wjag Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 Forgot mention another positive. Miller sets career high for victories with last night's win.
SwampD Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 Lola, now that I have a moment, let me explain calmly why your take is just wrong from a hockey player's perspective. Buffalo and Ottawa are fierce rivals, and they are both fighting for a divison title. At the Olympic break, Ottawa was ahead, but in the end Buffalo emerged victorious. Ottawa lost. Then, to add to that, last night, on Daniel A. night, the Sabres came into Ottawa's house and smoked them 5-2, just to remind them who was the winner of the division. To analogize, I just beat out my bitter rival for a job we both wanted. Then, just because I could, I went over to his house and f'd his wife on their anniversary. And his Barney Fife response was to vomit on my shoes. That's what you saw last night, and if you think that makes Ottawa/Barney the tough guy, I don't think you understand how hockey works from a "sack" perspective. It's kind of a Sean Connery thing--so maybe your hermaphroditic self does not get that. Now that's funny. I'm critical of the Sabres often, justifiably so. There is absolutely no reason to criticize last nights performance. Sunday's'all right as well.

Unfortunately your analogy is only complete if you and Barney are contractors and with your recent victory he has now fallen to 25-7-4 when competing for the same jobs with you since 05-06. You may have just nailed his wife on their anniversary but your wife has a Barney-shaped groove worn in her.
deluca67 Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 I know what it means, I just don't see how it applies to such a meaningless game. You think if they wheeled out Stafford after the game and had someone point his hand at the scoreboard, the Senators wouldn't laugh? They would point at Buffalo's balls, which they still have in a jar. Ottawa took liberties all night and the Sabres had little to say about it as usual. That will be far more important if the teams meet in the playoffs than this hollow win. I'm surprised there isn't more outcry about it, but then again I'm not. Maybe DeLuca will come in and inject some sanity into this madness. Sorry for the delay! A Ottawa Senator took out Drew Stafford and another tried to end Thomas Vanek's season? And no one cares? The Sens are land locked into their playoff position and they played like it. The took shots at the Sabres and the Sabres did their usual nothing in response. But I am sure they have about a dozen excuses why they didn't just like many on this board will have for them. Does anyone here think the Sens cared at all about "the scoreboard?" They are laughing in their locker room estimating the size of the welt and bruise on Vanek's ankle. I'm sure they are referring to Drew Stafford as Drew Connolly. I said it in the first period. it was obvious the Sens were just interested in punking the Sabres tonight. They did their job well. It would have been a nice suprise for Sabres fans for this team to finally stand up for it's self heading into the playoffs. They better hope they don't play the Bruins. The Bruins have the size to punk the Sabres as the Sens did and their goaltending has been as good as the Sabres have been getting. The Sabres have yet to prove they have the will to play the physical and intense style needed for a playoff run. Last night was a physical challenge they failed miserably, again. Hopefully for all Sabres fans this team can find it's set of balls before Game One no matter who it is against.

Barney firing blanks would have made it better though.
ReneRobert Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 I guess you were delayed last night because you were spending the evening inhabiting the minds of Ottawa players so you can tell us exactly what they think.... <_< "Failed miserably?" They kept their cool, and crushed the Sens 5-2. All that aside, I have to ask, what would you have had the Sabres do? The Stafford hit let to a major scrum, which looked like a response to me. Should someone have gone headhunting after the Vanek slash? I think him schooling the goalie on the Penalty Shot was a pretty nice in your face. I have no idea whether the Sabres will win the Cup. I rather think not, because life is a dark valley of misery and pain where everything ends in tears. But I fail to see how looking for misery in a victory does any good. I guess my therapist gives different advice than yours. Sorry for the delay! A Ottawa Senator took out Drew Stafford and another tried to end Thomas Vanek's season? And no one cares? It continues to shock and amaze me how this team's apathy is rampant through the fan base. Like Stafford or not, clean hit or not, you can't just let teams take out your players. They had a 4-1 lead. Why not take the same liberties as the Sens were taking? Spezza and Alfredson are easy targets. I hadn't seen a play like the Vanek slash since Hunter took out Turgeon. And his teammates do nothing? I'm not sure which is worse. This team refusing to defend it's self or the so called fans who don't care if other teams try to take out their best players. It certainly is a sad state of affairs. Maybe that is why the arena is so quiet. Fans just don't have the passion for the game they claim to have. Buffalo is Hockey Town? I think not.

