Ima90sJezus Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 I'm living in the Buffalo area and I just switched to DirecTV, what do I have to order in order to get the MSG feed, what channel will it show up on. I ordered the "Sports Pack" but, MSG doesn't come in - what am I doing wrong?

Ima90sJezus Posted April 12, 2010 Author Report Posted April 12, 2010 Channel 638 is SD and Channel 638-1 is HD (Home only) Enjoy!! Follow up question - Should there be any programming on this channel right now? All I get is a DirecTV logo on the channel and in the Guide it states "To Be Announced" for as far as I can go into the future... Also, do I need the "Sports Package" in order to receive MSG or is there another way?

FYI, if you do NOT get the channel in question, DTV ususally blacks the screen out with a message in the bottom right hand portion of the screen with a statement like " channel not suscribed to" or something like this. If you actually get the channel but nothing is showing at the time, you get the blue DTV logo screen.

I live in some kind of lawless, ungoverned region between Buffalo and Pittsburgh, so my situation might be different, but I don't need the Sports Pack to get MSG. MSG is considered one of my local channels. Look into if further; you'll probably be able to save some money by dropping the Sports Pack.

Cereal Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Related post - I thought there was another TV thread around here, but couldn't find it. Will those of us NOT in BUF area, with Center Ice, be able to see the game? Versus says it'll have MTL@WAS here in VA. nhl.com says CBC and NESN and MSG. Center Ice channels give me nothing, as does http://www.indemand.com/sports/nhl/ Thanks!

(Well I have Versus too, so I don't think I'll get boned.) If anyone knows what channel CI it'll be on that would be helpful, as I need to DVR the First period or so.

I live in Dallas and watch every game on Center Ice (or VS / NHL network if they are picking up the game). MSG is channel 638 (SD) and Channel 638-1 is HD.

Bruins vs Sabres Game 1: NHLCI on DTV will be 770/771 (SD) and 770-1/771-1 (HD)

plenzmd1 Posted April 15, 2010 Report Posted April 15, 2010 Sabres feed guaranteed to be on 638 or 638-1 those get turned on during the game. Not to belabor this point, but for those not in Buffalo, to get those channels you need the Sports Pack.Sometimes I actually like to listen to the others team announcers, (usually after Harry spouts his 13th meaningless stat in 5 minutes or some other asinine thing), but just cannot stomach Edwards. I like a lot of the other crews, but he is just the absolute worst. Now if the Sabres go up big, may tune into NESN just to hear him whine how the Bruins got hosed and the Sabres and their fans are all child abusers

I am not going to get into the 638-1 HD out of town discussion in this thread, since that issue has been resolved. It's also been consistent, as far as I can tell, that the home team feed in the 770's is the higher number of the two feeds. Bruins AT Sabres on 770-1 and 771-1. 771-1 should be MSG. I am recording both just to make sure I get what I WANT!

However, if you want the postgame show you need to have the Sportspack as well since that is not included as part of the NHL Center Ice package.

If you have sports pack u do get the postgame till it ends Sometimes, though, we get lucky and someone in the DTV office forgets to kill the feed and we get the postgame. Also, sometimes the picture freezes but we continue to get the postgame audio. Last time that happened, we had the "Yancey's Fancy" logo on the screen because the picture froze on their commercial, but the audio continued.

red Posted April 16, 2010 Report Posted April 16, 2010 The channels are only "active" when the Sabres play. If you have Sports Pack, then you get MSG and MSG + also. I am a NHL Center Ice subscriber, but because of my past 5 years of loyalty to DirecTV (I have only been loyal because they are the only ones to carry the Bills out of region) I'm getting 3 months of the 'Sports Package'. So let me get this straight: the NHL does not see fit to charge extra for HD service, but DirecTV does? MSG-HD is extra, no? I question the legality of this. Particularly with the Sunday Ticket. My argument is that both Fox and CBS broadcast games in HD for the local market NFL game. To see these games, you have to pay an extra premium for the service ($10/month) along with the cost of the receiver rental ($6/month). On top of that, DirecTV then forces you to buy that ridiculous 'Super Fan' (I call it Stupid Fan) of an extra $100/season ON TOP OF the already high cost of Sunday Ticket to see the NFL in HD. How can they take a game being broadcast in HD by the broadcaster, but make you pay more for it?

How can they take a game being broadcast in HD by the broadcaster, but make you pay more for it? Let's simplify this: If you're in Buffalo territory, you don't need SportsPack to watch either the game itself OR the postgame if you have the Choice package or higher If you're out of market and a NHL Center Ice subscriber you can watch the Sabres games either on 638 and 638-1 (assuming you pay the HD fee) If you're out of market and have SportsPack you can watch the postgame show (and the postgame show in HD if you pay the HD fee) There is one price for NHL Center Ice and it includes both SD and HD broadcasts. MSG-HD does not cost extra beyond the regular $10 fee The NFL Sunday Ticket is the only package where HD is not included as long as you have HD Access on your account.
