  1. 1. How I feel about this player:

    • 5: Must keep under any circumstances.
      2
    • 4: Would like to keep; would trade only for a great return (if under contract) or would pay a premium to re-sign (if FA).
      18
    • 3: Don't care if he stays or goes; would make a fair trade (if under contract) or pay somewhat above current salary to re-sign (if FA).
      17
    • 2: Don't want him on the team, really; would trade for a somewhat lesser return (if under contract) or sign at current or lower salary (if FA).
      6
    • 1: Get this guy off of the team, no matter what it takes.

i know he's overpaid. and i know he's got no physical edge to his game.

but i continue to think that the guy can be an important piece of a productive, solid top-6. he's proven that he knows how to get open and then put the biscuit in the basket. he can also play in all situations.

plus, this:

(sorry, i never miss an opportunity to revisit that moment. never, ever, ever.)

He's a 3, except for the part about paying slightly more to keep him. He is a good player, defensively sound, can play in any situation and can put the puck in the net, but he is badly overpaid. Flies under the radar for the most part, but spent a little time in Ruff's dog house in the latter third of the season and responded well. Needs a legit captain in the room to hold him accountable for his play.

+1 and my vote as well.

I cant stand the guy. Part of this is because he is paid top line dollars for 2nd tier production. Part of it is because i dont like his game, he has no edge. He under-utilizes his hard shot, and it maddens me.

Personally, I feel he over-utilizes his hard shot, taking slappers when he feels pressure. He has a wicked wrister that has made him by far the most effective Sabre in the shootout since Al left. You rarely see him use it elsewhere, though.

Jason is very skilled and a really nice guy. Unfortunately, those two are the best and worst things about him on the ice. He's be a great player in a no-checking league.

One of the few players I really can't complain about. I like him on a line with Hecht, but they need a center.

True that Pominville is good when he have a good center like when he use to have briere with him

Can't stand him either, for all the above reasons, but also because he has failed to take on a leaders role on the team, just like the rest of "the core".

Well, he did have career highs in assists (53) and points (80) without Briere (in fact, mostly with Jochen Hecth as his center in 2007-08) and his point production the past two seasons has been roughly what is was with Briere.

Absolutely refuses to play physical. The garbage point maker - secondary assists.

The typical Pominville game:

Skate down the boards - Take a 35mph slapshot right into the goalie's chest.

Skate around the end boards and chew on your mouth guard.

Skate down the boards - Take a 35mph slapshot right into the goalie's glove.

Skate around the end boards and chew on your mouth guard.

Skate down the boards - Take a 35mph slapshot right into the goalie's..... "oh wait he missed it. It's a goal!"

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Pominville isn't very physical and yes he is overpaid, but last night I watched a much bigger player(Malkin) avoid physical contact last night in a Game 7 like it was the plague.

Let's face it, players who can or are willing to "do it all" are not that easy to find.

Looking at Pominville, Stafford, Roy, Connolly and Vanek aka the FAB 5, I'd still throw Connolly, Stafford and maybe even Roy to the curb before dumping Pominville.

If his typical game includes scoring a goal, does it matter how he scores it?

Since you nitpick every damned post on this board, I will gladly take a swing at one comment, and put it over the wall. "Really nice guy." You have no idea if that's true. If you know him well, then I retract my comment.

Miroslav Satan made a career out of his 40 goal season full of late goals in blowouts (on both ends) and empty-netters, so yeah, it does matter. I can remember a few game winners off Pominville's stick...

OK, throw in a "seems like a" before that. Better?

Not when; how. Does it matter how he scores it? Does anyone care that Hecht gets 20+ "garbage" goals, as long as he's getting 20+ goals. Whether they are at meaningful times of a game is a different discussion.

I'll save that for the #55 discussion, which I will be well prepared for...

He really is a nice guy. Has the finish of Brad May but a nice guy indeed.

Since he got his payday he has gone downhill. Maybe the back of his sweater should read Massengil

I believe his new contract kicked in this past season and to be honest, I don't think his play this past year is that much different from the two or three prior to that. All player stats are down from the post lockout season and Pominville is no exception.

To be more accurate with this assesment 2 or 3 of theses shots would have missed the net completely.

Another beauty. Pominville's ability to score goals is on par with Brad May?

Remember when Brad May was on a line with LaFontaine and Patty would set him up with kick-ins shift after shift and May would miss the net, hit the goalie, fall down, etc? It was a light reference to Pominville's ability to miss on good scoring opportunities. I realize he's a better scorer than May.
