apushms Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Any thoughts to the Sabres acquiring Antropov or Kubina are way off base I think. The Sabres haven't carried Russian or E. European players and I think that is by design. Max's neediness (in other words, needing to have other Russian players around him for support) have soured the Sabres on this approach for awhile - I believe. Just my two cents.

While I may not agree on the root cause, I think this holds water. After all the disappointment that went along with Max, Ales, Miro not to mention the abysmal busts in Kryukov and Zagrapan, the Sabres are shying away from that region of the world.

Other than our leading goal scorer, that is.

Take Kotalik out of that group. He was a 6th round draft choice, an absolute home run at that part of the draft. Of course, feel free to completely ignore who was taken 7 picks after him. :D

Darcy is also on record that if you have one Russian, you have to have two.
inkman Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Other than our leading goal scorer, that is. Certainly. He was as sure a thing as you can get at his draft position and he had been in N. America for a while at that point.

IIRC, didn't Kalinin's performance go into free fall when Zhitnik left the Sabres?

Even though the font's tiny, I could make out "The Evil Empire State" on the bottom.
VansTheMans Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Vanek is from Austria, a far cry from Russia.
SwampD Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 Vanek is from Austria, a far cry from Russia. I was just being a smarta$$, but he was born further east than Kotalik.
BamBam Posted June 20, 2010 Author Report Posted June 20, 2010 Many parts of Buffalo would be happy to have Wolski in town. I can see the welcome parade now going down Clinton St.
deluca67 Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 I'm glad that 99% of the trade rumors and speculation doesn't turn out. If so the Bruins would be having a all-time great off-season. Speculation of a Bruins and Flyers deal consisting of Tim Thomas and Simon Gagne makes me nervous. That would be a old fashion hockey trade that helps both teams. Hopefully cap implications will keep that as simply speculation and nothing else.

Thomas would be a typical Philly move in net and unfortunately, because I love himas a player, Gagne is just one concussion away from retirement. Would love for that trade to turn out.
apuszczalowski Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 buffalos team is trash? i disagree Besides Miller, Myers, and maybe a fewe others, yeah, they are trash in the terms that they are guys we are all hoping the Sabres dump and bring in someone else

He would continue the move of recycled goalies going through Philly, and if I were a fan of the Flyers, I would rather go into next year with Leighton and Boucher after the playoffs they had instead of making a move to get Thomas. Sharp or Horton would be great moves for the Sabres if they could do it by sending out some of their underperforming players, but this is Darcy we are talking about, expect more trades of the Lydman caliber, and some Montador type signings

If they get Hamhuis signed they would have a pretty solid blue-line. That would take a lot of pressure of Thomas much like what I would love to see happen here in Buffalo. I know Gagne has had injury problems. A couple of more he would be reaching Connolly status. For a 1 year $5 mill investment? It would a gamble the Bruins should take.

apuszczalowski Posted June 20, 2010 Report Posted June 20, 2010 I think Sharp or Horton would be a good move for the Sabres. Picking up Sharp and Horton would make it great. I know, but its Regier, no way he makes any deal that the fans think would be decent for the team As for Thomas, his one great year looks like it was more of a fluke then the norm for him, so why move picks/players to Boston if the defence is going to be so good when you could stick either of the 2 guys that already looked really good in the playoffs for you that you can get for just signing a contract?
