BeeWhy5 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 If Miller could be Captain, a few reasons why I think he should be.... I don't think I'm the only one that thinks that it is time for the C to change hands. Who knows how Rivet leads behind closed doors, but he looks terrible on the ice. Miller turns in a great performance night in and night out, and he's not afraid to say what is on his mind. Like his quote after last nights stinker.. "If we're too thick-headed to let that sink in, we deserve what we're getting. I'm going to make sure the attitude around here is going to be right. We need to strive to get better, we need to strive to be winners. We can't just hope to get by." I've seen multiple threads dealing with the What should we do if we don't make the playoffs thread and this should be on the top of the list. He's our best, most visible player. He leads with his words, but sets an example on the ice as well. I guess what else makes it easy is that I don't see one other player on the Sabres right now that is capable of being a leader on the ice and that speaks volumes coming down the stretch. Hope they pick it up!
spndnchz Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 No doubt Miller is a leader on this team, but logistically goalie aren't Captain with a "C".
BeeWhy5 Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 I think it is just a huge issue with this team, no leaders. Night in and night out, we don't have that one person that steps up and takes control like a certain player now playing for the NYR once did.
carpandean Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 The league made a rule against goalies being on-ice Captains. One of the Alternates (Assistant Captains?) has to serve as the on-ice Captain. I have no problem with calling Miller the Captain and putting a "C" on his helmet, but it's purely symbolic. If that makes the team suddenly listen to him (which I doubt), then fine, do it. I suppose, at the least, it would let Lindy bench Rivet when needed.
NNYSABRESMAN Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Miller is becoming bolder at speaking his mind about the teams play but I don't know that he has the temperment to be captain. What those spineless piles oh s#*t that we call the core need is a captain to get in their faces and maybe put them not so gently up against the lockers and call them out in front of the rest of the team. Or maybe thats just to old school.
bunomatic Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Luongo has the letter in Vancouver but I'm not convinced that works.miller is a leader but I'd prefer there was someone on the ice and bench that could get on these girls backs and hound them about their lack of effort.Raffe Torres would be good captain material but he'll jet in the offseason for a team thats serious about winning a cup.
Stoner Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Didn't Miller yap like this early last season, before saying he needed to focus on playing goaltender instead? His voice clearly doesn't carry much weight.
rbochan Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Just notice who the press ALWAYS go to after games... not the guy with the C already on his jersey.
nobody Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Just notice who the press ALWAYS go to after games... not the guy with the C already on his jersey. I really can't remember the last time I heard an interview with or saw a comment from Rivet.
VansTheMans Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 I really can't remember the last time I heard an interview with or saw a comment from Rivet. He prolly ducks outta there pretty quickly after the game. :bag:
darksabre Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 sort of related http://www.theonion.com/content/infograph/ryan_miller
rickshaw Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Miller doesn't need the captaincy. But neither does Rivet. I believe these are the guys that should have the "C" Captain - well, I just looked at the roster and man, it's difficult to pick one. Ok, I'll try this. Captain should be Mike Grier. Assistants should be Myers and Gaustad. Man, that was a really difficult thing to do. The problem is this team doesn't have a bonafide "leader" that skates. Shake it up will ya Darcy.
