Xray Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 Considering what MIller has in front of him this is the best no-Hasek season a goalie ever for this franchise. Even better than the Barrasso rookie year. I know some fans are prone to wanting to create a heroic saga for Miller, but he has a good defense in front of him and a team playing a defensive system. Maybe you believe that he is standing on his head in front of a team constantly breaking down. That's not the case.
Xray Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 I don't care. He's a gray cloud. Until he goes there will be no sunshine. He's a gray cloud? LOL I almost hesitate to ask.
static70 Posted March 27, 2010 Author Report Posted March 27, 2010 He's a gray cloud? LOL I almost hesitate to ask. Actually, Connolly is a decent line 2 center, Pomminstein is a decen line 2 Right Wing. Whats missing? How about an entire Scoring Line 1 and a Left Wing for Connolly and Pomminstein. I would suggest Frolov to fill that role. But even if that were to happen, you still need a LW, C, RW for line 1 cause its very clear Vanek, Roy, Stafford aren't it. We can keep on debating this issue, but at the end of the day there is no real debate here. No Stanley Cup Banners = This assessment is correct.
SwampD Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 He's a gray cloud? LOL I almost hesitate to ask. I have nothing to base this on. I don't know how he is in the locker room or what kind of person he is. He could be a great guy and team mate. But I just don't get that impression. When I see him I just get the feeling that he is an energy sucking swirling vortex of negativity. How's that for some good hockey analysis?
Xray Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 I don't care. He's a gray cloud. Until he goes there will be no sunshine. I wasn't. But since you brought up how much he gets paid while talking about awards I thought you might be. There are 30 starting goalies in the NHL miller is one of them. Up until this season he has never even been close a serious consideration for a vezina. With the salary he is paid and all the heavy promotion behind Miller, we should expect to see something, for crying out load. This season he has rising up to the ranks of the Lundquists Vokouns and others. In other words he caught up to where they were. So now based on this one season you want to view him as the next Hasek, or talk about him like some kind of martyr playing in front of a no defense team? Lightning must be striking 3 times in the NHL this season Miller .929 Vokoun .928 Rask .927 Don't bother I already know what the drama is...those two goals have great impenetrable defense while Ryan Miller is standing on his head with the worst defense ever assembled. Get a grip already.

So you already realize you have nothing to support the drama but cannot resist the compulsion to be another of the many Dr Phil's on Sabres forums. You see "energy sucking swirling vortex of negativity". I see fans with soap opera personalities that have favorite players like kids have favorites of the Brady Bunch. They have a bag full of excuses for their favorites, like claiming that what they bring to the team is leadership not so much with what happens on the ice but in the locker room, one the most asinine things I hear and read. And whoever they dislike is a prima donna or a cancer.

People who believe that pro athletes making millions win and lose off speeches in the locker room are off somewhere in fairy tale land. They think because they played amateur hockey they can speak for the mindset of pros. I played hockey and this stuff is nothing more than a load of dog sh*t. You must be watching too many Bad News Bears movies or something. With all these great 'locker room leaders' the Sabres have in Gooser the hero, Grier the great and Rivet the captain, the Sabres should be absolutely charged up flying around like bats out of ######. What you do is construct fairy tales then pick and choose who your heroes are in the fairy tale. YOU have NO CLUE what goes on in the locker room. You've never been in the Sabre locker room, get that through your head.
Figster Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 Connolly, Kaleta out, maybe long term. Ennis in. http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/2010/03/connolly-kaleta-injured-ennis-called-up.html Damn :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:

Do you actually read what others write or are you just waiting for your next rant. I'm not talking about a "win one for the Gipper" speech. I'm talking about a group of people working together (something you probably know very little about), almost every day for ten months of the year for a common goal. Personalities matter. If they didn't then why do some players make the others around them better, even if they are not on the same line. Timmy doesn't do that because he's a gray cloud. And do me a favor, stop telling me what I and the rest of us think about our team. First of all, you're not me. You don't know how I think. Second, I pay my money, I buy my tickets, I'll feel any darn way I want to about them. And third, it's just annoying.
Two or less Posted March 27, 2010 Report Posted March 27, 2010 I'm glad Ennis is getting a shot before the playoffs. That being said, two forwards get hurt, one gets called up. Oh goody, the old lets dress our spare defenseman as a forward routine. God forbid they also call up Mancari. Even better, why not call up McCormick or Cowan to replace the toughness/hitting of Kaleta. The reason, from Paul Hamilton- If you're wondering about why only one forward got called up and they'll use seven defensemen here's the rules on emergency recalls. "The NHL permits each team to carry up to 23 players on its active roster, subject to the constraints of the salary cap. However, it also requires a minimum of 2 goaltenders, 6 defenseman and 12 forwards on its active roster at all times. A player is not considered on the active roster if they have been placed on the Injured Reserve List or are suspended by the NHL." My guess is Raffi Torres and Kaleta are on IR. With Connolly day to day they didn't want to IR him and keep him out at least a week. Kaleta could be more of a long term thing. If you read the rule, it only opens up one spot on the roster for emergency recall. If the team falls below any of these minimum categories, they are permitted to recall a player without subjection to waivers in order to meet the NHL minimum roster requirements. However, the player must be returned to the affiliate when the player he is replacing returns from their inactive status. (Note: This is why teams have been forced to play with less than the minimum required players last season. Teams had a number of players who were hurt but were not on the Injured Reserve and the team did not have cap space to recall additional players to fill their lineup. Had the team placed players on the IR, they could have used the Emergency Recall to call up enough players to fill out the minimum lineup (again subject to the cap), but then they wouldn't have been allowed to use the players until they completed the minimum period on the IR.) Teams also gets four recalls after the trading deadline. http://www.wgr550.com/Connolly-and-Kaleta-out--Ennis-called-up/6671299

