BillHoppe Posted April 26, 2010 Author Report Posted April 26, 2010 Here's some Lindy on him ... All indications point to where he’s playing. He didn’t knock on my door, either. There’s only one person that knows how he feels, and that’s Thomas. It’s the type of injury, it’s like a groin injury that doctor can’t rub it, he can’t stretch it. The player has to say, ‘I feel good on the ice. I can go all-out. I can sprint. I can stop.’ … Thomas is the only one that can tell me, ‘I’m healthy. I can play. I feel good enough to play now. I don’t have any pain pushing off. I can stop and start.’ Even the doctor can’t diagnose that for us. It’s in Thomas hands. Like a lot of injuries when they get down to the very end, the only decision I can make is whether I think his conditioning would be enough to get him through a game, and I think it will be. He indicated yesterday that he felt he was ready to play.
Campy Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Barring something major, Vanek's in. Hopefully his hot hand hasn't cooled too much.
static70 Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 The media has been reporting he had a very noticable limp after practice. I don't honestly know if Vanek's in or not, but if he's not 100% I don't want him in these last critical games. He may have hands, but this game is going to require defense as well. Can he back check at full speed, and if he sacrifices to do so, does this put him at risk to sit some other games out by aggrevating the injury and not letting it heal as fast as possible?
waldo Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 lindy better not break up that ennis /gerbe pp pairing. this game may turn on a pp .
nucci Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 lindy better not break up that ennis /gerbe pp pairing. this game may turn on a pp . Right, because our PP is clicking right now.
Mbossy Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 lindy better not break up that ennis /gerbe pp pairing. this game may turn on a pp . Right, because our PP is clicking right now. The second PP unit was clicking pretty good. They got shots and IMO had the Bruins dizzied by the speed they were tossing the puck around. Now do you put TV on the second unit or first?
elcrusho Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 He doesn't have to play the entire game... Go out for a shift, see how it feels.... Save your energy for the PP, go out and score a goal
darksabre Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 the nice part about ankle/foot injuries is that it doesn't have to be completely better to be able to play on. The boot often provides enough support that you don't even notice you're hurting until you take it off.
nfreeman Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Good for Vanek for playing hurt. I bet he brings it tonight. Tommy: when in doubt -- SHOOT!! Go Sabres.
Buffalo Wings Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I'm just waiting for one or two of the Bruins to take a whack at either ankle (presuming that's where the problem really is) while he's standing in the crease.
Claude_Verret Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I'd rather have a hobbled Vanek than Drew "Caspar Milquetoast" Stafford any day, if I may borrow a Roby-ism. Let's Go Buffalo!
eball Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Right, because our PP is clicking right now. Well played.
nucci Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Is this a shot at Ruff? Read where Vanek says,"Is it worth it to play those seven to nine minutes? http://www.buffalonews.com/2010/04/25/1031064/sabres-notebook-ruff-waiting-to.html

I took it to mean that may be all he (Thomas) is capable of providing.
nucci Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Not the way I read it. I took it to mean that may be all he (Thomas) is capable of providing. Ok,That makes more sense. Thanks.
SabresFanInRochester Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Ok,That makes more sense. Thanks. I took it the way you originally did. It sounded like Vanek wanted to play a whole game and for some reason Ruff is only giving him limited duty. Vanek's reaction was, is it worth it to play so few minutes. I don't know why Ruff would keep his leading scoring off the ice if Vanek really wanted to play. Then again, wasn't Ruff going to turn Vanek into the best two-way player in the league. We really don't know why that project fell apart, but maybe there's still something that carried over.

nucci Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I remember when Perreault and then Martin were drafted. Punch told them both not to worry about defense. Your job is to score goals. Vanek should be told the same thing.
mrm33064 Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 If poster 'R_dudly' would kindly loan that legendary, miraculous headband to Vanek - truly spectacular things may happen. The Nazis ransacked nations for it, the Chinese mystics traversed mountains for it, the monks of Nepal bow in its presence ... the Dudley Headband is absolute power incarnate.
