Sabres sign Biega, talking to Southorn

Hopefully he continues to grow on what he did in rookie cap last year. The reports last year had them very high on his performance. He looked very solid each time I saw him at Harvard, but was lost in a sea of below average players on that team.

I think d4rksabre will agree with me, I thought Jordan Southhorn looked very promising at rookie camp last year. While they may have a lot of warm bodies currently slated for Portland in the back end, I have to imagine some of the fat will get trimmed. (Persson, Kotska, and maybe one more)

I'm not doubting this report, but is there any legit source on it yet? I've talked to someone at Harvard who wasn't even aware of it yet.

Friday signing. Sabres like to announce signings mid-week.

I assumed that was part of it. The Harvard people were out of the office for the weekend so they wouldn't necessarily hear about it right away. It's funny though, a google search brings up a lot of links now, but nothing legit.

Is June 1st the deadline for Southorn and Legace or do they have another year?

It's definitely this year. I'm very curious to see where they go with it. My memory's a bit foggy, but I seem to remember them being high on him out of the rookie camp last year too. I hope I'm not just mixing that up with inkman and a couple other posters liking him. That might just be par for the course around this board lately though.

So many players. IIRC, something like 42 at development camp. Both Southorn and Lagace are 20 before the season starts, both have played their 4 years of Juniors. They could go to Portland if the have contracts. FWIW, Lagace signed an ATO in April with Portland.

I remember Southorn as a big dude, strong on the puck, but not a fast thinker. Crawford (signed this month) is ahead of him in my depth chart.

I am still of the opinion that the organization isn't that high on Lagace although Gogulla's departure might alter that thinking. The ATO was a chance for him to prove himself and unfortunately that didn't last long.

The ATO has no effect on his status with Buffalo though. That was strictly a deal with Portland and the Sabres still have to sign him by June or else lose his rights.

Tom, didn't the Sabres have an ECHL affiliate a few years ago in Bossier City/Shreveport, LA (the Mudbugs)?

IIRC, they had one in South Carolina a few years ago.
