  1. 1. How I feel about this player:

    • 5: Must keep under any circumstances.

    • 4: Would like to keep; would trade only for a great return (if under contract) or would pay a premium to re-sign (if FA).
      19
    • 3: Don't care if he stays or goes; would make a fair trade (if under contract) or pay somewhat above current salary to re-sign (if FA).
      3
    • 2: Don't want him on the team, really; would trade for a somewhat lesser return (if under contract) or sign at current or lower salary (if FA).

If the Wings offered Howard and Rafa for Miller, would you take it?

I don't think so... Howard choked towards the end of the series with the Sharks. I'd rather take my chances with Miller.

i voted for a 4. i don't like the idea of there being sacred cows on a team that hasn't done much.

there's a great deal of love and adulation that's been thrown miller's way -- a lot of it justified, but some of it the product of the "miller brand" that has emerged this season (not intentionally on his part, IMO -- it just sort of happened).

more to the point, the ability of other squads to advance into rounds 2 and 3 with goalies that no one really gave a da#n about before the playoffs began has prompted me to revisit the wisdom of identifying and then paying a goalie as a franchise player.

5. duh. Well, maybe 4.78

I actually voted 4... reason being, while Ryan Miller no doubt won the Division for the Sabres this year, a case can be made that he was outplayed by every goalie in the division (but the Leafs-ha ha) in the Playoffs. You add that to the fact that I can't ever recall Miller winning a PLAYOFF SERIES for Buffalo (I mean, him being the primary reason the Sabres won), and he is starting to fall a little into the category of "great player, but the jury is still out if he can lead a team to the promised land"...

And I know this is going to lead to a "Lindy Ruff discussion" (the way Lindy uses him)... but I'm just sayin'

That's why I voted 4, too. Offer me a good, solid NHL staring goalie (not a superstar, but someone who is regarded as very good), and a legitimate playmaker/goalscorer, and I have to think long and hard about that trade.

Hypothetically, if he could be traded for a few great players his NTC/NMC says he can provide a list of 8 teams to which he will not accept a trade to. I wonder what teams would be on his list right now.

I gave Miller a 5. Not even Myers will get a 5 from me. You're going nowhere without great goaltending and if the Sabres traded Miller, who takes over?

I saw this posted on another forum, but would you trade Miller straight up for Mike Richards? Look at all the talent they have on the Flyers and then remember that they snuck into the playoffs on a shootout in game 82. Why? Because their goaltending SUCKS!

Agreed, while Miller is talented, he is not yet of Hasek's ability, he can't quite yet carry the team... I think it is an endurance issue and should get better as he gets older, but he quite wasn't there consistently this year so I voted for a 4.

For a goalie to be a 5, as defined in this poll, in my book he has to be Hasek, Sawchuk, Ken Dryden, Tony Esposito, Jacques Plante, etc. IN THEIR PRIME. Miller simply isn't that level.

The Flyers are the extreme example. They started four different goalies this season. And yet here they are a game away from the Conference Finals. It goes against your point that you need "great goaltending."

I like the idea of trading Miller while his value is high. You pick up a Price and Biron as your goalies and you use that $6 mil for a impact player.

Great players have high trade values because they are great and difficult to find and/or replace. I doubt Crosby and Ovechkin are on the block and IMO, neither should Miller. This team has enough holes to fill w/o adding goaltender to the list.

Come talk to me when they win the Cup.

Not to put words in DeLuca's mouth -- I'm pretty sure he would kick my arse if I did -- but the idea is that Miller's value is higher than it should be or ever will be (The Olympic Fluke Season Theory). I'd swallow pretty hard when using the word "great" to describe Miller or putting him in the same class as Hart winners Ovechkin or Crosby.

Or in Darcy's case, re-sign Drew Stafford.

I think it would be devastating to our city and team if Miller was traded. Besides being a complete class act, he's the only player on the team that gave the Sabres a chance to win every night. He's just about the only player that tried to better himself in the off-season to help his team get to the playoffs. He deserves better, and hopefully it is found on this team. If we trade him we will regret it forever. I wish that insane save on Satan in overtime of game 4 meant something...

Did miller WIN the silver medal or did he LOSE the gold medal? Game six was a must win and he lit up by the Bruins. Miller is a good goalie that had a great season. He's not good enough to put a team on his back and win a Cup.

Miller is probably the only 5 on the team. He is the team basically. I wouldn't trade Miller for anything. However, in fantasy talk, if we could get Ovechkin, and Miller was sent away in the deal, i'd do it.

Might want to add Myers to your list of 5's. That kid's a superstar-in-the-making. Wouldn't it be great to have him AND P.K. Subban in the lineup every night? Subban is playing GREAT hockey in the playoffs for the Habs. I love that kid's game. He and Myers will be rocks for their teams for the next decade.
