ThePebble19 Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 In the last two games Rask has made the key saves at key times while miller hasn't. Not saying miller has been bad, but the goals are very untimely. I don't even know if that is really the case. I think that they have both let in some crappy goals, and they both have made some unbelievable saves. They have been the best two goaltenders in the playoffs thus far. IMO, the players in front of Rask are not giving up the opportunities that the Sabres have been in their own zone. The shots we are putting on Rask are most often right into his pads or chest. I can only think of 3 or 4 saves where Rask really put on a show. Other than that, it has been a barrage of shots right in his breadbasket.

Miller and Rask have been slightly above average, but Miller is letting in too many soft ones and Rask hasn't been challenged enough. IMO, the top 2 goalies in the playoffs so far have been Anderson and Niemi.
ThePebble19 Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 The players in front of Rask also collapse like the 05/ 06 sabres. Remember that? When the team wanted to block every shot with their faces? Yep, sure do. It was a great time. I made a comment to my Father during the game tonight, there were about 4 or 5 chances we had when the game was tied where we got the puck in their zone, in the slot, and either carried it out, or tried to pass it to the corner and it was taken away...Why can't we just fire a lazy backhander at the net in those situations? Or just a quick snap shot? Nothing bad can happen when you get the puck towards the net. It still seems like they are all looking for one more pass, or someone else to take the lead, and take the shot...
matter2003 Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 I didn't say that I don't/won't care - I absolutely will watch every second that I can until the season is over, whether that be Friday (scary thought) or in June - but I'm saying that what they are doing right now won't cut it when they get to a real opponent. It's not even cutting it now, but Boston is not playing nearly as well as some of the other teams that I've watched. Boston is playing pretty much as good as they are capable of playing. The Sabres are just falling into the trap of allowing Boston's defensive style of play to dictate what they are going/want to do instead of trying to dictate the play to them(similar to what they did in the 1st period of game 2). Frustrating to continuously watch these guys try and stickhandle thru 4 Boston players at the blueline instead of just dumping the puck in. Sabres can play much better, but where have Connolly and Roy gone? I think Sabres win game 4 and go home with momentum, but Boston just isn't that good of a team and they are going to need to play a lot better to beat whoever they play in round 2 if they advance... Miller has been good, but nowhere near as good as some of the other goalies who have been playing out of their mind(Craig Anderson anyone)...
Eleven Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 I am way too pissed off and tired to read through it all. Pardon me if it's been said: 1. Connolly, get a heart or go somewhere else. 2. Stafford, just go somewhere else, you floating, purse-wearing POS. Why the ###### you played tonight, when there are call-ups and people called Mancari, and even Gerbe, available, is beyond me. ######, shrader is in Boston; I'd rather see him dress. You are a horrible player and a wretched human being. If Dante had another chance, there would be a tenth level just for you. 3. Lindy, please, you had the opportunity to put a goal-scorer in Vanek's place. His name is Raffi Torres. DO IT NEXT GAME FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD. 4. Rivet wanted to kick someone's ###### tonight. His name was Johnny Boychuk. Please, again, Lindy, put Rivet out when lil' whiner/dirty player Johnny is out next game. 5. I really have no problem with the way most of the defensemen played. 6. Then again, the forwards: stop playing with it and shoot it. Good Lord, it's not Roy's sausage, it's a freaking puck. Don't play with it; shoot it. How many times do I have to look at a Sabre collect and control a rebound rather than blast it at the net? Do we think pretty goals are going to go by Rask? It's not Varmalov, it's Rask. Put the f*cking thing on net. How many times do I have to watch a Sabre forward screw around with the puck in his own end? The blue line is really, really wide. Get it across. Not that hard. 7. Loved the physical play. I really did. The Sabres are smaller, but they didn't play timid at all. I just wanted to see someone kick lil' whiner Johnny's ######. 2. H-e-l-l, both times. 4. a-s-s. 7. same as 4. Are these really bad words?
FearTheReaper Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Why not loosen the reins a bit if your Ruff and go for a more offensive approach, instead of playing the battle of D?

I thought they got Raffi to give him a period shot and then send him to waste away on the 4th line? Oh wait thats exactly what happened. I was calling for that after i seen Grier out there with Roy. Rivet will bring it if its there!
SwampD Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 You would expect a team to win their playoff home opener. 2 to 1 is a pretty good game and it took everything Boston had to give to get it. I think Buff wins the next game and then it's anyone's series. I really miss Hecht. I still miss Gerbe's jump. Gray Could is, well,..

FearTheReaper Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Im indifferent. I'm just stating how the small the margin is between these 2 teams . With Hecht in, we own them.
FearTheReaper Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Imagine how pissed Raffi is getting one period to prove himself, and then rotting on the 3rd and 4th lines for weeks. He probably cant wait to sign out of the city.
bunomatic Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 No one seems to be willing to admit that Rask has outplayed Miller. Its Rask that looks like the calm veteran. That being said, our powerplay ineptness is also killing us slowly. The B's are'nt afraid of our powerplay which allows them the freedom to take chances with their agressive style. And to add to that the refs are letting them play which has'nt helped us because our forwards are mostly of the small variety. How many times did you see our forwards bounce of the Bruins after attempting a hit?
FearTheReaper Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 How many times did you see our forwards bounce of the Bruins after attempting a hit? Or getting out muscled in open ice?!
bunomatic Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 Torres will be a leaf next year helping keep the sabres from the playoffs.

This is a weird Sabres team. They either can't find any open ice, or it's a 7-1 blowout. I see them lighting up Rask next game to build our expectations.
FearTheReaper Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 If Raffi actually was in game shape maybe he'd get off the 4th line. Why doesn't he show something? PTR I just think he deserves a chance. Doesn't every player? He was brought here for a reason, and it wasn't to waste away down there.

Kristian Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 So we're gonna not care to advance because its an inevitability that we'll be eliminated in the next round? Am I reading right? People are desperate for change in the organisation. Change of personnel, change of mindset, change of heart, anything. Some people feel the earlier the season ends, the greater the chance of changes being made.

A LW Power Forward (for the second line) A leading Defenseman (a gritty top 4 dman) A new associate coach (Brian needs to go, i think hes one reason behind PP futility) I would add an offensive dman, but i think Myers can take care of that.

Lindy needs to start changing up his strategies. Or system constantly allows the Bruins to clog up the neutral zone, or forecheck the living bejezus out of us, because it involves five players down low. How often tonight did we see two defensemen in our zone practically standing still with the puck, while the Bruins retreated? We have no breakout plays, whatsoever. Lindy's being out-coached in this one.

Eleven Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 You lost me when you referred to Torres as a goal scorer. He's just not. On the day he was traded to Buffalo, didn't he have more goals than any other Sabre?
