eball Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Of course...everyone has to express their fandom--and the frustrations that go with it--in their own way. It's just that defeatists get old after a while. Think of the irony. They want a team that will walk through walls to win--which I agree with--but they dribble down their leg at every whiff of adversity. But ces't la vie. It's worse than that, though. Even wins are met with "but they didn't do it THIS way..." Pretty miserable existence, if you ask me.

I'm complaining about seeing THE SAME adversity over and over with no plan to overcome that adversity other than "hoping it'll be different this time." Here's some sunshine. I don't care who we play in the first round, even Ottawa, We are going to win.
Calvin Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 Now for all the naysayers and truthsayers and others who think they have this team pegged down right - what have you done about getting your message to the team? I'm pretty certain no one in the organization spends any time on this board. When we like the product we see on ice, we show it by going to more games, buying tickets and merchandise, and watching them on TV etc when we can't be at games. Those who are disgusted about this team.. what have you done lately apart from write your messages on this board? I'm just curious

I am excited about playoff hockey being back in Buffalo even if we get kicked in the first round. Looking forward to next year. A few tweaks and this team can be a REAL contender. Speaking for myself, I have done nothing, nor do I think I should have. I really do not like the style of this team whatsoever. Count me as a Ryan Miller fan for calling them "fragile little kids". Echoes my sentiment a lot. But does that mean Ryan Miller does not like the Buffalo Sabres? Of course not. Do I not like them? Are you kidding me? I haven't stopped watching since the 1st game in 1970. I think the Sabres deserve my support. I think Lindy Ruff is doing a decent job with what he gets. I don't think Quinn knows hockey, but I think he's trying. I think Darcy is smarter than he gets credit for. Due to all these things, I'm not going to be writing angry letters or canceling season tickets. But do I like the 2009-2010 Sabres? As of now, I can't say I do. Do I hope they prove me wrong? You have no idea.

You have no idea. You bring up some good points there NT. I absolutely concur that we should not blindly agree with whatever the team does. And neither is canceling season tickets the appropriate response to disagreeing with current management. At the end of the day as fans we want to win the Stanley Cup, and that only happens by getting to the playoffs first. Hopefully the management has the same goal in mind. Wouldn't it be fair to the team for us fans to celebrate the successes, and equally mourn the failures? There was a thread at the beginning of the season, the gist of which pretty much went that most people on this board would be perfectly satisfied with winning the Cup with a No-Goal kind of goal. That being the case, can we celebrate unconditionally being in the playoffs and (maybe) winning the division tonight, no matter how ugly it has been?

