BfloSabresFan Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Yes, I know the Flyers are hated here. No, I would much rather see Kane take it, as he just did!
Eleven Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Yes, I know the Flyers are hated here. F*ck no, Bill. Flyers and Sens are 1 and 1A, in some order, on the public enemy list. Moot now, anyway.
BfloSabresFan Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Loved the "Shout out to Buffalo" from Kane in the post game interview
bunomatic Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Regier should have moved mountains(or a few sabres from the roster) to aquire Kanes rights when that deal could have been made. This team needs a G.M. with some balls.

I agree with the latter statement, but what makes you think that any GM could have gotten Chicago to give up Kane? Ask yourself what "few sabres from the roster" you would have taken to give up his rights. Brian Burke, who made a name for himself moving up pre-lockout, was willing to give up anyone except Luke Schenn last year to move up from the #7 (a position that the Sabres weren't close to when Kane was drafted) last year and he couldn't do it. With the number of super stars that have come through at the #1 (and sometimes #2) spot, teams aren't looking to give up that for three years on the cheap, and possibly more after. It would have been neat to have Kane, but while you can blame Darcy for not calling, I guess, you can't realistically blame him for not getting it done.

As I said in an earlier thread, the Sabres and Chicago did talk. Kane was not a slam dunk as the first pick. Reiger, in a rare show of candor, even admitted that they talked but he convinced himself that it was for the better because of all the pressure that would have been on the kid. The rumor the time was the trade talks were orchestrated by Briere's agent who also happened to be his at the time ( not sure if he still is) as a way to keep both Briere and Drury by trading Roy and Vanek for the pick and something else?
That Aud Smell Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Loved the "Shout out to Buffalo" from Kane in the post game interview as did i. occurs to me this morning that maclean set it up by jokingly calling kane something like the fort erie dangler as he came over for an interview, or something along that line.
bunomatic Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 I think I can blame (sit on his hands)Regier for missing the boat. We need a G.M. that is'nt afraid to make that kind of deal for that kind of player with that kind of potential. The fact that he's hometown seals it for me.
Sabre Dance Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 I have nothing against Briere - he did a great job when he was here and still has some Buffalo connections. Even though I'm not a Kane fan (even if he is from my neighborhood), I was unapologetically thrilled that Chicago won the Cup last night. I have hated the Flyers since...well, I've always hated them (and their fans). I've been an NHL fan since before the Sabres existed, and in those years, Chicago was my favorite team of the "Original Six". The team was mismanaged for years and alienated their fan base and has finally managed to put it all together in a relatively short period of time (Regier? Regier? Anyone?). I was happy to see Hossa finally get a Cup, along with the other 'Hawks. Now, here's the thing.... We've always been told that goaltending wins in the playoffs. So, how come two teams with mediocre goaltenders wind up in the Finals? Of course, it is because the rest of the team played with heart, grit determination and never quit (I hate the Flyers, but I respect the fact that they played their hearts out...) Now, the Sabres have the goaltending all set - they just need to flesh out the rest of the team. Chicago did it....why can't we?(<rhetorical question )
VansTheMans Posted June 10, 2010 Report Posted June 10, 2010 Lost all respect for Patrick Kane last summer. He did not handle the situation well. He never manned up for his mistakes. Yes, I wanted Briere to win the cup more than Kane.

Yes, I wanted Briere to win the cup more than Kane. I don't know what it is, but I just don't like Kane, he seems like a D*ck to me, and I could care less where he is from. Paille is from my home town and I never really liked him much, and from what I have heard from people that went to school with him, he is a D*ck I said it all along that it was a mistake to let Briere walk, and many argued that he wasn't worth the money, but after the playoffs he just had, he proved he is worth it I didn't care who won last night, I had reasons why I would have prefered Philly to win and reasons for wanting Chicago to win. I am a little disapointed to see Hossa get the cup, would have liked to see his next move (maybe ask for a trade this offseason?) to get on a cup team and continue the trend of playing on the losing SCF team
apuszczalowski Posted June 11, 2010 Report Posted June 11, 2010 as did i. occurs to me this morning that maclean set it up by jokingly calling kane something like the fort erie dangler as he came over for an interview, or something along that line. I heard it to and found it was odd that he mentioned Fort Erie about Kane, I didn't think he had any connection to Fort Erie besides that fact that Buffalo is on the other side of the border from it
