By the way, Ruff's not off the hook

Thought this deserved its own thread, since it goes pretty squarely to the heart of many of the debates surrounding Lindy.

In the "presser" (maybe these events need a different, more accurate name)... in his lecture to the microphone holders, Darcy said that he and Larry and Tom and LINDY work together on everything. They're part of a four-man unit that goes up and down the ice tethered to a string. Lindy was consulted about the Kennedy situation.

I think it's fair to extrapolize from that that Lindy has a very big say in drafts, trades, free agents, waives (waivers?) etc.

The standard Ruff apologist retort that, "Look what Darcy gives him to work with" just won't fly.

You can't extrapolate from that to conclude that Lindy has a big say. He was consulted, was what Regier said. He very well could have pleaded to keep Kennedy on the team, for all you know. Or he could have said that he wants Kennedy on the first bus out of town, for all you know.

In any four person group, do you feel that all four get equal say and carry equal weight?

This agenda of yours is wearing thin. Just cause all four people were consulted doesn't mean they agreed.

How many of these arguments do you think Lindy has lost, while still wanting to stay on board? It's hard to reconcile the two.

Wearing thin -- I'm really going out on a limb wanting to see a coaching change after 27 years. Wait til January, you're gonna be really sick of hearing it then.

Anyway, did I really write "extrapolize." Note to self -- stop hanging out with W.

I think Lindy has lost quite a few of these battles but all coaches do. You continue to ignore the fact that very few coaches "quit" over management disagreements. There are 30 of these jobs and these guys realize that it is seldom better anywhere else.

I was taught the word was extrapolate.

Certainly - there were many calls to dump Paille last year, which finally happened. So he goes to Boston and puts in a halfway decent effort and stings the Sabres in the playoffs. So, why was he not playing like that here? The GM? Nope.

I'm 99.9% sure extrapolize isn't a word. I googled it and one of the first hits was my initial post!

Just a hunch but I get the feeling that Lindy's say doesn't go very far. Look at how he was saddled with Max year after year when it was clear by way of the frequent trips to the press box, that they(Lindy and Max) were never on the same page.

How does that work. Worse stats with more ice time is the truth of it for Paille's comparison from Buffalo to Boston. Don't miss Paille.

When an inconsistent player is traded away by a team and then consistently plays well against that team, it's not evidence that he really is a consistent player; it's evidence that he tries harder against the team that traded him. Pretty common, actually. As ECHL pointed out, his overall stats were even worse in Boston (10G, 10A, -3) than they were here.

Just to add a bit of precision to this. Darcy never used the word "consulted." He said, "Lindy was a part of this."

That's called deflection of blame.

Darcy is good at that. Deflect it from himself, deflect it from Lindy, deflect it from Quinn, deflect it from Golisano, deflect it from the team, deflect it from the players when needed.

1. That's why I didn't use quotes. You didn't either, with "work together on everything," or whatever.

2. Still a far stretch from putting the decision on the coach. As I wrote above, and as you didn't address, Lindy could have pleaded to keep him, or Lindy could have said he really wanted him gone, as far as you know.

I didn't "put the decision on the coach." (OK, we're getting into Chris Farley country with the quote marks.)

I pointed out that Ruff had some say in it.

It's a small bit of news regarding how the Sabres make decisions. And it flies in the face of many defenses of Ruff that I've heard -- "What's the guy gonna do? He works with what Darcy gives him. He has no say in personnel decisions," etc.

Lindy's grubby mitts are all over this roster.

You have no idea how much say he had in the decision, PA, or any other personnel decision. Nor do I. Nor does anyone else on this board. So, this is unsupportable: "I think it's fair to extrapolize from that that Lindy has a very big say in drafts, trades, free agents, waives (waivers?) etc."

Don't pick your fight with me; there are enough other people above who made the same point. Stop trying to make everything fit your crusade.

My fight is with you. Always you. Always. We change avatars for each other. Obsession. By Varada.

Game 7 vs Carolina is on NHLN righ now and I just can believe how far a team like that years could fall. The 06

Sabres were a checking, hustling and hardworking machine. Where does that all go? Has Lindy changed his strategy? Do the players lack the desire to compete? Are they out of shape; lazy; content?

I just don't understand how that all changes if the coach doesn't. It has to be the players. They're the variable that hasn't remained the same. How do we get that heart back?
