Vanek Nation Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Gagne to tampa for 4th rounder + Matt Walker The Sabres couldn't make a better offer than this?
Lanny Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Gagne to tampa for 4th rounder + Matt Walker The Sabres couldn't make a better offer than this? Weird, maybe he wouldn't waive his NTC to come here or the Flyers wouldn't trade him to a team they would deem as a contender.
Lanny Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Gagne: "I was willing to waive my no-trade clause only for Tampa Bay, not for other teams'' http://twitter.com/erlendssontrib
nfreeman Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Gagne: "I was willing to waive my no-trade clause only for Tampa Bay, not for other teams'' http://twitter.com/erlendssontrib I figured the NTC would be an issue. Nobody waives these to come to Buffalo.

Nobody waives these to come to Buffalo. What else was he going to say? Do you really think Tampa Bay was the only team he wanted to go to? He is probably looking forward to Lecavalier or Stamkos feeding him the puck, though. On that team with those set up men, he could very easily have a career season and set himself up nicely for free agency next year. That assumes he can keep form getting concussed AGAIN.

korab rules Posted July 19, 2010 Report Posted July 19, 2010 Do you really think that is all they could get for him if they were able to take offers from other teams? Various reports indicate he was given permission to speak with teams that might be interested in acquiring him. In Hasek fashion he handcuffed the franchise. My statement stands. I am sure there were other teams he was willing to go to. The question is whether they were willing to offer up enough to induce the Flyers to OK the deal. No doubt he is worth more on the open market, but the GM's know they have the flyers by the short hairs in this situation. We will never know how many trade scenarios were shot down before this one was OK'd. It continues to surprise me that GM's hand out NTC's like candy. Don't they realize it will eventually bite them in the arse?

wjag Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Gagne to tampa for 4th rounder + Matt Walker The Sabres couldn't make a better offer than this? That is the equivalent of trading him for the zamboni.
thesportsbuff Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Can't blame him for wanting to play with world-class players and a world-class GM.
SabresneedaCup Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Can't blame him for wanting to play with world-class players and a world-class GM. i recall lecavalier stick butting kennedy in the stomach this past year.
nfreeman Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 What else was he going to say? Do you really think Tampa Bay was the only team he wanted to go to? Probably not, but do you think Buffalo was on his approved list?
Lanny Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Probably not, but do you think Buffalo was on his approved list? I can't see that being the best offer they could get if more than one team is bidding.
SwampD Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 I don't recall anyone doing anything about it though. Didn't Hecht fight him? I think he won, too.
korab rules Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Probably not, but do you think Buffalo was on his approved list? Not likely. Man, it hurts to say that. I know that young millionares don't find buffalo attractive, but the bills are supposed to be the dysfunctional franchise in buffalo, not the sabres. They appear to be switching places.

They will never switch places. The Bums will always be the Bums. The Sabres may join them, but I can't imagine a switch.
wonderbread Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Hrmmm....play wing for Tim Connolly or Vinny LeCavalier? Tough call there... The Skill knows you're talking trash. LQ will now have send his dogs on you.
billsrcursed Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 That was in 2008. Hecht had his visor on and I wouldn't say he "won" it was more of a slap boxing affair. Tell that to Vinny's face. He walked away with quite the shiner after that fight. Not sure a "slap" would leave a mark like that.
Guest Sloth Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Not related to Gagne, but I'd love it if Darcy went for Lecavalier. Give up Roy, Gerbe, and a pick for the guy. Tampa may want to make some cap space. Roy wouldn't be too difficult to replace...Ennis could play as a 2nd line center. On a more serious note, I would not be surprised if Ennis, providing the Sabres don't get a true first line center, pushed Roy down to the 2nd line by the 11/12 season.

You're missing one part of what Philly got in this trade, cap relief. That's just as important as any player or draft pick they pick up. Yes, it's still unbalanced, but the crazy spending teams wind up having to do deals like this, especially because of the NTCs they hand out like candy at halloween.

Ennis is the wild card in all of this. Can Tyler Ennis play the Line 1 Center position and do it successfully? I am not convinced, I still believe since Ennis is a Center, they should stick him on the RW with Vanek and Roy. He shoots Lefty, so maybe we will see Ennis on the LW with Vanek (who shoots righty) on the RW. Any way it gets sliced and diced, I would love to see Ennis up on line 1 with Vanek and Roy. May not be the sizable RW power forward we all were hoping for, but it has to be better than Stafford up there I would imagine.
