Mancari = Torres?

Mancari is soft. That's always been his problem. He's a elite player in the AHL because of his hard shot and defensive breakdowns, plus he's older then a lot of his opponents, but, in the NHL, he needs to use his size, he needs to fight for the puck in the corners, he needs to get into the right spots, which has always been a problem for him and why he'll never make it in the NHL.

Age only applies in the AHL with regards to experience I agree. But when you look at his call ups, none have been for any significant length of time. If he continues to contribute he stays. I liked what I saw last night, and I also agree lets wait for a month or so to determine a more knowledgable analysis of this, but to be quite honest, he is already doing better than Stafford.

My opinion, no matter what happens, let Mancari finish out the season and ride the playoffs to garner the reasonable assessment we all seek on this, Stafford has had 3 seasons, he hasn't impressed me atleast, at all.

I would also move Kennedy up to 2nd line LW. No reason to keep the kid suffering at center on line 3. He just does not look comfortable there. Not to mention, playing with Connolly would do this kid a world of good confidence wise.

I've heard this said about him, but I simply haven't seen enough of him with the Sabres to evaluate. Have you watched him in Portland?

According to a quick google search (that actually directed me to the AHL website), the average age in teh AHL is 24. Mancari is 24. Age really isn't that much of a factor when talking about why he does so well at that level. It is almost completely about the talent level.

It looks like Stafford will be out another 3-4 games, Goose for 2-3. Mancari will get a look, and we'll see. Last night was good game for him but the first one's it seemed he forgot his stick.

As for Kennedy, he's close to getting the "What's with Kennedy" thread. No goals in ten games and a -9 over those games. Little man has got to score or he's gone.

Leave Hecht with Grier, leave Mair with Kaleta, leave Mancari with Vanek. The rest can be moved around.

Though I'm obviously not watching him in Portland, I try to keep tabs on the players down there, and I've never heard that he's soft. Most often I hear his size and toughness praised. The knock I've heard most often is that he's a late bloomer - that he takes awhile to adjust, which is why he's still down in the minors. But it's kinda hard to ignore his stats the past couple years - he's ready, and if the 'late bloomer' tag is true, all the more reason to keep him up here, so that he can start adjusting sooner rather than later.

A brief encapsulation of his progression (though it doesn't cover the past two years):

Vanek-Roy-Mancari are finding chemistry, Mancari stays up, this line is working and Mancari positions himself well. Stafford is out.

Kennedy-Connolly-Pomminstein needs to happen. Hecht is inconsistent and Kennedy has a much grittier game with him, he has a tight turn radius and isn't afraid to go into the corners. He has puck control ability and his original position was LW, he doesn't look comfortable at Center.

Torres-?-Stafford. Missing element here is a center. Mair? Who knows, but Ennis isn't coming up and this team is 1 short on talented centers, hence Kennedy at center.

Hecht-Goose-Kaleta. Hecht isn't the first choice for a line like this, but LW on this team offers Ellis as the other choice. I'll take Hecht given his ability to contribute lately.

Grier and Mair sitting on the outside looking in. But Grier is a great defensive forward, so who really would be on the outside looking in? Would it be Ellis and Mair?

What about Torres with Pommer and Connolly add some grit to that line

Let Greir, hecht play with kennedy/goose at center decent defensive line

Put Mair with Goose/kennedy/ellis and Kaleta to raise havoc.

The other thing worth watching with Mancari is that he is at 3 games played now. 7 more and he would have to clear waivers to be sent back to Portland. If he hits that point, it might be doubtful that someone would claim him, but I doubt the team would take that risk, instead keeping him around the rest of the way.

If I had to guess, unless Mancari is lights out in the majority of games until Stafford is ready to go, he will go back down at that time.

Word.

But maybe a reason to trade Stafford in the of season and his twitter sucks.

I agree with Lethbridge Broncos about Torres. He works very hard, hits and more importantly, will be more and more noticeable as the games get tougher and into playoffs.

I thought Mancari looked sluggish and unsure for the most part. Sorry, reminds me of last seasons #12. I wonder how close Ennis is to takin a crack at the NHL...small I know, but I think he plays with some hustle and creativity. But, I may be wrong, haven't seen him enough.

I hope Mancari keeps scoring, good for him. But, as for Torres, I was quite pleased with picking him up at deadline day. The one area the Sabres sorely lack in is the will-to-win factor. Ellis, Mair, Miller, Montador are the kind of guys that have it, actually, I even throw Kennedy into that...torres has that, and a bit of a scoring touch to go with it.

I'll say this too, is it just me, or does Pominville look a lot better? I don't know about production, but I've seen him work harder and fight harder for loose pucks this year moreso than any other

Probably correct. I don't know, Stafford hasn't shown me anything special. I mean, Mancari played both games very well. He may not have been on the score sheet in the Rangers game, but I liked his back checking and for me anyways, give the guy a few games to find his game. Dallas has a weak defense, but Buffalo normally struggles offensively no matter who they are playing. The Vanek-Roy-Mancari line looked really good, I hope they can build off of it.

I prefer Kennedy with Connolly and Pommers. Kennedy's natural position is LW and he struggles at center. Does not look comfortable at all. Plus, he has a real tight turn radius and good puck control down low, better hands than Torres if you ask me, just needs some one to feed the puck to. Playing him with Grier has not done him justice for a majority of the season offensively, but I bet he learned volumes on the defensive forward side.

As for Torres, stick this guy on LW with Goose and Kaleta. I would love to see a line like that out there. OPPONENTS BEWARE

Isn't that just Lindy Ruff?

Ellis Gaustad Pommer worked surprisingly well for a bit last year.

Vanek Kennedy Grier worked surprisingly well for a bit this year.
