theend Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 It's not just the win it's the effort. They won game one and I was concerned. Tonight was the Sabres "best case scenario" as far as all around effort. What I am hoping, as I am sure others are as well, is that tonight represents the "switch" being turned on. There was a sense of self sacrifice I have been pining to see for a long time. How can any player watch Mike Grier take a slap shot off the head and shake it off and not completely sell out physically. At one point they flashed a stat where the Sabres blocked 12 shots to the Bruins 3. If this team is ready to sell out? Bring on the Pens. +1 - Great analysis.

This board is much nicer to be around after a win that reflects the effort.
TheMatrix31 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Hate that I had to miss this one (was at work + not on TV so I could record it) but obviously I'm thrilled with the result. Now let's go to Boston, sidestep any BS officiating, and kick some ###### to bring it home for Game 7.
nobody Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 This board is so much nicer to be around after a win. That's just because PA must have fallen asleep.
Stoner Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 great game tonight! glad to see the pirates stepping in/up. hopefully it keeps the 'core' on their toes. IS ANYONE GOING TO START A DISCUSSION ABOUT MILLER AND HIS 'PORNSTACHE" VS. SATAN?! It definitely isn't a playoff beard.... I wonder if he ever gets any arugula in that stache.
Crestwood Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 That's just because PA must have fallen asleep. No, he's just mulling reasons for Lindy to still be fired. Oohp! There he is!
Stoner Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Oh, Claude, you and your mind games. Just like the rest of the series, "we'll be blamed for starting it." Uhhhh … Julien looks a little rattled for the first time in the series.

I wonder what Noureen thinks of the pornstache …
Crestwood Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Julien looks a little rattled for the first time in the series. He did! A little lost for answers, indeed. Trying to blame anyone (no one?) for his team's failure to show up tonight.
Stoner Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Suspension for Chara? According to NHL rule 47.22: "A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five minutes or at any time in overtime shall be suspended for one game, pending a review of the incident. The director of hockey operations will review every such incident and may rescind the suspension based on a number of criteria. The criteria for the review shall include, but not be limited to, the score, previous incidents, etc. ..." http://sports.espn.g...news?id=4220529

biodork Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Wow you are psychic, PA -- they just made the same point on the postgame show.

Expressed concerned that Chara needed to back off or he'll wind up suspended.

I have a feeling Chara will get off for the same reason Malkin did -- they'll say Chara was just responding to Gaustad rather than picking a random fight. Oh well, another chance Monday for someone to rearrange his ugly mug, now that he's got the cage off.

Chief Enabler Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 The NHL sure has a way with words. Goose slashed, he'll get off. I wont hold my breath :bag: decision tonight though, huh?
McJeff215 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Goose slashed, he'll get off. I wont hold my breath :bag: decision tonight though, huh? Of course, the Bruins blogs I've checked out say just the opposite, "You KNOW Z will get the suspension as to boost ratings with a game 7 in Buffalo." I tend to think he doesn't get it due to the aforementioned slash. Was Goose called for that?
deluca67 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 A rule that allows for Colon Campbell's "discretion?" Why not take someone with mental disabilities and place two blocks that say yes and no and base it upon which one he shoves in his mouth? Colon Campbell isn't qualified to decide between paper or plastic. Campbell is to the NHL front offices what Dick Jauron was to NFL head coaches. A nice guy that happens to be a bumbling idiot at his job.
deluca67 Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 Goose slashed, he'll get off. I wont hold my breath :bag: decision tonight though, huh? Where is the rule that states players with visors can't start fights? Or something like that.

Not sure - they said on the postgame there were several penalties handed out at the end that weren't announced, but most were roughing calls for the fight. Goose might've gotten one, though.
SwampD Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 I like how Miller didn't think twice about leaving the net at the end. The funniest part though was while he was giving Satan the business he's asking the ref if it's okay because they have their goalie pulled and the ref says yes. I've never used this before but I really was LMAO.
R_Dudley Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 great game tonight! glad to see the pirates stepping in/up. hopefully it keeps the 'core' on their toes. IS ANYONE GOING TO START A DISCUSSION ABOUT MILLER AND HIS 'PORNSTACHE" VS. SATAN?![/i] It definitely isn't a playoff beard.... +1 You beat me to that one, I noticed he shaved right away and guess he decided to do something different so went with the Stache, would have been nice if he got the SO with it, bet it stays this way till loses again. Tonight was a effort that the players, coaches and fans should be proud of. They showed they were the better team. This could be the Sabres defining playoff moment. I have little doubt that this effort will carry into game Six. I just heard Miller say the Bruins had just seen the Sabres best game. He is 100% correct. The Bruins and their fans should be really concerned. I woke this morning feeling the season was over. Seeing how this team responded I feel there is plenty of hockey left to be played. Yes sir. I second that sentiment. It's not just the win it's the effort. They won game one and I was concerned. Tonight was the Sabres "best case scenario" as far as all around effort. What I am hoping, as I am sure others are as well, is that tonight represents the "switch" being turned on. There was a sense of self sacrifice I have been pining to see for a long time. Absolutely and at the risk of sounding a little self promoting I will say I was the first one to post some positives on this in the thread this morning. Boston is the older team and did look tired tonight and I like that we made them skate the 200 feet many times tonight and also out hit them. Buffalo needs to keep this recipe going because Boston knows they cannot match this style of speed and puck control. I also like that the kids appear to have caught up to the game and do not appear to be playing scared which I still wish a few more veterans would catch that attitude. All and all a solid win and game. Something you can build on with a young team which these guy's are and were still alive and learning how to win in the playoff's. Perfect experience for this team to grow on. Go Sabres