ntjacks79 Posted April 6, 2010 Report Posted April 6, 2010 That being the case, can we celebrate unconditionally being in the playoffs and (maybe) winning the division tonight, no matter how ugly it has been? Yes. Concur. My son is using my tickets tonight and we both want nothing more... and would celebrate wildly. And then, on Sunday when we have a chance to clinch 2nd place against New Jersey and the Sabres are saying after the game "I can't understand why we gave no effort", I'll be back to reality.
wjag Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 I think talk of second in the conference is very overly optimistic. I mean really with the division title on the line, they already knew Ottawa had lost; and look at the performance against Montreal. Ya wer'e in the playoffs but does any one think for minute that this team is seriously going to kick it into high gear. I'm sorry but there is none, go for the throat, killer instinct here at all. seven games in 11 nites and 16? in 30. March has been fantastic as a fan but probably brutal as a player/coach. They had no legs. Lola, I had partial season tickets in the Sabres first season in 1970--beautiful grays in the Aud-- so this has nothing to do with new/old. But if you are going to be so negative all the time, what's the point in living. Most teams end up losing in the playoffs--indeed, all but one. If you can't enjoy now, then you'll enjoy nothing. That's OK, because being unhappy seems to give you pleasure. I don't feel that way--if that's a "culture war" so be it. But it's not much of a "culture war"--more of a personality clash-- you should have been in Florida in December 2000 working for Gore if you want to feel a culture war ... DD My sentiments exactly. To be honest, I think if anyone is overrated, look at Washington. Sure they have Ovechkin, but look at their division, is it any wonder they have 114 points. That division is absolutely pathetic. Washington is in for a reality check once they get past the first round. I'm not saying the Caps are terrible by any means, but put them in the NE or Atlantic and they are definitely not sitting pretty as President's Cup winners. The Sabres should do fine once the playoffs start, I don't know if they'll win in the first round, but I doubt we see performances like the last two games. Could not disagree more. Washington is mowing down everyone, including a 6-3 win in Pit last night. They are the real deal. If they have a weakness, it's goaltending. But they have enough offense to make it through. Do u think if u say it over and over again that'll it'll be considered true by someone outside of ur home? The arena atmosphere this year was a bit under years past. But to call it the quietest building in the league? Please. More booing this season than any in recent memory? But we're one of the quietest buildings? Do people boo in "quiet mode"? The only thing that should be disconnected is ur life support system. Ur getting annoying and making this board un-enjoyable. The last few games (with playoffs clinched) at the arena were awesome, loud, exciting, fun games. Lindy's given them a plan of how to play, and he's held them accountable to it. I went to three games there this year including the opening night shootout loss to Montreal. It was a tomb. Glad to hear they are picking it up. I have also been to Washington, Dallas and Flordia this year. Even Florida was louder than Buffalo. Could not disagree more that the Sabres would be fighting for the division lead right now if Pittsburgh or Washington were in their division... say nothing of what it would be like if out West. But maybe I'm wrong... who knows. I do know that this edition of the Sabres absolutely infuriates me (and I know I'm not alone) because of its soft mentality and poor offensive skills. I actually enjoyed myself going to the arena more in pre-lockout days. I knew the Sabres were no good, but didn't despise half the forwards like I do now, and question the effort almost every night. Again, just me. But of course it's nice to be in the Playoffs - I'm just looking for one of two things... a team I like - or a team that can win the Cup, even if I don't like the players/style. I'm not sure we have either right now. I wouldn't watch if I was infuriated. That's gonna cut your life short. Why do u still watch or follow the Sabres then? I've been asking that question since last year. Far be it me to get this thread back on track but looking at the standings, it's almost certainly going to be Philly, Bahhston or Mo-ray-all. Hmmm...I have a reason to avoid all of them. I guess I'd pick the least of all evils and go with Philly. Okay so maybe that's siding with evil but their goaltending is weak link and that usually equals a quick exit from the playoffs. It has to be Philly. Montreal and Boston both have goaltenders that will give the Sabres fits. What get's old is the Sunshine and Kittens crew telling us not to talk about our team the way we want to. I'm not hemmin' and hawin' at every whiff of adversity. Must stay away from Ottawa, that is kryptonite to the Sabres Offense, Defense and Goaltending.

Yes! I don't know how this crept into the culture, that there's something wrong with a man who has a cat. I have a cat! (And I had a pony as a youth!) And there's nothing wrong with me. Oh, wait... Yeah, there is. Cats are far superior to dogs.
SwampD Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 There are only two kinds of cats - kicking and throwing.

EasternOHSabresFan Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 I would much rather face either the Phlyers or Bruins than the Habs. Yes, the Sabres have beaten Moe-ray-all 4 times this year, but the Habs play them VERY tough and I want nothing to do with them. The Habs are a little faster than the Sabres overall and Halak isn't a slouch. The Sabres won't beat them in less than 6, and I could see Moe-ray-all winning in 5 or 6. A 7 game series probably goes to the Sabres. The Sabres lost to Montreal this past week (3-0!!!) amid their mediocre finish to the season- NOTHING is guaranteed at this point. NOTHING.
Sam Williams Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Bruins or Flyers.... We always seem to dispatch of the Flyers in a big way....
Cereal Posted April 7, 2010 Report Posted April 7, 2010 Bruins or Flyers.... We always seem to dispatch of the Flyers in a big way.... Agreed. Flyers would be nice with their suspect goaltending. We've had our way with Boston recently as well. Earlier in the thread someone mentioned not wanting to draw Montreal due to their physicality, which I thought was a good point. Rangers would be a nice draw I think, but that doesn't appear to be much of an option at this point. As an aside, PIT-OTT round one we be an awesome matchup for fan viewing!

spndnchz Posted April 8, 2010 Report Posted April 8, 2010 So, if Buffalo wins tonight we're still in the hunt for 2nd. If NJD wins tonight vs. Florida and beats the Sabres Sunday they win 2nd. Some others: from KK EASTERN CONFERENCE #2 New Jersey Devils would clinch the Atlantic Division... * if they defeat the Florida Panthers AND the Pittsburgh Penguins lose in regulation to the New York Islanders #4 Pittsburgh Penguins would clinch home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs... * if they get at least one point against New York Islanders OR * if the Ottawa Senators lose (in regulation or overtime/shootout) to Tampa Bay #6 Montreal Canadiens would clinch a playoff berth... * if they get at least one point against the Carolina Hurricanes WHO CAN FINISH WHERE? So would you rather have Pens at HOME or NJD AWAY?
