Rabbit151 Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 i'd really like to know if Regier is connected at all. these gm's get to know each other and work together to do business. like any business, you tend to go back to the people you know and trust. how is it that Horton and Byufglien (sp, whatever) move along seemingly under the radar. like buffalo couldn't have used one of those guys and given up something better or equal to get them.

I'm not sure the Sabres were really after Byfuglien, but they were simply outbid for Horton. Boston held the better cards and were willing to play them. It's that simple.

It's spelled Buttfuglyen.

The question is not Darcy's connectivity with other GMs, it's his lack of sack when working with them that is the issue.
inkman Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 It's spelled Buttfuglyen. Or perhaps should be..
sabrefan39 Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 TSN says Hamhuis and Ribeiro could be available, wonder what it would take to get both.
Bullwinkle Posted June 25, 2010 Author Report Posted June 25, 2010 Riberio is definitely available and is likely to be dealt. I don't think the Flyers have given up on Hamhuis yet...but the clock is ticking.

Bullwinkle Posted June 25, 2010 Author Report Posted June 25, 2010 is Riberio a true #1 center? Probably a nr. 2 center. Also...Martin is going into UFA status, so NJ may go for Souray. Martin may be too expensive for us.

Both are expensive Hamhuis reportedly wants 4.5 per yr. Edmonton could move some players like Hemsky, I like O'sullivan if he came cheap.

Edmonton could move some players like Hemsky, I like O'sullivan if he came cheap. O'Sullivan underperformed this year...badly. I picked him on our fantasy hockey league, expecting him to pop this year and was greatly disappointed.
North Buffalo Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 Hey what about trading Zach Kassian to a Canadian team with a high top10 draft pick? Any thoughts? It could be a relief of his legal troubles and he looks like a bonified NHLer?Throw in Connolly as a dump and why not?
TheChimp Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 So regardless of the disparaging remarks about Darcy, it's obvious that he has offers out there and is trying to improve the team. 1. When you tell the whole hockey world that Derek Roy and Tim Connolly are being shopped, and Draft Day rolls around and you still have both of them on your roster, you're not doing your job as a GM. 2. When the Sabres exited the playoffs, Darcy and Lindy both lamented the lackluster performances of Derek Roy and Tim Connolly. Now, they are both changing their tune and blaming the lack of some magical PP "quarterback", which apparently has to be some defenseman, as the reason we lost to the Bruins in 6 games. Oh, and the fact that Jochen Hecht was hurt. It's unreal how they both continue to poo poo the fact that this team lacks a true number one centerman and Thomas Vanek will be given the shaft until his contract runs out and he can move to a team that knows who to build itself around. Same with Pominville. Darcy needed to be looking to get rid of his two big scapegoats and pick up a number one center. Dallas was the perfect choice, both because of their financial situation and because they have been as stagnant as the Sabres for almost exactly as long and are even TALKING about getting rid of either Ribiero or Richards. The Sabres, if they had a competent GM, wouldn't have wasted everyone's time looking for a shmuck like Kaberle or Horton and instead been on the phones with Dallas looking to make an even swap, our two "top-20 centers" for their one top-ten center, Brad Richards. No doubt in my mind that Dallas would do that deal in a heartbeat. He has four hours to prove me wrong, but once again, Darcy appears poised to make a bullcrap move to appease nobody but the most gullible fans, and yet another season of waiting for the rookies to magically develop into superstars will be upon us.
static70 Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 I don't know that since no one would reveal that information. But we do know an offer is on the table, like it was for Horton. You're never going to get the specifics of failed offers but it's obvious that he's out there trying. And this statement in itself is just more damming evidence of Regiers failure. A GM must find a way to be successful in what he does. His constant failures to land quality players is more of a true meter reading on his abilities, and the excuses, such as he was out bid is pure folly. You offer what is necessary to get the job done.
sabrefan39 Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 D-men Ballard from Fla and Grebeshkov are in the rumor mill, not sure either would be a PP Qb.
Mbossy Posted June 25, 2010 Report Posted June 25, 2010 How 'bout this one: Edmonton is looking at offering up a huge package to the Bruins to get the first and second pick. Seidenberg/Savard?Hemsky?
