shrader Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 The Enroth piece was interesting, but what people really want to know, right now, is what is happening with personnel moves, including Zherdev, who's been rumored to be heading to the Sabres. Nobody covering the Sabres ever seems to have a scoop on these matters. He can pry all he wants, but he won't get a thing out of the front office. They don't talk about these kind of things. The head to Russia idea might actually be more realistic. :worthy: Honest to God, it blows my mind the way that some folks rag on the most trivial things. We should be happy that Bill posts on this board and not complain just because a guy is trying to make a living. Just HAVE to complain about something! I still can't quite understand what happened over on TSW with Tim Graham - getting so much grief from a few people that he just gave-up. Can't say that I blame him. Giving up is a right of passage for every TSW poster.
nfreeman Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 To be clear, my post wasn't meant as a complaint. It was just a bit of (admittedly unsolicited) advice for Bill -- ie if he were to give us what we really want, we'd be much more inclined to read all of his pieces because we wouldn't want to miss any nuggets regarding possible personnel moves.
tom webster Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I can understand both sides of this argument and I wouldn't want Mr. Hoppe to randomly speculate and thus become a local version of Ecklund, however, this is the second time his response has been puzzling. Who can forget his amazement that no one was reading his story at 1:30 in the morning?
That Aud Smell Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 I'm with T-Web. I didn't understand the tone of Bill's response to nfreeman's post. Sure, freeman's point was a bit of a jab -- but we've all taken (far) worse around here without responding as Bill did. And I'm going to say it: I've blocked the content of members with whom I am unfamiliar for lesser-knee-jerkings of a member whom I respect. I also understand Scott's point -- no mountains out of mole hills.
static70 Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Enroth as the backup makes sense. I believe he is ready and its Darcy's favorite type of player, "Home Grown".

He was correcting a typo in his thread title, not questioning the lack of responses.
BillHoppe Posted July 7, 2010 Author Report Posted July 7, 2010 Amazement no one was reading my story at 1:30 am? What? It's been fun, guys. I'm done. You want Zherdev info? Try finding it yourself then. That info was put out by his own KHL team, I believe. That's all that's out there. Yeah, recently I've been hoping you click on my stories. But I've always tried to answer your questions. It's not about me. I've tried to get you info quickly, etc. I hope you enjoyed it. I'll spend my time somewhere else.

That Aud Smell Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Take a chill pill Bill. That's pretty weak. <_< agreed. riffing on what i said above: just about everyone here has kept coming back to this board after being ripped (far) worse than bill has been ripped here (and, in many instances, after having been ripped for lesser reasons).
nobody Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 READ! READ! READ! Probably would have caused less issue if the line was: PLEASE READ - I need the money!

SwampD Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Not for nothin', but why do expect our team to be more than a bunch of SGMs when the people covering them turn tail and run this easily. Didn't something like this happen over at TSW, as well, over something equally as trivial? If they don't get it from their boss, and they don't get it from the fans, and they don't get if from the reporters directly asking them the questions, then why do we think they are going to give us more when no one is holding them accountable? Bill, grow a set, ask the tough questions, and don't give a flyin' fig what others think of you. We'll only think more highly of you, I guarantee it.

Now I'm not trying to put Bill down by saying this, but all these recent comments make it sound like he's writing for the Wall Street Journal. He's not the face of the world's hockey media, he's still working his way up and isn't supposed to be some hard hitting investigative journalist working to crack whitehouse secrets.
tom webster Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 He explained that one later in the thread. He was correcting a typo in his thread title, not questioning the lack of responses. Sorry. I missed that. Still think he was overly sensitive to Free, but i enjoyed his stories and will still click on them when they seem relevant.
nfreeman Posted July 7, 2010 Report Posted July 7, 2010 Sorry. I missed that. Still think he was overly sensitive to Free, but i enjoyed his stories and will still click on them when they seem relevant. He did seem pretty touchy, innit? Anyway, I also enjoy his stuff generally and hope he cools off and returns. If he doesn't, I know a lot of people here enjoyed his stuff, and I apologize to all for my (instrumental, I must admit) role in chasing him off. That was certainly not my intent.

Just my humble opinion on this one... The post seemed a bit out of character for you. To me it almost read as an attack.