Looking at that replay, I think Vanek was doing a little bit of acting there. Sutton hits him basically on the blade and immediately after Vanek does his little bobble, he doesn't wince or show any kind of pain. A puck to the foot will end a season. While awfully painful, I doubt a stick to the foot would.

They answer on the scoreboard. They got even by ruining alfies night. As for your comment about the fans. As usual you are out of touch. How many games have you attended? Been a pretty good atmosphere at the ones I attended. Let's see how many fans are in the plaza for the playoff games? Or the Tv ratings for non sabres games in the playoffs. This is a hockey town! I feel sorry for you.

News had a story yesterday about a pretty significant drop-off in TV ratings for Sabres games. Sabres officials were suspicious of the numbers -- were they suspicious of the numbers when the numbers were high? LQ and Company ignore these warning signs at their peril.

I rather think not, because life is a dark valley of misery and pain where everything ends in tears. But I fail to see how looking for misery in a victory does any good. I guess my therapist gives different advice than yours. It's not looking for misery! I enjoyed most parts of last night's win. It's looking for reality. Say a team wins 6-5 but they allow four power-play goals and the goalie is a sieve. Is pointing out the problem areas "looking for misery"? To me, a huge problem area is the lack of sack. "Scoreboard!" meant almost nothing last night and the Sens knew it. This problem comes directly from behind the bench. I believe the Sabres players possess the heart to do something about it.

Your own example shows how you are looking for misery, my brother. They did not win 6-5, the defense and PK was far from a sieve, and they played mentally tough to win a game they could have coasted through. I am not expecting to change your mind on Lindy or anything else, but you should allow yourself to enjoy something... sometime. Really.

I am not expecting to change your mind on Lindy or anything else, but you should allow yourself to enjoy something... sometime. Really. One more time... I enjoyed the win, but it wasn't such a monumental occasion that I could overlook a deficiency every bit as important as your goaltender, special teams etc. Namely, Lindy Ruff game in and game out allowing his team to be physically owned by the Senators. It's bad enough that fans would be thinking "Scoreboard" or "Ruin Alfie's night," but please God don't tell me Lindy was thinking that way. Are they so desperate to beat Ottawa they can't stand up for themselves? If not last night, when?

Great, you feel sorry for me but no emotion when someone tries to break Vanek's ankle. What does that say about you as a fan? This is a passionate hockey town? Just saying it doesn't make it true. Just look at the make up of most of the posters here. Apathetic and passionless, a true representation of the fan base. If Alfredson was on a break and Butler took a swing at his legs like what happened last night there would have been a riot in the arena. Fans in the plaza? Are they serving Beer? Nice weather and a reason to get drunk outside is a Buffalo thing not a hockey fan thing. Do you think people show up for Thursday In The Square are music fans? You can hide behind the scoreboard like the Sabres hide behind their excuses. There is no acceptable excuse fro allowing your teammate to take a shot like that to his legs and not respond. There is even less acceptable for any Sabres fan not to be upset by what transpired last night. Stafford got knocked out of the game and the Sens tried their best to take Vanek out for the season. If you believe that wining a game that meant nothing to the Sens is any type of retribution? It is you and others like you who are out of touch?
SwampD Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 Weak. So very weak. Why? When was the last time the Sabres held Spezza and Allffrreddssonnn pointless? In the past 2 years I'm sure these two teams have played other "meaninless" games and yet those two still scored in them. Also, in the past, how many times have we seen the Sabres NOT win games like this, games the should win? Today you chose misery. That's fine. Today I chose to laugh at your misery.
