  1. 1. How I feel about this player:

    • 5: Must keep under any circumstances.
      0
    • 4: Would like to keep; would trade only for a great return (if under contract) or would pay a premium to re-sign (if FA).
      2
    • 3: Don't care if he stays or goes; would make a fair trade (if under contract) or pay somewhat above current salary to re-sign (if FA).
      8
    • 2: Don't want him on the team, really; would trade for a somewhat lesser return (if under contract) or sign at current or lower salary (if FA).
      12
    • 1: Get this guy off of the team, no matter what it takes.

I would have voted more like a 3.5, except I wouldn't pay a premium to re-sign him... he wasn't the greatest this year, but he was hindered by injuries and I love that he will stick up for his teammates. Plus, depending on what happens with Loods and Hank, our D might get awfully young in a hurry, and we need a few vets around to mentor them.

Raig Rivet is $3.5 Million albatross around the neck of this franchise. With his $3.5 and Connolly's $4.5 mil the Sabres could go out and sign a actual hockey player this off-season.

At the end of his second season on the team, we find out he's having surgery because he "Played the season injured" - AGAIN!

Trade him if possible(even for a mid round pick). If not, BUY HIM OUT. Surgery on a bum shoulder is not going to allow him to skate faster. I gave him a 1. Along with Connolly, Stafford & Mair, get the ###### off my team!

[edited]I know this has been discussed before and I don't know if Rivet can be bought out because of his injury status.

Captain Cement Skates.

Easily the worst player on the team during the regular season.

He needs to be gone next season. Not because he isn't helping, but because he's a downright liability, and appears to have slowed down Butler's development by a year as well.

I'll give him a 2. I hoping next year he comes around like Hank did. Having shoulder surgery shouldn't affect his conditioning. We've all ridden a bike no-handed.

He shouldn't be paired with Butler, they don't seem to be on the same page at all.

While a don't really want him off the team because he's a vet and sticks up for his 'mates, I would trade for a somewhat lesser return or sign at lower salary.

According to the CBA, a player cannot be bought out if he is injured (while playing for the team, of course.) Dan Cloutier (Kings), David Tanabe (Hurricanes) and Glen Murray (Bruins) have all challenged (actually, the NHLPA filed grievances against) recent buyout attempts on the grounds that they were injured while playing for their teams. Murray was the only one who was unsuccessful. Cloutier's claim went to Federal District Court, where they determined that the Kings had to pay the remainder of his contract. Tanabe ended up settling with the Canes, retiring and taking a three year payout of basically his remaining salary.

Thanks for the info. It was wishful thinking on my part even without the injury. OSP isn't about to approve any contract buyouts.

I want him to stay until he hits UFA, if for no other reason than I wanna see what he looks like after his surgery. Not to mention we will need his veteran leadership on the blueline if and when Tallinder and Lydman are not re-signed.
