inkman Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Undetected? That must be one small flash drive. Or one large USB port...
Figster Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Update. I put the thesis on a flash drive. This thing is all over the computer. I'm working on a different one now. Turns out my room mate downloaded what she thought was a windows security update, looked real, was fake. Installed a "security guard" program, took over the hosts file and still redirects me to google netherlands and other sites. I have virus doctor and the kind of trojans I don't like everywhere. :censored: I won't even use windows security updates anymore, lost my hard drive twice already because of it. Microsoft is having security issues with Windows update in my opinion although they won't admit to it or do anything about the problem. XBox 360, microsoft used the wrong thermal paste on the GPU and didn't fasten it down properly yet when it malfunctions they expect you to pay to have it fixed. I spend almost $400 on an Xbox/games for my nephew, 14 months later it malfunctions and they want $140 plus shipping to fix the problem so I had to fix their screw ups myself. So I wouldn't blame your friend, blame microsoft :wallbash:
wjag Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 It's this: Yeah that was it. Try Malwarebytes in Safemode. Move the icon to the left most column. It makes it easier to find. Also run it once in normal mode to see what the buttons are in case your screen resolution in safe mode becomes an issue. If I remember correctly, it's smart enough to see you trying to download Malwarebytes, so use Firefox to do initial download if you don't already have it.
rbochan Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 Nuke it from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
SwampD Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 All I got out of this thread was, "The doctor says if you don't like trojans you'll get a virus."

A car forum I frequent was attacked by this, causing some members to also get it. Not sure how but my workplace was also affected by the same thing (coincidence, I swear!) and they also installed Malwarebytes. It's troublesome, but works.
korab rules Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 Grab yourself a copy of Avast Antivirus and Malwarebytes. Both are free and superb. Avast will require free registration in 30 days. You may need to install them in safe mode. In the case of Malwarebytes, you may actually need to rename it, as some malware will actually stop you from installing it if it catches the filename in memory. Scan the bejezus out of the machine. Also, avoid the Norton and McAffee garbage. I consider them malware. +1 on malwarebytes. Free and AWESOME!
Figster Posted March 23, 2010 Report Posted March 23, 2010 If I remember correctly Avast was the other protection Dean recommended, Avira and Avast both have a free version, between the two Avira runs smoother and faster,or at least in my opinion it does, seems like Dean also made the same comment.
nobody Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 My pocket protector feels funny. Is this real life? I think it's second life.
shrader Posted March 24, 2010 Report Posted March 24, 2010 My computer has an infection of some sort now too. Inky is going to be so jealous.
