That goes both ways. Doesn't the play of the core, which was handsomely rewarded with long term contracts, argue in favor of Golisano's philosophy? No wonder he just threw up his hands and moved to Florida.

Some of them, yes. The one year thing is an absolutely beautiful idea, but so is world peace.

Ruff just said there was nothing wrong with Connolly physically, and that he had time to get in condition.

Remember when LQ yanked the hairpiece off of Art Wander? I am looking forward to Barney getting the same treatment.

Which is probably why this was the one game this series that he actually won battles along the boards.

Unfortunately, he had the major brain fart and took the killer penalty to start the 2nd. While I've seen a lot worse let go in this series (and in this game), you can't make that play and give the ref a chance to make that weak call. That was horribly dumb by Timmy. (Much like on McCormick's ridiculous goaltender interference call, he should never have put himself in the position to have the call go against him w/ a 2 goal lead against a team that has so much problems scoring goals.)

Already done. Press ctrl-F5 if you're still seeing Barney.

While it kills me that Ziro was the Sabre killer this year, he wasn't on the 1st crack at it in either game that he killed 'em. Ziro tried to let them off the hook, but they just wouldn't take the reprieve.

And you are right, there is NO WAY Ziro would ever be accepted on this squad.

You are 100% right. No way this squad would except a player that would score big goals in some big games.

I have to ask. Why would anyone care what this "squad" thought about anything?

This guy is the most frustrating player imaginable. He gets injured for 2/3 of the games in his 3 year contract, somehow manages to get a 50% pay upgrade on his new contract, and once again fades into non-existence when it counts. I'm tired of him not playing or being around when the team needs him. He was the absolute worst player during the entire series, and somehow managed to one-up himself for game 6. Of course its the, "Tim isn't 100%" excuse again. Get this guy off my team.

I couldn't agree more....If he is hurt then he should not have played.....Why does Thomas get the You have to play your ###### of speech but poor Timmy is allowed to half ###### it and suck wind......I mean com'on dump this bum and Stafford......Torres......Montador and Lalime....make way for Mcormick....Ennis..gerbe and webber

He moved to Florida because of NY's ridiculous income taxes.

He took responsibility for his failure in the post game interviews. Nice to see that he was man enough to take the blame, but actions speak louder than words, and he did poorly in this series.

Stop kidding yourself.

At the time of the trade, Torres was a gritty, 20-goal scorer who had been a leader on an Edmonton team that went to the cup final. We were sitting for crying for grit and experience, and that's exactly what we got. Darcy made the trade to make this team better this year. We gave up a 7th defenseman who would never see the ice and a draft pick. On paper, the trade was the right call. Too bad it didn't pan out, but you can't blame Darcy for that.

Meanwhile, Miro has coasted his entire career. He's made his fortune off of meaningless goals and has never taken a leadership role on any team. True, he scored a few goals this series, but they were on wide open nets on glorious opportunities. If Darcy had signed Miro, there'd have been a riot downtown--he's exactly what you don't want going into the postseason.

Of course not, lets blame Lindy instead cause he couldn't make him play better. Darcy keeps signing/trading for top notch talent that Lindy keeps screwing up and holding back.

Sure, on paper the Torres deal sounded good, but they don't play it on paper, and its just another name in the long list of trade deadline blunders for regier in the last 5+ years. Has he made a deal at the deadline that has actually inproved the team and made them better on the ice (not on paper)? Bernier, Moore, Torres..........

Dude, let it go. It's Lindy, too.

I hated the Tim Connolly signing as much as anyone here but I can see why they resigned him. Prior to Connolly's major concussion in the Ottawa series in 05-06 he actually had performed well in the playoffs. It appears that after that injury, however, he has lost the mindset necessary to compete in the playoffs.

