler/sekera/weber.
nfreeman Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 It's too late for McKee now, but he was one of my all-time favorite Sabres by the time he left. McKee and Grier were the 2 biggest losses in the summer of 2006.
FearTheReaper Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 Jay Mckee or Shakira as the 6th man?
inkman Posted August 27, 2010 Report Posted August 27, 2010 Jay Mckee or Shakira as the 6th man? The question should be Sekera for 65-80 games or McKee for 35-45 games.
jpgr909 Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 I love Jay McKee to death. And I never want to see him back in a Sabres uniform. Nicely put.
bunomatic Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 When Jay left the sabres I was one pissed off fan But his time as a sabre is so obviously done that I don't think its even reasonable to debate it. The man is and was a warrior and it shows. He's done like dinner.
gregkash Posted August 28, 2010 Author Report Posted August 28, 2010 He did block 133 shots last year. And he was actually asked to hold back on shot blocking. Anyone know what the other Sabres D blocked?
wjag Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 He did block 133 shots last year. And he was actually asked to hold back on shot blocking. Anyone know what the other Sabres D blocked? From memory, I'd say three..
darksabre Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 He did block 133 shots last year. And he was actually asked to hold back on shot blocking. Anyone know what the other Sabres D blocked? Miller blocked a lot of shots last year.
wjag Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Miller blocked a lot of shots last year. It is responses like this that have me coming back for more.. Well played..
deluca67 Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Miller blocked a lot of shots last year. "A lot", but not enough.
darksabre Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 "A lot", but not enough. Harnessing the power of seven men is a tough ordeal.
OTTOnME Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Has Darcy Regier learned nothing from 2005-06? He watched his team run out of NHL-calibre defensemen as the playoffs progressed. His decision to stand pat during the trade deadline frenzy cost the Sabres a Stanley Cup championship. It's all the more frustrating knowing - as Regier knew - that it would have cost relatively little to pick up a journeyman defenseman or two for the final few weeks. Now what do we see? Darcy adding depth up front. Instead of picking up a journeyman defenseman or two - to play in the AHL until needed in the spring - he brings in Colin Stuart, a winger with some size who rarely uses it, and little offensive ability.
Patty16 Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 The question should be Sekera for 65-80 games or McKee for 35-45 games. Exactly, Mckee cant stay healthy, he's actually been missed more games in the last two season than COnnolly if memory serves correctly. He's also old and way too slow with injuries aside. Have to say letting him go was a good move. I may never forgive him for not taking care of that cut in playoffs that became infected. Enjoy reitirement jay.
FolignosJock Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 All i know is that the goalie is paid to block shot and while i think it takes alot of heart and soul to do it as a defensemen in the NHL it makes me angry when people glorify the stat. I remember Jay Mckee blocking two shots into our own net in the playoffs that year and i hated it. On top of that he goes down because of it leaves us shorthanded on the blueline and we lose. I think Jay was a great defenseman but his time has passed and it was one of Darcys best moves to let him go that year, he was severely overrated and over paid.
FearTheReaper Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 The question should be Sekera for 65-80 games or McKee for 35-45 games. And my reply is A mediocre, garbage Sekera for 50 games, so an above average Mckee for 25-35?
FearTheReaper Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 Miller blocked a lot of shots last year. Hilarious.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted August 28, 2010 Report Posted August 28, 2010 From memory, I'd say three.. Myers blocked 137 shots last years.
Stoner Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 I miss McKee's Rocks. Not to be confused with his slippery rocks. Some Western PA humor, sorry.
