Vanek Nation Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/GARTH/THE-NEED-FOR-D/6/28989 This would be a disaster. Don't bring him back, too much money for too long.
inkman Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 As I stated in another thread, only if something better comes along with him. Campbell, Sharp For Connolly, Sekera, Gragnani or Gerbe I'd at least think about it. Adding $4 mill in payroll while addressing both PP QB and improving top 6.

I'm along the same lines although I think I would want something more as well. That is a huge contract for quite a few more years.
Bullwinkle Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Well that's certainly frightening news. I still don't see Campbell back here with that contract. If we want to load up with a heavy contract I'd rather see us go after Briere. The Ducks are shopping Wisniewski - a more affordable choice.
LabattBlue Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Garth(whoever the heck that is) probably spent more time on the Pepperidge Farms joke, than he did on composing the rest of that article. The Staal to Buffalo wish by one of our own has more of a chance of happening than DR taking on Campbell's contract.

And did I mention I would like to see Eric Staal to Buffalo.
spndnchz Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 FWIW, the first round pick we got with Bernier for Campbell and a 7th got us Tyler Ennis. I'd take Campbell back but at that money it limits the team for forwards.

static70 Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Not if you move Vanek. Vanek and Pomminstein for Campbell, Kane and Sharp? :D
Bullwinkle Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Vanek and Pomminstein for Campbell, Kane and Sharp? :D Why not throw Toews in there as well?
static70 Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Why not throw Toews in there as well? ok then, Toews for Connolly and Stafford it is. STANLEY CUP TO BUFFALO..................Here we go :)
spndnchz Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Not if you move Vanek. Nah. I look at it this way: Campbell's got a modified NTC. He can designate 8 teams he would be ok with being traded to. Then Chicago has 45 days to trade him. I would think Buffalo may be one of those teams, but after winning a Stanley Cup with Chicago WTF would want to leave? Vanek is signed with the same cap hit as Brian, yes, but Campbell's contract goes through 2015-16 season as opposed to Vanek's that ends along with Pommer and Ryan's in 2013-2014. The make-up of the team will be much different then, or at least need to be different. Campbell's contract will be much cheaper then, but not now.

That Aud Smell Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Maybe they could move Campbell up to Center. what - and remove the fiction that he's a blueliner?
outlaw16511 Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 Campbell is over-rated. I thought he was horrible in the playoffs. No way does Darcy bring him back. This is the dumbest Garth rumor yet. Darcy didn't want to pay Campbell 5 mil a yr and now he'd be willing to bring him back at 8 mil per season? No way in ######.

This past playoffs with Chicago he wasn't that bad, but not worth the money they are paying him. But man, Soupy is a playoff player, everyone should remember "The Hit".

SwampD Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 As I said earlier, he tied for the league lead in plus/minus during the playoffs. He was throwing his body around pretty good, too. Probably not coincidence.

deluca67 Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 Campbell was not worth $7 million per year then and he is not worth $7 million per year now. Nothing has changed. He is a nice guy and a good player. He's not 5 more years at $7 million good.
Bullwinkle Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 You do remember who our GM is, correct? It's not Darcy who would control that decision, it's Golisano and by extension, Quinn who control the pursestrings. Darcy can only spend what he's allowed to spend.

I'm pretty sure they spend their money unwisely due to not having a plan and making contract decisions by the seat of their pants.
