SabresRepublic Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 There was a reason for the lockout. And, post lockout the Sabres retooled to play the game like it was intended to be played - aptitude and skill. OK, dude? It really is the tradition started by the original franchise with the French Connection and it fostered a natural competitive environment with Toronto and Montreal - aptitude and skill! International - if you will Olympic, world class hockey - pure energy!!! To be sure, I predicted that we would all be pleasantly surprised with this season - winning the Cup! Unfortunately, mostly due to injury brought upon by mediocre officiating the Sabres were shorthanded to say the least without Vanek, Stafford, Ellis and Kaleta and of course the injuries to Hecht and Connolly which may NOT have been the direct result of mediocre officiating, however, I am NOT sure! When it mattered most we were NOT the same team that could play aptitude and skill with anyone - like we did for a good portion of the regular season - and a Montreal Buffalo Conference Final would have been aptitude and skill hockey heaven! As it is Montreal carries that torch and really NO surprise they are NOT unlike the team the Sabres will put on the ice next season with the invaluable experience achieved by Myers, Kennedy, Ennis, Gerbe, Mancari. Additional good news is that some of the old school officiating has been retired and the NHL knows the spotlight is on ever more brightly to finish the job and bring the officiating quality control up to world class standards. Stay the course Sabres sans mediocrity your excellence - aptitude and skill - are about to be rewarded! GO BUFFALO SABRES!!! And GO MONTREAL CANADIENS!!!
bunomatic Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 One sentence to describe the Sabres of the past few years-My patience is wearing thin.
TheChimp Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 There once was a goalie named Miller....... THAT was some good ######!
Skibum Posted May 21, 2010 Report Posted May 21, 2010 After letting Briere and Drury go, Darcy should have just said screw it and let Vanek go to Edmonton for the four 1st rounders. I bet the results of the last three seasons would have been pretty similar, only there would be $7mil extra per year to throw around and the future would be looking amazingly good. If your team is suddenly thrust into rebuild mode, you might as well do it right. Darcy tried to field a winning team from the ashes of the Briere/Drury/Campbell mess, when he should have taken his lumps and started fresh.

Even if he wasn't the decision-maker.