So we started out with that stale locker room fairy tale we're heard so many fans parrot and now it's turned into Timmy doesn't work well with others. So how is it that he leads the team in assists? As far as telling people what to think, I don't , I comment on the mental slop but I don't tell people what to think. When I expose the slop for what it is, then we see these outbursts.

Eleven Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Until Connolly goes, the Sabres go nowhere. I wish that more people will understand this.
Stoner Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Tim Connolly. Sabres leading scorer, by far. Teammates cheered when he was re-signed last trade deadline day. Should win the Masterton Trophy. Bum.

Eleven Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Yes. You heard me right. The Masterton Trophy still is for perseverance in hockey, right? Not for drinking until 4am? Because if it's the latter, you're right on.

Sounds like you closed a lot of bars with TC. Tim has overcome as much, if not more, than Pat LaFontaine did -- and Patty won the Masterton.
tom webster Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 The reason, from Paul Hamilton- http://www.wgr550.com/Connolly-and-Kaleta-out--Ennis-called-up/6671299 Isn't this another example of Paul being wrong. There are no roster limits after the trade deadline. He is right in that the salary cap is a constraint and there are only so many emergency recall moves but I am almost sure that the 23 man roster doesn't apply.
Chemich Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Rivet the captain Too bad he's not that great of a captain, though. I mean he's good for now, but we definitely need an upgrade.
nfreeman Posted March 28, 2010 Report Posted March 28, 2010 Maybe this is Connolly's Wally Pip moment. Ennis comes in for a few games and wows the fans and coaching staff and everyone realizes that they no longer need a unmotivated, injury prone, over paid prima-dona in Connolly. All fans should be popping the champagne open. Oh, for God's sake. He's the team's leading scorer and has missed a total of ONE game this year, and you break this out? He is what he is: a very talented player who isn't aggressive or determined enough to be a Datsyuk or a Zetterberg. He's also not paid like those guys. Bottom line is that he's a great #2 center when he stays healthy. It's not his fault the team doesn't have a #1. I feel bad for Kaleta. Is he going to be able to stay healthy enough to have any kind of NHL career? I've felt this for a while. Last year, 51 games played. This year, 54. Between his high-impact playing style and the target on his back for cheap shots (and his lack of the self-preservation radar that Avery and Neil have), it's hard to see him ever playing 70+ games in a season. In the words of Lindy Ruff this is why the Sabres won't even challenge for the Stanley Cup this year, "There's plays inside the game that you won't win unless we're tougher on those plays. The [Derek] Roys, the Connollys, the [Thomas] Vaneks, those guys have got to be tougher on the puck." Let's face it the core of the team are marshmallows. Playoffs are dominated by tougher teams who are willing to work the hardest and happen to also have quality talent. The Sabres are short on toughness and talent. The team is trying to rely on their most talented player (Miller) to carry them. It wasn't enough with Dominic Hasek and it won't be with Miller. It's not all about getting bigger, but getting more determined. All things being equal however, bigger is an advantage. Ennis might be small, but I hope he has more heart than the trio of Connolly,Roy, and Vanek. +1, although I think Miller and Myers are bigger parts of the core than the 3 stay-puff forwards. The Sabres go as Connolly and/or Roy go. They need those 2 to win, but Miller and Myers are more important. They could survive the loss of either TC or Roy, but not Miller or Myers. You are sucking and swirling your tongue around the tip of my vortex of negativity. Compared to you, I'm Leo Buscaglia. I almost seem... redundant. But, carry on. Your view is refreshing. I don't seem so lonely anymore. You complete me. I feel dirty having laughed at this, let alone quoting it. What's wrong with me?
