Calvin Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Im going to celebrate even if it is a Tuesday night lol i hear you.. tonight i am going to celebrate and not think anything of the future coming up very soon at the beginning of this season i had not even dreamed this would be possible.. so for now i will enjoy this pleasant surprise. here's to the Sabres.. congratulations to the Sabres players, coaching staff, backroom staff and anyone else associated with the team.. and to every single one of you fans.. YAY!
BuffalOhio Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Good job boys. Just realize this - you're not done yet!
tasker48b Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 The Division title is a pleasant surprise. Any pre-season gurus peg the Sabres to win the NE? Also, more points than the (defending Stanley Cup Champ) Penguins @ game 79 of the season. Who'd have thunk it? Looking forward to the playoffs. I'm optimistic - nobody is talking about the Sabres, they get no respect (e.g. "everyone is gunning to finish sixth to play Buffalo" or whatever that was from HNIC), they don't have any big-name forwards, but yet .... Miller gives them a chance every night and if the team can find a way to score 3 goals on a given night I like their chances of securing a W. Here's hoping Vanek-Connolly-Kaleta recover soon.

The preseason predictions weren't as dire as I would have thought considering the gaggle that pisses and moans with every drop of the puck, every game, for 82 games, ad nauseam...

And it's ALL your fault, Scott. You did this to us! Thanks, by the way!
Doohicksie Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 ...and with the Penguin loss, the Sabres have the second place conference finish in their grasp. They are a point ahead of the Penguins, a point behind the Devils, but if they win their last three games, including beating the Devils in regulation, they finish second.

Let's have that prediction thread resurrected, please. I think I wrote that the Sabres would challenge for a playoff spot, with the Bruins winning the NE. Happy to be wrong.
HurlyBurly51 Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Glad to hear that some people can enjoy the success of our team, especially when it was not expected. Even when expectations are surpassed, the miserable still find something to bitch and moan about.
Eleven Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 At the very least, a blue banner will hang next year. Here's to hoping for a white one.
JujuFish Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Division champs and control their own destiny in regards to #2 seed as well, since their finale is against NJ.

Ok, ok. Mea Culpa (but not all the time)... But, hey. Some whine and complain waaaaaaaaaaaaay more than I do. BTW, I went to the Anchor Bar and Grill to pick up some wings tonight before the game. Someone had the nerve to yell, "Let's Go Rangers" in the midst of a sea of Sabres jerseys. I could hear a pin drop. First thought that came to my mind was, "Dude, you're in the wrong place to be saying that."

I don't remember my exact words, but I probably said somthing about competing for spots 6-10.

Typical NY fan - trying to rile up the opposition's masses on their turf just because he can. Even if nobody said anything, he got what was coming to him by the end of the game.

bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Good job guys now lets go deep into the playoffs
eball Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Surprising stat to me, at least at first blush -- this is only the 6th division championship in franchise history. 6/39 = 15%. After thinking about it a bit, though, it makes more sense. The Sabres have been saddled with Montreal, Boston, Quebec, and more recently, Ottawa, in their division. Tough competition for that division crown. Makes accomplishing the feat a little more satisfying, knowing it's somewhat of a rarity. :)

The Sabres have been a franchise under three owners that has done just enough to sell hope to its fan base.

The Sabres have only missed the playoffs 11 times in 40 years. That means that almost half of their playoff misses happened when Lindy was the coach. :nana:
deluca67 Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Re-watching the highlights on NHL.com, have the Sabres started growing their playoff beards?
Stoner Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Re-watching the highlights on NHL.com, have the Sabres started growing their playoff beards? Paging Ghost, lavender courtesy phone, paging Ghost... I heard the guys on WGR this morning talking about how they were growing their playoff beards. How ridiculous. Players only, I would think.

Of the 33 seasons the Sabres played where they did not win the division, here's a breakdown of which division rivals did win it and how many they won: Boston: 15 Montreal: 7 Ottawa: 4 Pittsburgh: 3 Quebec/Colorado: 2 Toronto: 1 Hartford/Carolina: 1
inkman Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 I'm shocked that someone from Buffalo went to the Anchor Bar for wings... Word.
