BillHoppe Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Click here to read the definitive story on Cody McCormick!
SwampD Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Three threads in under ten hours about a fourth line player. Two by the same person and my post gets deleted. I just can't believe how much Darcy and Lindy have lowered our expectations.

I just can't believe how much Darcy and Lindy have lowered our expectations. I stand and applaud you. There are players out there who play a tough game and can actually play the game. Look at most of the Flyers forwards. Think Recchi running over Kennedy. I'll never understand how Regier got so many fans to believe in the idea that talent and toughness are mutually exclusive.

And I don't mean to get on you, Bill, about this either. I like your work and enjoy reading all of your pieces, but this is exactly what is wrong with the Sabres. Instead of focusing on the top six and why Darcy is so in love with them we get lip service about a guy who only made the NHL because of injury. Don't get me wrong, great piece, but seems a little like some slight of hand. Hey look over here, I'm giving you McCormick, he really tries. Meanwhile, the other hand is shoving it's thumb up my a$$ and stealing my wallet on the way out. It's a far cry from when you were the only guy grilling Lindy about Myers when there was a love fest going on about Hamilton's pants. Sorry I'm so angry buy you are the closest thing to having a voice that we have. On a side note, I agree with TW and think that Kennedy is going to be a better player because of that play. I'm looking forward to watching his progress.
Stoner Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 I'll jump on Bill. I hate to see another sports journalist lured over to the dark side of team PR.
billsrcursed Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 Just so I understand the sudden change in demeanor around here, are we not allowed to be excited about Cody while still wanting a change in the top 6? I feel like I did something wrong by agreeing with this signing.

It's a continuation of the frustration which is building. You don't build a team from the fourth line up. Now, if McCormick was the same style player yet scored 20-25 goals a year that would something to get excited about.

His signing at least confirms Darcy has a pulse. I wnt more but he's an upgrade over Mair, Ellis, Peters or whoever you want to throw out on the 4th line.

shrader Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 It's only $500K so sending him down wouldn't be a problem. Cut a zero off of that figure and you've got the typical AHL contract. So yes, the one-way deal is signficant because the Sabres don't pay that money for a guy to play in the AHL. Unless there's some sort of injury or he's traded, McCormick will be in Buffalo.
FearTheReaper Posted July 3, 2010 Report Posted July 3, 2010 I'm on board. He's the new Mair. He played his arse off in the post.
bunomatic Posted July 4, 2010 Report Posted July 4, 2010 There's nothing wrong with adding some grit to this lineup even if its 4th line grit. Now the challenge is to toughen up the top 6 and add scoring. Not sure if Regiers capable but I guess we'll see.