I don't have a problem with his energy in this series due to his coming off a foot injury. However, I think that he has lost the willingness to sacrifice his body, especially when it comes to playing north to south hockey in the offensive zone. For the sake of being fair to Tim, I know I don't think I could bring the same intensity to the ice if I had been forced out of most daily activity due to headaches, nausea, sensitivity to light, and constant fatigue. However, that should have been spotted from his regular season play after the injury. That willingness to lay your body on the line and go into the crowded areas on the ice for goals is something that, in my opinion, the coach and the GM should have commiserated on prior to resigning him. To me, the advantage of having the longest tenured GM-coach combination should be that they know each other well enough, and have been around long enough, to recognize together that guys like Tim Connolly do not get it done in the playoffs.

Stood around watching all series, when he wasn't giving the puck away at fear of contact that is.

The worst player on the team along with Stafford.

Inexcusable, and he needs to be held accountable for this.

But this is the Sabres - The franchise where the word "accountable" makes people burst into uncontrollable laughter.

Connolly led the team in scoring in the regular season. Other GMs will want him. Lots.

Then he should be easy to get rid of, huh?

I never ever want to see him in a Sabres uniform again.

We can only hope ... while we pray. Hard.

These were, by and large, close games. With even a marginal performance on special teams, we could've pulled this series out. That said, I find it hard to believe that there are a lot of observers who would've watched this team and felt as though it would go much further. We're not in the post-lockout season anymore - it's going to take some corner-digging, net-crashing, garbage goals, and veteran leadership to go the distance in these playoffs - in addition to solid goaltending (which I do think we generally had).

Raffi Torres was, on paper, not a bad addition. The fact that he ended up on the bench at the time when he was supposed to be paying dividends is a question the organization needs to answer. He's not the first guy to change into a Sabres uniform and then wither up and die when it counts. I don't blame Darcy for Torres (though someone or something IS to blame for his decline), but I do blame Darcy for ONLY Torres. It's all but obvious the team was dreadfully short in the heart/leadership category, yet that's all he did. He gambled on a Miller miracle, or that Connolly/Roy/Pominville would uncharacteristically suddenly rip their jersey off, Clark Kent style, and magically take charge - especially after Vanek goes down (eh ... uh oh! Plan B anyone?) I sense Grier and the youngsters did their best to fill the gaping leadership hole, but that just wasn't going to be enough. When the bell rang, Timmy&Friends dutifully offered up all of the heart and determination of a popcorn fart.

The thing is they do not award the cup after the regular season.....The sabres need to make a statment and eat the 4.7 million on this bum..That is right you purse carrying woman named Connolly ( actually I know most woman in Buffalo have more balls than this loser) do the right thing and quit......Here is a novel idea....say there is 20,000 sabres fans and we all send in 235$ to Galisano......ask for connolly to be cut.....and we pay for the salary......for next season.... the other condition is Regeir and Quinn are gone as well.... give Ruff one year with new management and allow him to bring in his sort of players...Tom is a cheap ###### so I doubt he would agree....He has been cashing in on this franchise ever since buying it from the crook. Time. Put our money where our mouth is....Maybe we should buy a billboard telling Connolly and Stafford where to go...I mean seriously I doubt we'd miss either player! Boston new Tim was gutless and pressured him every time...did you notice the respect young Ennis got! The differenc ein powerplay for Buffalo was Timmy! Your a bum nuff said!

We've already paid a price as fans for having to put up with that.

Hi,

I've never posted here before but have been an avid reader of the forum. Connolly's terrible play has prompted me to chime in on the discussion.

He needs to be traded. On paper he does have some value. I can see some desparate GM's going after him. To use an NBA term he is an expiring contract.

Examples trades:

1) NYR - needing a center to feed Gaborik. Maybe Connolly for a 2nd round pick/Girardi/Callahan.

2) Calgary - same thing for Iginla

3) Colorado - They have a lot of young players plus a goalie who they need to pay. That makes Statsny at 6.6 mill until 2015 a big problem. Maybe Connolly/Gerbe/1st round pick for Statsny?

Statsny and Vanek while each aren't speed demons seem to be a good fit.

If you spend 15 minutes on nhlscap.com you can create a bunch of possible trades. I hope Regier/ownership make it happen.
