Koivu and Cullen?

1.) Agreed the Sabres spend too much time in their own zone. This is a constant concern three seasons running.

2.) Depth at RW is worse than C. Stafford failed to dig in. Pominville shows up at his choosing. This is a position I like to fix via the trade route no later than the first month into the season.

I think the two reason the Sabres spend to much time in their zone is because:

A) They can't win a faceoff and

B) They aren't physical enough to win the battles for the puck.

Speaking of sending someone down, have the Sabres resigned Mancari?

Ink's right, not signed. The Sabres do not sign what they feel are "career AHL's" . They need the space for their prospects that have a chance to make an impact in the NHL. They'll sign some veteran guys for the AHL, but Mancari ain't one of them.

I heard somewhere Mancari got some offers from the Swiss league.

Mancari still unsigned. Hopefully this is a message to those who still think he's in the Sabres plans.

They need someone to call up when the eventual injury or flu bug rolls through the lockerroom. They really don't have much in the way of forwards in the system, so I think he'll be back to fill that role of the AHL shuttle guy.

Having him in that role is fine but they did sign Conboy and Gerbe seems like a lock to start the year in Portland. This speaks nothing to the fact of the other prospects that will be in Portland this season. They may want to take a look at a kid climbing up the prospect ladder rather than trusty old mark mancari.

Conboy's there for the sole purpose of protecting the prospects in Portland. He'll never set foot in the NHL. They may at one point want to give one of the kids a shot with an injury call up, but there's no guarantee. It will be good to have someone with a little NHL time under his belt in the system in case that's what they need from a callup. He's pretty much the ideal fit for that role since he's very familiar with the team at this point.

So the real question: is mancari ready to essentialy admit he's no longer an NHL caliber player?

Does he have a choice if no one else is offering him anything?

Al Kotalik could make this guy look like a pussycat.

I don't blame Webster for starting the thread....but this is exactally what the Sabres expect. Throw the dog a rawhide to keep him away from the table while everyone else is eating steak and lobster.

Who is eating steak and lobster.
