Here is what was said about the Sabres:

"First, a tidbit about the Northeast.

One of Bob Probert's biggest rivals, or at least a guy he fought a lot, was Craig Berube. I have renamed the Northeast Division the Craig Berube Division. Some good tough guys here and a message to Buffalo, and Montreal. Add some toughness. Quick.

OTT- Matt Carkner, Chris Neil

BOS- Shawn Thornton, Jeremy Reich

TOR- Colton Orr, Jay Rosehill"

After getting pushed around by the Bruins in the playoffs I hope that the Sabres get the memo.

One question: what does getting pushed around by the Bruins, if we did (TW will be by shortly to have that argument), have to do with adding fourth-line enforcers or bruisers? That's the type of mistake that Darcy would make, leaving our top-six as soft as ever, getting pushed around during the 50-55 minutes that those tough guys aren't on the ice.

McCormick can play during the games against teams that have enforcers, and actually pitch in and contribute some during the game other than a 5 minute fighting major.

Toughness issues aside, the Sabres have far more vital needs to address this offseason before they start worrying about trying to counter that group of morons.

Yeah, I'm concerned about us going up against those three teams, but why would you want to tell Montreal to add some toughness? That makes it four teams that make us look like the one in the blue and gold stripes (and that was purely coincidental):

The Sabres were pushed around by the Bruins. Rask played well for the Bruins but when a goalie sees every shot and has no threat of anyone playing in front of him he will look better than he plays. The Bruins had 4 d men in front of the gaol on almost every Sabres possesion and the Sabres would not get in front for second or third chances. When 5'10" Sobotka and 42 yr old Recchi can push you around, you're soft. Other teams know they can get in Ryan Miller's face all night long. When teams play the Sabres don't be surprised when they are pushed around again next year. The point is players play with a little more of an edge when they get a guy who can back them up. We don't have that guy.

I like the Monty Python analogy. The men against the boys. Geez, I've heard that about the Sabres before. :death:

Right ... but again, what does that have to do with enforcers or other fourth-line tough guys? Those players are not that guy, either. Yes, the Sabres are soft. Connolly, Pominville, Roy, Hecht, Stafford, Hecth are soft and play 40+ minutes of every game. Bring in two full lines of enforcers, if you want. All you will see is the TOI for the six I listed go up to 25 minutes each and then the Sabres will still be soft for 50+ minutes of each game. If they don't want to be a soft team, then something has to change at the top (also, on defense, but that's another story.)

I agree with you but I think the enforcer is good to keep the other team honest and to stop the other team from taking to many liberties. If the team is going to be soft we at least need the threat that things will get physical. I'm not saying blow it up but 1 or 2 people who will drop the gloves and keep people honest would be nice.

Ahhhhh, the good old days. Don't we all wish we could have this again???

We have had people willing to drop the gloves, but with the current instigator rule, it doesn't keep anyone honest. I hear George Laraque, arguably the best fighter in the league, is available again; I wonder why that is?

I wouldn't refer to Chris Neil as an "enforcer". He is a tough, pain-in-the-a$$ forward who goes into corners, stands in front of the net...basically, does whatever necessary to win a game. He also eats Buffalo's lunch every time they play Ottawa. We could use a guy like that on each of the Sabres four lines...

I still hate him, by the way.....

Despite being a Mair fan, I do have to admit that not having him in the lineup will make Neil and Ruutu less effective. He just couldn't ignore them.

Headshots would go way down if the instigator rule was repealed. Just my two cents.
