More than rumors

You guys are too funny. TC disappears when he's really needed, based on one disappointing playoff series? He's got five goals and sixteen assists in 30 playoff games. Up until this past post-season, which TC, Vanek, Hecht, and who knows who else were either out with injuries our playing through injuries, he was 20 points in 24 playoff games. Wow! He sure is invisible in the post season!

Would you please confine your Connolly fellating to one thread? This level of man love borders on disturbing.

I have read some articles that today is the day Kovy makes a decision regarding LA.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=533377

People are commenting on how Kovy's deal will set the market place and get things moving again.

I am inclined to think like some others on the board that Darcy is waiting for the arbitration hearings for Kennedy and Kaleta to finish up to see where he stands with cap space.

With that in mind, anyone see Darcy making a move prior to the completion of that process to secure a UFA?

Tim Connolly only excels when it doesn't matter. Waste of a roster spot.

You're right, none of last season mattered at all. I forgot we don't have to win games to make the playoffs.

For what it's worth, I would be very surprised if one or either of those arbitration hearings ever actually happens. They'll work out something in advance with at least one of the two.

Name one game last season where Tim Connolly came in and made a memorable play to win the game, instead of simply racking up points in a blow out? Every game where Timmy did something useful last season left me thinking "why couldn't you have done that last game?".

Connolly had a few good games last season, but he certainly didn't play well enough to change my mind about him. Numbers aren't everything.

Some one, or maybe a couple of folks, were commenting on both of them making around the 1 to 1.25 mil mark. If these are in the ball park shrader, what is the club looking at cap space wise?

I am looking at capgeek (which many of you have helped me navigate, thanks by the way) and it looks like roughly 5 million, is this correct?

You don't have to be the star player to make a difference. You don't have to score the game winning goal (although he was third on the team with 5 GWG, behind Vanek & Roy who tied for first/second with 6) to be considered "good." Personally I would rather have Connolly scoring around 20 goals and dishing out assists on a game-to-game basis than have Thomas Vanek show up to score a 'memorable' goal every two weeks.

I can't name any big games from last year off the top of my head, but I'm betting you can't just pull a game out of your hat that Connolly "racked up points in a blowout" either.

I'm not going to bother if you wont. I just couldn't tell you a game last year where I was happy he was on the team. In fact, some of the best games Buffalo played last year were when he was out with a foot injury. I wont miss Tim Connolly if/when he's gone.

And the theoretical trade we were discussing still has both Connolly and Roy on the roster. They would keep Poms w/ Timmy and Roy would most likely move to left wing with Vanek sliding to RW (but tending towards LW when possession is gained/maintained in the other team's end). Roy has played wing very successfully in the past, I see no reason why he couldn't make the transition back again.

Your original comment implied that Savard is too old to center the 1st line. Why would that be?

IMHO...

Roy as winger >> Roy as center

I've never bothered with that site, but I'll trust your numbers on this one. If subtracted those two figures from the cap space available figure, then you're right. The one thing that's always a bit trick with these sites though is that they don't usually include someone like Weber or Gragnani, or even Ennis/Gerbe who could be riding the Portland shuttle. Those cap figures are relatively small, but they'll change things a bit.

Funny thing, Ecklund reporting "Confirmation. Kings are definitely out of Kovalchuk sweeps" 15 minutes after NJD confirmed he's coming back. ha ha haha ho.

Racking up points in a blowout (four points in an 8-1 win, for example), or racking up points (even just one) in a bunch of blowouts?

I'll define "racking up" points as having three or more in a game. Connolly did it only four times:

October 30 -- GWG OT win vs. Toronto (pretty memorable) -- 2-1=3

November 27 -- 4-2 win against Philly -- 2-2=4

December 27 -- 5-3 win against St. Louis -- 2-1=3

January 18 -- 7-2 win against Phoenix -- 0-3=3 (but the first two assists came in the second period to make it 4-1 and 5-1 Sabres; more an example of racking up points to put a game away than racking up points after a game is a blowout)

Given this information, I don't see how Connolly could have gotten enough points in any other blowout games to be fairly accused of "racking up" points. They had only a handful of blowout wins last season and Connolly was out of the lineup for at least three of them, against the Florida teams in March.

His source from the Devils still has a hold of his ears

As soon as he's done chewing his food, he'll confirm ;)

One or two goals from these overpaid ferries and The Sabres probably win that series. That's one or two goals in 6 games, from your top 2 centermen. They didn't even manage that! That is beyond ridiculous.

Ferries? I didn't know we had any water-borne shuttles in Buffalo. Now, it you were referring to fairies, that's different...

As long as you understood my point

Was your point that our fanbase is quickly turning into a non-violent version of the Philadelphia fanbase?

Well, I didn't boo Zednik being rushed off the ice if that's what you mean, so no.

All kidding aside, it's the off-season and people are getting tired of seeing the franchise repeating it's mistakes is all.

To be perfectly honest, I think I've been a lot more annoyed duing past off-seasons because then I would actually expect some sort of action.

I think we're closing in on very bad territory if we start calling players fairies just becuase we don't like them. I was going to say that we should save that kind of stuff for purse carriers on other teams like Jason Spezza, but then I remembered the biggest purse carrier of them all... Sean Avery.

You will make an exception for Roy, though, right?

And maybe Tallinder in light of his sword crossing incident?

Rumor has it the Buffalo Sabres are in on both Patrick Sharp of the Chicago BlackHawks and Free Agent Alexander Frolov.

(According to Ecklund, who just broke the Gagne trade).

On a side note, I tried to use my Ecklund rumor generator for this trade and signing, but it never came up. I did however, get a Connolly to Toronto for Kaberle and a Gary Bettman bobble head doll (E3). I think Toronto needs to throw in a bucket of KFC (crispy) and we can close that deal.

Don't fall for it. He cherry picks rumors from other sources, so he in no way broke anything here. The last thing we need is someone else believing his garbage and posting it endlessly.

Got it. And I won't, but I did find the rumor generator amusing. :D
