deluca67 Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 WGR Report Regier looking to resign Tallinder and Lydman  I tell you a Tim Connolly multi-year extension wont be far behind. Patrick Lalime will remain the backup. And the big off-season addition will be a Steve Montador level free agent. In other words Status Quo is here to stay. :wallbash:
shrader Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 He wanted to bring Spacek back last year, or at least that's what he says. This comment means absolutely nothing.

thesportsbuff Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 He wanted to bring Spacek back last year, or at least that's what he says. This comment means absolutely nothing. Well the difference is Spacek is actually a good defenseman.

They will continue to grow into SC contenders

Why wouldn't the Sabres try and "negotiate" with Lydman and Tallinder? Darcy will low-ball them and hope they sign on for a pretty good Buffalo discount rate where they are more then worth their value, and they will probably reject and that will be that.
bob_sauve28 Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Seeing how they are both good, veteran defenseman I would hope he is trying to keep them. Lydman is a really good player No way either of them stays here

If he gets Lydman and Tallinder back for less than what they played for last year, why not?
SabresneedaCup Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 id keep lydman over tallinder anyday. tallinder is run of the mill.
deluca67 Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 Exactly. If he gets Lydman and Tallinder back for less than what they played for last year, why not? Because they suck!
SabresneedaCup Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Because they suck! haha you think everyone sucks.
tom webster Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Because they suck! Tallinder and Lydman would be very good 3rd and 4th defenseman on any team. If they are able to sign both at reasonable deals it would allow them to include either Butler or Sekera in a deal.
shrader Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 It's the idea that he would be wasting time on it that bothers me most. What else can he do right now?
SwampD Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 I read this quote today from the book Farenheit 451 and immediately thought of the 'blow it up' thread. It seems more appropriate to post it here. 'I hate a Roman named Status Quo!' he said to me. 'Stuff your eyes with wonder,' he said, 'live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories. Ask no guarantees, ask for no security, there never was such an animal. And if there were, it would be related to the great sloth which hangs upside down in a tree all day every day, sleeping its life away. To h e l l with that,' he said, 'shake the tree and knock the great sloth down on his a$$.'

deluca67 Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 What else can he do right now? Making sure his fax machine is working? He should be on the phone every day with as many GM's and Agents discussing the upcoming off-season. Maybe this year he won't be so caught off guard as he has been every other off-season. I don't want a repeat of the dear in the headlights interview where he is shocked at how free agency went. He needs to be prepared so the Sabres aren't caught on the sidelines again picking up useless free agent scraps.

This franchise is as dead as I can remember probably going back to the end of the Bowman Era. Yet today we learn that Lindy will be inducted into the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame. Ain't nobody in Buffalo gonna shake this tree any time soon. C-o-m-f-o-r-t-a-b-l-e.
tom webster Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Not any team that wants to contend for a Stanley Cup. Please. The more you post the less I think you know anything about what wins in this league.
deluca67 Posted June 9, 2010 Author Report Posted June 9, 2010 Please. The more you post the less I think you know anything about what wins in this league. Try watching the Finals some and see where Tallinder and Lydman would fit on those teams. They don't. I know what it takes to win in the NHL. The problem is my knowing it while Regier is clueless doesn't help this team get any closer to a Cup. What wins in this league is talent. You can't acquire talent when you are eating up your cap space with players like Connolly, Tallinder and Lydman. In order to win you can't have a GM afraid of change. Signing his own third rate players because it keeps Regier comfortable is not the way to turn this team into a contender. The fact that he is willing to spend a dollar of cap space on these two is a horrible sign that there are no significant changes to come.
shrader Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 In the last three years Hal Gill has been a major contributor on teams that went to the finals twice and the conference finals once. Hal Gill! Just because this years finalist have strong blue lines doesn't mean that every single contender is that deep.

Hal Gill! Just because this years finalist have strong blue lines doesn't mean that every single contender is that deep. Is it not safe to say those three teams had stronger defensive units as a whole? Pittsburgh definitely did and I would say outside of Myers the Habs defensive group is much better than the Sabres. The problem is you can't pay Tallinder and Lydman and still go out and get a top pair defenseman to play with Myers and still do everything needed to improve the forwards. Not while you still have a Rivet and Montador under contract as well. You are facing the real possibility that this team will have the same ineffective defense they had last year. Myers had a dream season but I wouldn't want to put the pressure on him to carry this squad by himself again this season.

Fans should already know that no major moves are coming. The Kaberle rumor, the talk of signing a center in FA, or any other major moves are merely pipe dreams. Lets all just hope Miller can hold up longer next season, keep you fingers crossed

Billfold100 Posted June 9, 2010 Report Posted June 9, 2010 Because they suck! Right. And everyone thought Richard Smhelik sucked too. I just hate reliable, steady defensemen who play 20+ minutes a night out against the other teams top lines. Career plus (+/-) players who will play 10-15 years in the NHL, not to mention multiple Olympic appearances.
