deluca67 Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Just the fact that a guy took the puck 30 feet with his head down and didn't pass it makes him deserving of the hit. Once again....Sutton is 8 inches taller. He actually dips his shoulder of you look. I can't wait for all the whiners here to get going for the 1PM game. "Ooh...poor Patty.....why did Lucic hit him?.....doesn't he know he has stitches?....that's a suspension!" I am fully convinced this board is made up of 85% white collar paper pushers that are too used to going to their daughters' soccer games. Being taller is not a excuse for hitting him with a elbow to the head. I bang the drum for the Sabres adding toughness loader than anyone. There is nothing tough about a cheap shot to the head. If fact, it is probably the most cowardly play in hockey.
deluca67 Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 I don't like the hit. 100% of the blow is to the head. It is not a body check. Why not just get low and hipcheck him? As for Sutton in the interview. He made himself look like a complete fool. Just once it would be nice to have a reporter go back at the guy. It would have been great to see the scrub ask Sutton if he was having trouble answering a yes or no question? What's Sutton gonna do, body check the reporter in the face with his elbow? He'll wait until the reporter turns away first to blindside him.

Just got home from the club, rinsed off the Rover and decanted the first Cos d'Estournel of the day. Heading downstairs to the pub for the game

I agree that he deserved to get hit. It was the way he got hit that I don't agree with.
Buffalo Wings Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 I've watched the replay countless times and Suttons elbow clearly makes contact with the head. That makes it elbowing and a head shot.Does'nt matter who is shorter or if the players head was down, the hitter has to take some responsibility if the recieving player is in a vulnerable position.Thats how the league explained the situation in the weeks leading up to the playoffs. The problem is that this league could'nt enforce the rules in a game of jenga. And the rules seem to change in the playoffs which has always been laughable. Agreed, but for now, there's no reason for the hitter to take accountability. Everyone is just taking pot shots these days and getting away with it. When they penalize Sutton or Matt Cooke or someone who makes a hit like that that doesn't injure the "victim", only then will players get the message.
inkman Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 My shirts don't have collars. My shirts don't have sleeves. :-)

You have to extend the elbow in order for it to be elbowing. It looks to me like his arm is tucked, so it isn't an elbow. I don't think that many people actually understand the elbowing call. You can hit someone with an elbow all you want. What you can't do is extend your arm and lead with the elbow. If you come in square for a hit with your arm down, sometimes the elbow is going to be the point of contact. It happens and it's legal. Now, whether or not he's gunning for his head is a completely different question.

Ghost of Dwight Drane Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Of course, the toughest people of all are message board chest thumpers... Chest thumping by saying that Sutton's hit was clean? I guess Mike Peca was the most dispicable player in the history of hockey. If I wanted to watch soccer....I'd watch soccer
shrader Posted April 17, 2010 Report Posted April 17, 2010 Thank You! If Stafford wasn't KO'd, nobody would even care. What's the connection with Stafford? I missed that game. Was that hit Sutton too? All I'm talking about was his hit yesterday on Leopold.

deluca67 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Anyone watching the Caps-Habs? I was not thrilled with the Sabres letting Spacek go and bringing in Rivet. Spacek still has some game left and Rivet's career seems to have ended two years ago.
DaFan Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Anyone watching the Caps-Habs? of course...nothing like playoff hockey
matter2003 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Washington is gonna get swept playing the way they are...Habs whooping that booty... At least Sabres are tied 1-1
notwoz Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 of course...nothing like playoff hockey Didn't see any chatter for a while -- and I was chastised the other night for not following protocol (whatever that might be, Emily Post and Miss Manners don't address message boards). I'm thinking that the Caps better get their collective head out of you-know-where, because they are being thoroughly outplayed by the Habs. It seems that the Caps think they can just mail it in.
notwoz Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Gomez and Poti were just in a pretty lame fight -- but whatever you have to do
matter2003 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 I love Ovechkin's passion for the game...
notwoz Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 Ouch -- Caps come back from three goals down, and Montreal gets the lead back.
ThePebble19 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 John Carlson....with a goal almost identical of the one he scored in the world juniors....ties it up... OT again. This game has been unbelievable.
Claude_Verret Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 WTF is up with the Sabres "fan" with the slug jersey sitting behind the Montreal goal jumping for joy when the Caps tied it up?
deluca67 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 WTF is up with the Sabres "fan" with the slug jersey sitting behind the Montreal goal jumping for joy when the Caps tied it up? Maybe he is a NHL fan that is enjoying quality hockey? Some hockey fans own jerseys from many teams.
matter2003 Posted April 18, 2010 Report Posted April 18, 2010 This game has been unbelievable. Yes it has...
