Sabretooth Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Ruff knows hockey well and knows what players he need. He has played the game, and stands his ground. Regier does not know hockey or how to manage a team. His success is screwing over players and everyone else.

He should screw more players.
Sabretooth Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Screwing over players? He must be the most patient GM in the game. He should screw more players. That is not patience. That is doing nothing to improve your team.
ECHL Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 That is not patience. That is doing nothing to improve your team. It isnt screwing players though. Players that left have hit home runs with stupid contracts but maybe not Kenndey.
wjag Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Certainly - there were many calls to dump Paille last year, which finally happened. So he goes to Boston and puts in a halfway decent effort and stings the Sabres in the playoffs. So, why was he not playing like that here? The GM? Nope. He sure did look like a much improved player under a different coach. The system wasn't that much different.
ECHL Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 He sure did look like a much improved player under a different coach. The system wasn't that much different. No he didnt, and no it isnt. Not even close.
Sabre Dance Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 How does that work. Worse stats with more ice time is the truth of it for Paille's comparison from Buffalo to Boston. Don't miss Paille. I certainly don't miss him. He did get more ice time and generally put in a better effort in a Bruins' sweater. Whether that was the shock of the trade or better coaching in Boston, who knows? I'm just saying....

I don't know, maybe you did, but if not, then you can't really say anything about his relative effort level. He had good games as a Sabre, too; just not often enough.
JoDo Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 First of all I liked Kennedy and was baffled by DR's move. That being said, does anyone realize that even at 1mil no other GM picked him up off Waivers? Correct me if I'm wrong but if he was picked up then as opposed to signed now, he would have only been a 500k cap hit. This alone is hardly a bullet in the tires of next season.
carpandean Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Correct me if I'm wrong but if he was picked up then as opposed to signed now, he would have only been a 500k cap hit. You are wrong!!! ;) Actually, you're kind of wrong. Had he been picked up off of waivers, his cap hit for the Sabres would have been $0. The new team would get it all. However, if he had not been bought out (for example, if he had been awarded $999,999, then they would not have had the option to buy him out) and they had put him on re-entry waivers, then were he picked up, the Sabres would have still had to pay half his salary and had half of his cap hit.
Skibum Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Lindy's comments probably reflected what most fans would have observed over the last season: That despite his good hustle, losing Tim Kennedy would not be a huge deal, and that there are at least two guys (Ennis and Gerbe) ready and willing to fill his skates - for less money.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Game 7 vs Carolina is on NHLN righ now and I just can believe how far a team like that years could fall. The 06 Sabres were a checking, hustling and hardworking machine. Where does that all go? Has Lindy changed his strategy? Do the players lack the desire to compete? Are they out of shape; lazy; content? I just don't understand how that all changes if the coach doesn't. It has to be the players. They're the variable that hasn't remained the same. How do we get that heart back? How is Carolina doing these days?
carpandean Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 How is Carolina doing these days? They are testing the "how long does the post-Cup high last" question.
static70 Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 How is Carolina doing these days? They look to be doing quite fine in their rebuild while their fans and organization live in the coziness of winning the Cup. Thats how they are doing. Any questions?

darksabre Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 this seems like an easy answer. the sabres do not have drury briere campbell dumont mckee anymore. I just wonder how it can be that easy. How do you take a team and completely remove its guts? I can see ending up with a floater or two, but half a team? That just doesn't happen. Edit: game is on again. Had to change the channel fast before I started seething with anger again.

I actually did watch a few B's games, thanks to the curse of NESN here. He was as anonymous there as he was with us, playing in spurts.
