Captainkirk001 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 I had to work tonight, so I missed the game. I heard that there was some action at the end involving Charro, Can someone tell me what happened? I cant stand that big goon...
Crestwood Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Off the faceoff, Gaustad lightly "slashed" Chara on the back of the leg after the puck was cleared out of the Sabres' zone. Chara took exception, turned around and just started throwing punches at anyone and everyone and ended up on his back on the ice thanks to Gaustad and McCormack. Entertaining, to say the least. Miller even got in on the action since Boston had pulled Rask and had a 6-5 advantage.

Crestwood Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 ROFL Miller almost started swinging. ROFL indeed — Lindy was about to jump onto the ice himself.
EdwardSauve Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Chara got an Instigator penalty. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that means he sits out the next game, no? Unless the penalty is mysteriously rescinded by the league's front office.
Healthy Scratch Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 my understanding is that he is automatically suspended for 1 game, subject to override by the League: 47.22 Fines and Suspensions – Instigator in Final Five Minutes of Regulation Time (or Anytime in Overtime) - A player or goalkeeper who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at anytime in overtime, shall automatically be suspended for one game. The Director of Hockey Operations will review every such incident and may rescind the suspension based on a number of criteria. The criteria for the review shall include, but not limited to, the score, previous incidents, etc. The length of suspension will double for each subsequent offense. This suspension shall be served in addition to any other automatic suspensions a player may incur for an accumulation of three or more instigator penalties.
rickshaw Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Guaranteed, the NHL finds a way to let Chara off the hook for this. I wonder if they'll let Kaleta off the hook for the apparent 10 min misconduct he took when chest bumping Chara a minute before. I have to wonder about Chara sometimes. He is really like a huge baby out there. Kaleta gets in his face and the ref throws out Kaleta, while Chara looks to the Zebra for help. Man up Chara. I know Myers looks up to Chara, but I hope he never turns out like him as far as the whiner factor comes into it. Chara is such a friggin whiner. Play the game. He should be suspended but he won't be. Kaleta's 10 min misconduct should be reversed, but it won't be. Great game by Buffalo tonight.
quikchomp Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Chara's suspension has been repealed. Unbelievable.
SabresRepublic Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Chara's suspension has been repealed. Unbelievable. Provide a link with official source?
Bmwolf21 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Provide a link with official source? No official word from the NHL that I've found, but there's this: http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nhl/news/story?id=5131588 The Buffalo Sabres wanted Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara suspended for Game 6 in Boston on Monday for an incident that occurred in the final seconds of Game 5 at HSBC Arena Friday night. The NHL reviewed the situation, however, and informed the Bruins as they were en route back to Boston that there would be no suspenson, a team spokesman told ESPNBoston.com.
Tyrannustyrannus Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 of course not, the NHL has no credibility when it comes to their own policy. Guaranteed, if it were Kaleta, Mair, or Gaustad it would not be reversed. Did the Bruins even have to ask, or did the League take care of the big market on their own? Disgusting.
bunomatic Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 No doubt Jeremy Jacobs put a call into his flunky Gary Buttman and demanded Chara not be suspended regardless of the rule.Pathetic
TheChimp Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Check out this article written by some Chowderhead: Waiter, can I have some regional bias with that? Excerpt: "....Chara was violently slashed by Buffalo energy center Paul Gaustad, something that the Sabres pivot admitted after the fact -- in the waning seconds of the third period, and immediately began throwing punches at the Buffalo offender. Sabres tough guy Cody McCormick jumped in as the third man and three different Sabres players tackled Chara to the ice as things quickly devolved into a line-brawl even goalie Ryan Miller joined...."
Corp000085 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 I'm almost always able to side with the NHL, or at least have peace with subjective rulings like boarding, roughing, etc. But, if the rule plainly states that you are automatically suspended for a game for an instigator in the last 5 minutes of the game, and one buffalo guy gets an instigator penalty with a minute to go and one boston guy gets an instigator with 5 seconds to go, hmmm. Both are suspended. Black and white. I'll be happy trading kaleta for Chara. Unfortunately, the NHL is still a bush league joke and both will play. Now, I'm happy that Kaleta didn't get suspended, and i'm actually happy in the end that Chara didn't. Now that Buffalo seems to be in his head a little, hopefully he will fold like a cheap deck of cards, as he has always done under pressure.
TheMatrix31 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 I'm glad this playoff series will not be marred with suspensions. However, I don't see anything in the scenario which occurred that would tell the NHL, "Hey, maybe we should override the automatic one game suspension."

If the whole rule was printed you would know that a suspension is only forthcoming if the intent of Chara was "to send a message." Clearly he wasn't. His actions were in direct reaction to Gaustad's slash and thus no suspension is warranted. The Sabres know this but you can't blame them for trying.

I'm glad that's the rule because I didn't see anything at the end of that game that said someone should be suspended. You have to give the emotions of playoff hockey a little leeway. I still can't stop laughing at Miller asking the ref if it's okay that he has Satan in a headlock.
Corp000085 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Thanks for clarifying Tom. I guess I'm not too upset. I'd rather beat Boston on Monday by beating Chara than a Charaless team. This incident puts some more sizzle on the series.
SwampD Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 I almost forgot about this until I watched it again this morning. Recchi is a punk. I was really respecting his game and the way he has been playing in this series, until last night. The fight had died down a little and Miller is all by himself along the boards and Recchi goes up to him and grabs his neck and tries to start up with him. Gutless move.

You know, after Boychuk took Vanek out with a "hockey play" in Game 2, I wondered what it took for Boston fans to consider a slash "violent." Well, now we know (and knowing is half the battle!). I've seen love taps get more violent than what Gaustad did to Chara.

In the video from this^ link it looks like GAUSTAD doesn't even connect with CHARA's leg. What BS is it saying that CHARA wasn't trying to send a message, bending the rules in Boston's favor. I had to laugh at the remark from Bruins coach Claude Julien saying that he believes there's clearly been a refereeing imbalance in calls during the series. I agree 100%, in favor of the Bruins.
SabresneedaCup Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 i hope charazard gets his face ripped off next game
