spndnchz Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 Just had to post a topic with a good headline. But attendance was down by 2 people last year on average. LOL
spndnchz Posted June 15, 2010 Author Report Posted June 15, 2010 If anyone wants a job with the Sabres in PR... http://sabres.nhl.com/v2/ext/pdf/2010-GA-PublicRelations.pdf
Goosed Posted June 15, 2010 Report Posted June 15, 2010 I think Buffalo is the only city in the world where the sports teams can never win a championship and have back to back to back, etc. miserable seasons and attendance of games will remain healthy.
bunomatic Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 Toronto comes to mind. They sell out regardless of how they do in the standings. But then again I'd have to question the sanity of anyone who follows the laughs. :nana:
deluca67 Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 For all the crap about their being no hockey fans down south it's good to see Tampa, Florida and Carolina averaging $15K and Nashville just under at 14,979.
SabresneedaCup Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 i wonder what phoenixes increase was.
Mbossy Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 i wonder what phoenixes increase was. According to the article, Phoenix was down 19% or about 3k. This year might be the test for them. You'd expect an increase off that level after the season they had?
LabattBlue Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 For all the crap about their being no hockey fans down south it's good to see Tampa, Florida and Carolina averaging $15K and Nashville just under at 14,979. Nobody knows except people inside each organization, but how many freebies are going out the door each game? Weren't the Sabres rumored to be "papering the house" during some of the Rigas years? Also, those numbers are tickets sold/given away. If people/businesses with tickets don't show up for the games, it is lost revenue in terms of concessions, souvenirs, parking, etc...
Sabre Dance Posted June 16, 2010 Report Posted June 16, 2010 The Sabres had a few years where the teams were bad and attendance did suffer. Believe me, Buffalo is a very value-oriented area. If people here think they're not getting their money's worth, they will walk. Despite this year's team doing *so well*, most of the time they were as exciting to watch as a turtle race. I'm guessing that this season will tell the tale. If the on-ice product is as lackluster as it has been, attendance will begin to drop. Perhaps this is the sign that LQ and OSP are waiting for before dumping the R & R show and bringing in a GM/coach combo that will shake things up.

The team was also in bankruptcy when that attendance fall happened. The uncertainty around that situation played a major role. Personally, I think that was a much bigger influence on the fans.
