MAYDAYGOAL Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 New to the board. Great stuff guys. Looking for some help o nthe TV thing (living in ATL). if I buy the Sports Pack on Directv (which comes with MSG), will that get me the MSG feed for Sabres games (specifically tonights game)? or do I have to buy the Center Ice Package? Hate to spend $79 on Center Ice if they bow out tonight.... (Note: I've been watching at a sports bar for non-VS games so far but can't leave the house tonight)

So I don't think the Sports Pack will do you any good. You'll need CI. Hope I'm not steering you wrong; sometimes I can't wrap my head around these TV issues. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, as always. :)
Mbossy Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Tonight's game is on CBC and NESN too. Do you get that?

(Note: I've been watching at a sports bar for non-VS games so far but can't leave the house tonight) The only thing the Sports Pack will buy you in relation to the Sabres is the ability to watch the post-game show (theoretically, because they often don't block that out anyway if you have Center Ice). Other than that, you HAVE to buy Center Ice to get MSG, UNLESS you live in the Buffalo area. I am pretty sure (not 100% since I don't live in WNY anymore) that MSG (channels 638 and 638-1) will come with "regular" TV packages from DirecTV. The Sports Pack will give you most of the channels in the 600's. But I think Buffalo residents get MSG (and only MSG of these stations) as part of regular packages. If I'm wrong about that, buying the Sports Pack WILL get you access to channel 638 without having to buy Center Ice. Center Ice is only needed to watch games out of your TV market. I just noticed you live in Atlanta. That means you MUST buy Center Ice... Sports Pack won't do it. It will say "channel not purchased" during the Sabres games.
Campy Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Tonight's game is on CBC and NESN too. Do you get that? The games are blacked-out on the local/regional sports channels (MASN, NESN, MSG, etc). If you have CI you can then watch the game feed. IMO, the sports pack isn't worth it now that Empire is gone.
Skibum Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 I tried the sports pack once before. NHL games are blacked out outside their local area, so you will only see the Sabres when they play the Thrashers, which you could probably do with basic cable in your area anyway. Better to go with Center Ice.

elcrusho Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Buy me an HD Slingbox and I'll hook it up to my TV for you.... then you can watch all the Sabres games you want
buffaloaggie Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 You can also buy a single day's worth of games at NHL.com for $19.95. Can you? I only saw a $19.95 monthly installment payment. It looks like you can sign up for Gamecenter live, and then cancel before 5 days are up.
MAYDAYGOAL Posted April 26, 2010 Author Report Posted April 26, 2010 Thanks everyone for the input. I knew adding the SP for $12/month was too good to be true. I too ran across the $19.95/day rate at NHL.com and think I'll go with that. It drives me nuts that they charge $79 for CI.
