grittiness Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Quite simply, the players on this team, aside from Miller and Myers, are average. The fact of the matter is that our top 6 forwards would be lucky to crack the 2nd line, let alone the 1st line on a top tier team. I.E Washington, Pittsburgh, Chicago, San Jose, etc. The top 6 players aren't good enough!! Vanek, Roy, and Pominville had career years during the Presidents Trophy run, but since some of those players from that team aren't here anymore, they are just getting exposed year after year. They are even not worthy of having a "C" sewn onto their sweater when the time called for it. They simply voted for the old washed up d-man to take that honor. I seem to think that when this team gets bumped from in the 1st round, some of these so-called "untouchables" may not be on this team come next season. Cheers!
shrader Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Wait, I'm confused. Which year did Pominville and Roy have career years?
carpandean Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Wait, I'm confused. Which year did Pominville and Roy have career years? Well, 2006-07 was a career year for both of them ... to that point. They, of course, eclipsed those numbers the next year, but who's counting?
Ohiofan Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 *sigh* me too. I'm tired of all this negativity. I just want to enjoy the game for the game's sake...I am getting DEPRESSED reading all the threads on this board. I love this place but I just can't take it anymore. *sigh*

I love this place but I just can't take it anymore. *sigh* It's kinda hard to enjoy the game when it's not being played nearly as well as we know it could be. I've been enjoying non-Sabres games for the pure fact that these teams have players trying to win. My sigh was more or less a feeling of "aren't we talking about this in about 7 different threads".
SwampD Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 It's just catching up to you now? This place has been unbearable for weeks now. Just about as long as the Sabres have been unbearable to watch.

bunomatic Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 The thing that ticks me off is at draft time you always hear Darcy say that a players character is as important as his skill level and when given the choice of drafting players of an equal skill level they will always go with the character guy.It would seem to me they've been getting it wrong for quite some time now because there does'nt seem to be much character in that room.Drafting in the middle of the pack year after year does'nt help either because as we've seen with this team all that gets you is mediocrity.Middle of the pack picks gets you middle of the pack results,or worse.

Detroit begs to differ. You don't need to draft in the top 5, as long as you draft the right players.
bunomatic Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Thats why I said they have been getting it wrong for quite some time now.Obviously detroits has'nt.either Buffalos formula for drafting or their system for picking the right player is broken.

Are you sure you're not thinking the Bills here? I've never seen any comment like that a few of the players picked seem to directly contradict that.
bunomatic Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 I don't follow the bills,Darcy made those comments a couple draft years ago so I suppose those players have yet to come through the system. What I do know is that there does'nt seem to be any character in the room now.Maybe these players just are'nt as skilled as management seems to think.I just don't see the players showing that they're willing to go through a wall for each other to win at all costs and that would seem to indicate a lack of character.

No argument there. And it's further enhanced by signing those same draft picks to outrageous contracts 5 years later.
