FearTheReaper Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 I dont know much about Torres, but i respect what he can potentially bring to this team. I'm very fearful that he walks in the summer.
inkman Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Mair and Ellis aren't garbage, for what they are, 4th liners, they are pretty decent. They will never be top 6 players, but they will play tough and hard for you every night. Its impossible to have an entire team of 1st liners. Fourth liners have no trade value. I wouldn't want a team of just sissified scorers. My name isn't Tom Smith.
inkman Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 I'm very fearful that he walks in the summer. Some GM will open up the vault and give him a completely underserved contract this summer. You won't have any fears when a 20 goal scorer is making $4 mill a year.
spndnchz Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 This mornings practice has it set up like this: Vanek-Connolly-Stafford Torres- Roy - Pominville Grier-Kennedy-Hecht Mair-Ellis-Kaleta FWIW, I hope Torres' locker is next to Roy and he just keeps slapping him until Roy fights back.

Fine, but I'd like to see Ennis, Gerbe and Mancari brought up and Pommer, TC and Stafford healthy-scratched.

Two or less Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 Fine, but I'd like to see Ennis, Gerbe and Mancari brought up and Pommer, TC and Stafford healthy-scratched. Mancari is a waste. Gerbe has been injured for a while and is still out. Ennis got a concussion.... http://www.pressherald.com/sports/pirates-facing-limited-options_2010-03-03.html
inkman Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Update on Torres: Dumb jock type, I love it!!! :D
inkman Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Mancari is a waste. Gerbe has been injured for a while and is still out. Ennis got a concussion.... Going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing he was being a little tongue in cheek. Speaking of which, where's chz?

PotentPowerPlay22 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 We're going to have to go ahead and disagree on the rental thing, but I have to comment on the bolded. You do realize that they traded Campbell, right? He should not be mentioned along with the other two. And since you're advocating trading our UFAs, would you have moved Drury and/or Briere that season? Yes, I know Campbell was traded. Do you think the Sabres got the better of that deal? I don't think so. Do you think the Sabres benefitted from letting Briere and Drury go for free? I don't think so. They could have signed them the previous summer if they hadn't mismanged the whole situation. They waited until the last minute and it was too late. They completely bungled it! I guess I'm going to have to disagree with you that these were wise moves. The Sabres dropped off considerably after these moves and you still want to defend them? I don't. Also, I think it is fair to include anyone in the discussion to illustrate the ineffective handling of UFA's and rental players and draft picks. Just because Campbell was traded and the others left as UFA's doesn't excuse the point that they were all bad deals IMO. Do you want to defend the acquisition of rental players Zubrus and Moore? I don't. You think Regier did a good job? Please examine all the Sabres 1st round draft picks under Regier's management. This is not a pretty examination for the vast majority of picks. Maybe that would explain why he turned down 4 1st round draft picks from Edmonton for Vanek. I would have taken the picks in a heartbeat. The money he saved on Vanek's contract could have been used to immediately add quality re-inforcements and still have four top picks in the bank! We can disagree, but I stick to my original analysis. Regier has mismanaged UFA's and rental players in the past and I believe he did it again on trade deadline day. (see my original post) After you examine all the evidence (OBJECTIVELY) you may find reason to question Regier's decisions. (Maybe Larry Quinn is pulling the strings) BTW, do you think Pominville is worth $5.3 million per year? I don't think it is even close. Go ahead and disagree, but at least define and defend where you disagree with my points.
shrader Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Yes, I know Campbell was traded. Do you think the Sabres got the better of that deal? I don't think so. Remind me again what San Jose got out of that deal. I'm not going to bother looking up what the Bernier draft picks turned into, but the other part of that deal was the 1st rounder we used to pick Ennis. All San Jose has to show from that deal is an early playoff exit. So yes, that deal so far has worked out in our favor. Do you think the Sabres benefitted from letting Briere and Drury go for free? I don't think so. They could have signed them the previous summer if they hadn't mismanged the whole situation. They waited until the last minute and it was too late. They completely bungled it! You missed the point completely. With the way that season was playing out, would you rather have traded either of these players? The ###### up with the contracts has absolutely nothing to do with that question. I guess I'm going to have to disagree with you that these were wise moves. The Sabres dropped off considerably after these moves and you still want to defend them? I don't. Go back and look for where I said they were smart moves. You'll be searching for a while. I'm going to go ahead and ignore the rest of the post since you're assuming I'm saying something that I never actually said, instead of actually answering my question. It was a very short post. I would've hoped that the point was pretty obvious.
inkman Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 The money he saved on Vanek's contract could have been used to immediately add quality re-inforcements and still have four top picks in the bank! Draft picks aside, the quality reiforcements you speak of, one's like the Rangers and Flyers thought they were getting in Drury and Briere? Teams just can't sign overpaid FA in order to build winners, they need to draft and trade deftly. One can certainly question the drafting in certain years but signing other teams garbage rarely ever works out.
LabattBlue Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Gerbe has been injured for a while and is still out. Gerbe was back in the lineup as of their last game played.
FearTheReaper Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Some GM will open up the vault and give him a completely underserved contract this summer. You won't have any fears when a 20 goal scorer is making $4 mill a year. That is extremly likly to happen, but i would rather sign Torres to a deal in the range of 3 to 4 mil a year than keep Hecht on the third line at a similar salary. I have a good feeling about Raffi. There has been a huge void in the power forward role on this team, and i think he is going to fit the bill quite nicely.
VansTheMans Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Update on Torres: What's in ur CD player right now? Method Man Favorite TV show? Seinfeld :worthy: Hand this man a contract.
FearTheReaper Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 Seinfeld indeed, not sold on the Method Man aspect though. But in rap terms, Meth is the man.
static70 Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 That is extremly likly to happen, but i would rather sign Torres to a deal in the range of 3 to 4 mil a year than keep Hecht on the third line at a similar salary. I have a good feeling about Raffi. There has been a huge void in the power forward role on this team, and i think he is going to fit the bill quite nicely. He did an interview at the start of the season and said its been a dream of his to play in Toronto. Burke did an interview a couple of days prior to the Olympic break and said he wants guys like Torres there. Where do you think Torres signs in the off season?
carpandean Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 All I know is that if they try to get Raffi to join the SGMs, he'll be giving new meaning to the song "Detachable ######".

Burke did an interview a couple of days prior to the Olympic break and said he wants guys like Torres there. Where do you think Torres signs in the off season? Link? It would be tampering if Burke said this, although I can't say I'd be shocked.
darksabre Posted March 5, 2010 Report Posted March 5, 2010 He idolizes Wendel Clark? Dear lord, I second the "hand this man a contract" motion. Even I like Clark, and I HATE the Leafs.
