He is also a kid I can see wearing the 'C' someday.

Based on what? The fact that off ice officials in Anaheim are generous in their interpretation of what "impedes the progress of an opponent" is?

Again you prove that the Regierian philosophy has devoured your better judgment. I know Ryan is such a contrast to what you are used to as a Regierian disciple. It is against your core belief that a player can have more than one attribute. Here is Ryan who has proven he can score at the NHL level, he has proven that he is not shy about tossing his body around which is unheard of in the Sabres "top six" forwards. At 23 he has a great deal of maturing left to do. If his career stays on the same path and baring injury his style of play is exactly what you want from a Captain.

Ryan is a legit NHL top six forward that the Sabres are in short supply of. Ryan's style of play is exactly what this team needs. If you can acquire and at the same time purge pieces of the current core it is a win win for the Sabres.

lol you guys are missing the point. I think Ryan is better than both connolly and Pomminstein, but you can't take away 60 points (that's 60 goals) and expect to get better in the standings.

If you do that trade, you're asking Ennis to make up 60 points in his rookie year. That does not scream reasonable to me.

I don't disagree that Ryan is a very good player although I still want a better skater on Vanek's line. However, you have nothing to base your beleif on his abilities to be a captain. In fact, so far in his career both in the monors and in the NHL he has shown a lack of the traits one woud want in a captain.

I see your point, but I don't think the math is quite that simple. How many more goals will Vanek score if Ryan is on his line? The dynamic changes. Ryan is a solid two-way player, so maybe you win more one-goal games. Too many variables to make your statement.

Exactly. This team lacks the traits that will bring them a Stanley Cup. The Sabres are not getting there with Connolly and Pominville as the core. I say that and I like Pominville. Inserting a Bobby Ryan is a first step in changing over the core.

In that same vein then how many more goals is Pomminstein going to score after a down year? Or maybe Connolly Hits his head and things go right and becomes 05-06 connolly again, I mean, if you're going to say things like variables. Then it can work both ways. What if Ruff changes the lineups and all of a sudden Kaleta nets 20 goals? You know?

Or worse yet. What if we trade for Ryan and he isn't ready to be a top player? You forget Perry and Getzlaf and were the stars for Anaheim last year. Not Ryan.

More last year than this year. I couldn't afford Center Ice this season. This year maybe about 20 not counting the Olympics.

You are absolutely correct. I cannot say that acquiring Ryan would make the planets align. But I can say that in the playoffs, Buffalo's lack of a physical presence hurt them, as well as their inability to score. If I can acquire a player that can do both of those things, I find a way to get it done.

You saw 20 Anaheim games without Center Ice?

Yep. Just because I don't have it doesn't mean others don't. I've also seen a bunch of LA Kings games as well. Frolov would be a solid pickup.

And the first, second, and third pick in the 2011 draft?

YES!!

I'd do it in a heartbeat. The kid is a legitimate power house forward. Something we desparatly need.

I gaurantee Vanek's production would skyrocket as a result.

I guess I'll defer to you but everything I read about Frolov says he is just the kind of player you hate.

Connolly was better this year than in '05-'06, and that's as the 1st line center. So if you mean you want Timmy to get worse then I don't agree, but if you want him to be the third line center then great, I'm on board.

Some of that might have to do with his last name.

You are correct, he is not my ideal player. If he were he would not be available. He has good size I would like to see upfront for the Sabres and he does use his body in the offensive zone, from what I've seen. I think of him as a more productive Kotalik. At the right price he would be a nice addition to the power play.

More than just a shootout specialist?
