As for Vanek, word in Portland after the game is Gerbe has been told to be prepared to travel to meet the team for the next game. No confirmation as of yet and no word on the length of time for the injury on Vanek. GOOD LUCK GERBSTER, GIVE EM ######. WELCOME TO THE NHL FULLTIME (hopefully) TYLER ENNIS, DO US PROUD.
inkman Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 If this is true the sabres just got a whole bunch smaller. Not a trend I enjoy seeing.

But if true, I wish him luck. And I agree, it may not be what we need, but if Vanek is injured even for a week or 2 we need a body. Gerbe is as good as any other I guess. As for Ennis, come on, What did you think? Not bad, he needs some grooming, but I thought he looked like an NHLer out there.

They more than likely have the division locked up, so they might as well get some people some minutes. Other players may be a better option in terms of winning, but they need to see what they have in Gerbe. I have no problem with it if he gets the callup. As for Ennis, yeah, he's very good with the puck. I wasn't so crazy about him off the puck though. That kind of thing takes some time, but right now he looks promising.

Once the division actually is locked up, I have no problem with this. 2d place (conference) means no more to me than 3d does, so fine. But I'd like to see the division actually locked up first.
bunomatic Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Ennis fits with the offensive flair he brings despite his lack of size but I'd rather see Mancari back up rather than Gerbe especially with Kaleta out.The last thing we need is two mighty mights on the team. And although Roy more than pulls his weight he comes in a little undersized as well.We need some size and grit to compete with the real contenders.I think Mancari can bring that.
gregkash Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 why would they call up gerbe when Mancari played so well for us?

But I'd like to see the division actually locked up first. If the Sabres take just 4 points the rest of the way (8 games left), Ottawa has to go at least 4-1-1 to take the division. It would take one monumental collapse at this point.

thesportsbuff Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 why would they call up gerbe when Mancari played so well for us? that's what I wonder as well.. just two or three weeks ago Mancari was gellin' nicely with Vanek and Roy and playing very well.
eball Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Maybe they can put out a "small line" to confound opponents; Ennis-Gerbe-Roy. It would look even funnier with the Myers-Tallinder D pair.

It would be nice to have the home ice in a potential 2nd round matchup vs. Pitt or NJ, though, you gotta admit. 5 wins in the last nine games lock up the division (if Ottawa runs the table).
BuffalOhio Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 I was REALLY impressed with jump, speed, and skill that Ennis brought. He's really good with the puck, and very creative. The Sabres don't really have anyone else like him. Connolly has the stick handling, but not the speed. I think he needs to stay. I also think Kennedy looked very good last night back with Roy/Vanek. I'd rather see Mancari than Gerbe for the reasons others have mentioned here.
rbochan Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Slap #48 on him and I'd have thought I was watching a game from 2006.

Heck at least Gerbe plays bigger than Stafford and I like Mancari's size grit in front of the net and on ice vision.... Whe is that deadline when the Sabres can add players to their roster for the playoffs?
Stoner Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Lindy's appraisal of Ennis' game was, of course, lukewarm at best. It's apparent to me that Lindy is not relishing the idea of having to coach another offensively gifted player. Where DO they keep coming from? Bastards.

It's apparent to me that Lindy is not relishing the idea of having to coach another offensively gifted player. Where DO they keep coming from? Bastards. But his statement was in response to a question about whether he'd use one of his permanent roster call-ups for the guy. Of course it was reserved. When was Vanek injured? Must've been getting a beer when that happened? Yeah, I'm not finding anything on this.

This is all i could find as well "Thomas Vanek left the game in the final period with a lower body injury and did not return to the game."

Funny, I was going to start a "Tyler Ennis must stay" thread. ;-). I texted someone last night, using Joe Biden adjectives, basically asking "how can we send the best #$*&% player on the ice back to Portland?". I will say that, just like hardly any of you agreed with me regarding what I'd do to get Chris Drury back on this team, early in the year I was saying I would keep Ennis, Gerbe, AND Mancari on this team and look to trade any forwards on the top 2 lines where I could get return in order to make room for them. None of you will probably agree again. But I am more convinced than ever in hindsight that this was likely the right approach for this team. For right now, I would have all three of those players on the squad as well... given there are obviously spots for them. If they don't call the others up, it has to be about $ or "options".
apushms Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 I agree wholeheartedly ... with a condition, he has what is remaining of the season to prove he belongs. The Sabres have enough grinders (Ellis Mair, Grier, etc.) and enough players that have the ability but tend to disappear when the team desperately needs a goal (i.e. Stafford you listening), what Ennis gives you is pure speed and a scoring touch. He has looked good both times here, so let's see what an extended time up looks like. Maybe a fresh spark will get others going at the right time. If not ... send him back down until next September. Gerbe ... I am not holding my breathe.
Stoner Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 But his statement was in response to a question about whether he'd use one of his permanent roster call-ups for the guy. Of course it was reserved. Lindy touched on the call-up issue at the beginning and end of his answer -- "we'll evaluate it" -- but in between was a pretty unenthusiastic assessment of a performance that had many, many fans lactating with delight.
