djwilli3 Posted April 3, 2010 Report Posted April 3, 2010 Right now, Buffalo will likely finish second or third. If they finish second, they avoid Ottawa, which is good thing in my opinion as we have not played well against them for more than three years. But the odds are we will play either Montreal, Boston, Rangers or Atlanta. Who do you think provides us with the best matchup in terms of advancing? I'd rather play Atlanta or Montreal. They are not physical teams, and we play very well against both of them. I would prefer to avoid a physical team in the first round, leaving us fresh for Ottawa or Boston if either of those two teams were to beat their higher seeded opponents.
SpikeGelato Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 Since when do we play well against Atlanta?
RuffMuff Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 I think it wont matter, we will get past the first round, but after that I am not sure.

I would much rather face either the Phlyers or Bruins than the Habs. Yes, the Sabres have beaten Moe-ray-all 4 times this year, but the Habs play them VERY tough and I want nothing to do with them. The Habs are a little faster than the Sabres overall and Halak isn't a slouch. The Sabres won't beat them in less than 6, and I could see Moe-ray-all winning in 5 or 6. A 7 game series probably goes to the Sabres. In the playoffs, Atlanta would be lucky to win a game against the Sabres. (Yes, I know how the Sabres typically play against the Threshers. In the playoffs, the Sabres wouldn't be able to overlook them.)
Guest Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 If the Sabres are still playing like they are these past few games, it won't matter who they are playing in the first round. They will get swept away.

They will get swept away. We have to get past the idea that it has only been the "these past few games." This teams needs a reality check and unfortunately it may come in the first round of the playoffs. Hopefully it will kick in well before. Here we are with just a few games and this team has yet to show they can play the intense hockey needed for a playoff run.

When healthy Montreal is a very formidable team and they give up few scoring chances The historical match up would be nice, adding another playoff series to the long history of these two teams together. Who will ever forget Bob Sauve's twin shut outs in 1983?

In the immortal words of Jim Mora... Second? SECOND?! Don't talk about Second! SECOND?! Are you kidding me?? Second? This team has been outclassed by virtually everyone on the road, and all but the disinterested at home for months now. If not for two "pulling of the goalie" goals against Montreal, the Sabres wouldn't have a goal against them in over 120 minutes now.

From where I sit, there isn't a single team 4-8 that wouldn't be favored over Buffalo. Hockey Night in Canada went so far as to call it "the mad fight for sixth place, in order to get to play Buffalo". Can you say "4-1 and out" in the 1st round?

Every year at this time, they revisit the so called greatest moments in their playoff history, and that one's never in there. You get a little tired of hearing about May Day, Dave Hannan and Derek Plante. Maybe I'll start a thread about the most forgotten greatest moments in franchise playoff history.

Dave Dryden Posted April 4, 2010 Report Posted April 4, 2010 God, what a buzz kill this board is. Team's gonna win its division, and all most people here do is whine. I hope you don't treat your kids the way you treat this team, they'll all grow up to be serial killers.

I hope you don't treat your kids the way you treat this team, they'll all grow up to be serial killers. Well, they're going to win it in spite of a bad coach and GM, according to some. That's bad news for their opinions. There's a little defensiveness there.

I hope you don't treat your kids the way you treat this team, they'll all grow up to be serial killers. In the past two months, the Sabres have had 4 quality wins. That's right, 4. Boston, Philly (OT), Montreal (SO), and San Jose. Every other game was either a win against a team out of the playoffs or a loss. There's is plenty to be concerned about.

I hope you don't treat your kids the way you treat this team, they'll all grow up to be serial killers. 80% of this team were here the last two years of NOT making the playoffs. These guys knew deep down that they were going to be in the playoffs this year. And, methinks that they also knew and know that one round isn't goung to wipe away the angst that it caused. They know they have a golden opportunity to win it all. GO BUFFALO SABRES!!!
Canadian Sabre Posted April 5, 2010 Report Posted April 5, 2010 I would not want to face Halak right now, that's for sure. Personally, I don't think Montreal will be much of a threat in the playoffs. I think they have the ability to cause some team problems in the first round, but after that I think they'll wear down. However, I think they'd wear down whoever the opposition may be in the process. I think the same thing goes for Boston with Rask in net, we haven't particularly played well against him either. I think you would have to go with the Flyers. Emery, Leighton, Boucher, Backlund.. am I missing anybody? Kaleta over Carcillo any day of the week, and a debatable "healthy" Jeff Carter.

You have to understand that it gets old when the posters with lots of time on their hands are always from the half empty school (except Sabres Republic who thinks the glass is totally full no matter what.) It would be nice to see a bit of enjoyment on what the team has done right, instead of the constant focus on "the concerns."

There's a little defensiveness there. Not to mention our horrific players. But you are correct in your observation, Mr. Eleven. It is me who is foolish to expect anything else.

It would be nice to see a bit of enjoyment on what the team has done right, instead of the constant focus on "the concerns." It's not just a lot of cranky shut-ins. HSBC Arena is one of the quietest buildings in the league, and there's been more booing this season than any in recent memory. Why the disconnect with your rosy view of how wonderful everyone should feel?

My God, the team is on the verge of winning the division and still in a fight for second in the conference. If you didn't watch the season and just came on this board now, you'd think the team is going to miss the playoffs for a third straight year. I'm too busy at work to look it up now (just wanted a quick break) but I heard during either the Leaf or Canadians game that the Sabres are in the top 5 for goals for and goals against in the conference? Can anyone verify this?

In the past 2 months, what exactly have they done right, beat Tampa? I was happy about that but it didn't give me hope for the playoffs. Did they figure out the PP? Did they figure out Ottawa? Did they figure out how to get up for a big game? I am very excited we are in the playoffs and I am thrilled we are in 1st place, but it sure is an ugly 1st place.
